There are many great tutorials you should check'em out, the ones on the blender homepage doesn't always work with the latest versions so I suggest you to google: learn blender or blender tutorials :)

sound in blender is pretty hard, partially cos it's hard to find the exact position, and the sound also has to sound realistic, as Blender doesn't offer sound editing functions (as far as i know)

no, it doesn't. not even that has sound in space... sound is just a change in pressure caused by the resistance of air and other matter to vibration - there is no such resistance in the vacuum of space. Try it - put anything that makes sound inside a small space that isn't soundproof and suck all the air out - the sound will disappear.

To render it as a video, first you have to choose a video format, for the file. In the render panel, choose avi jpeg. Then go up to render- render animation. Wait for your animation to render, and then play using render- play rendered animation.
