@emoboi86 hi, yes that's it, the pads turn on or off an effect depending on their value. you can use the pads in toggle mode as CC or note on/off depending on what best fits your software. if i'm unclear, its because i just woke up, yet i hope i did answer your question there :p
@Powerslave2493 actually everything is midi right there. keys and buttons send midi notes to the software on different channels. and the knobs send control change signals on a specific channel too. so maybe i didn't get you there but i'm actually triggering everything via the pcr , nothing other than midi comes out from it.
i hope some of my answer is at least helpful / not too confusing. you can message me if you need more, this video is old now, i'm building some new setups but still can reply
you do know it is just a midi controller ... ot the thing creating the sound ... it just controls the sound modulations (e.g. cuttoff) via midi ... the thing making the sound is just a vst on abelton live.
hehe. I've also got a pcr 300 :) n also use FL studio. What I do is to program my drums and patterns n what not, and then make sure that the pads are set as buttons in the control map, and just assign them to the channel 'power' (the green dot) and just lay the patterns out in the playlist, so they just turn on and play wen u press the pads. hav fun :)
hey man can you maybe tell me how to conect A sound to the buttons A1- A8, I dont have a dutch manual en I realy can not get it man, thats the only thing I would like to know so if you please can tell me how to do it youre the king, GREAT sound by the way thanx man
not wanting to offend but>>>>>>>>>>be more original coz we all got somethin special to express.avoid de clique.take a trip whatever.the general idea is good.thanx
a good keyboard or synth to start with is the microkorg.
but if you wanted to do the drums and mix beats etc you would need a computer music production workstation, like ableton live, fl studio or cubase.
you would also need one of those to work a midi controller, and i would say a quite reasonable midi controller would be the korg micro kontrol, or pad kontrol.
well in this vid, i only use samples for the beat, and i found them on the net, but i can't remember where i got them since i just keep them on a CD somewhere in my room. Some are amen breaks and some are my original work or recycled beats
recently purchased PCR-300. it's great for a midi controller but should have bought xiosynth instead. it's a midi controller and standalone synth. sigh...
Hey do you guys know how to make the pads more sensitive in PCR 300/500/800? I have to punch very hard to make it sound good. Whether the velocity is fixed or not these tiny pads are not responding like Axiom and padkontrol pads. Please help if you have some tips. Thanks.
no actually i work with ableton live. it is i think the fastest program to link all your midi controls to your midi plugins or anything you want, giving you the best control over the sound you produce, to this day i haven't found better. But this is for live, i still prefer to produce with fruity loops which can also be used live but it's less attractive...
I think for studio work, Fl remains the best.they both have what is called in FL "automation clip". with AL it's more like a simplified 'Cubase' display when you go in arrangement view. But they've both 'unlimited' control over your midi plugins. They just have different ways of dealing with music.
edirol's PCR 300 (along with the 500 and 800) is a midi controller. it doesn't do anything by itself. so that'll depend on what software you use it with (or other midi hardware)
i'm using live, so i just trigger things (i prepared the clips earlier) and i like to control my effects with the pads and knobs and what i do is assign beat changes and chord changes on the keyboard itself. so if you look carefully i just press a key to go to one of my clips then it plays in loop and i don't have to keep the finger on it... i think i've put the first clip on a C key. does that answer your question?
oh ok, yeah i see what you mean. i'm trying to do stuff like that too with my pcr-500. triggering beats and clips as well as samples. i just got it and i haven't got a sequencer yet, just using sonar le that came with it and also tracktion (the price is right for tracktion;))
meh, i hate that when you write this huge thing and then it gets erased somehow. grr.
anyway, i just said great song, better than yr last. so yr improving :)
i just wondered how you did the chord change there. it seemed like you did it on the fly? or did you just trigger it with a key (or pad)
thx and keep it up. yr vidz are really helpful for beginners who don't know what the hell they're doing lol. ignore dumb comments ppl make and just keep it up ;)
the beat (and everything else) depends on the software you use. so i could give you hints on ableton live since it's the one i use but that's all i can tell you for now :/
hi i was wondering if you could help me, im just getting into d&b productionand wanna buy a keyboard is the one your using a good one to buy? should i get a drum machine to go with it or is everything i need onboard?
Well this keyboard has nothing on board. What i mean by that is that it's just a midi controller : it does nothing by itself. so you'll have to have a 'drum machine' or something using midi to control it with... or like me, a computer!
what do you mean? The pads can be adjusted via the editor given with the pcr. if you meant something else leave me a message i'll be happy to help! :D
I mean how do the pads feel as far the sensitivity or compared to you other trigger style pads (e.g. MPD24, Trigger Finger, PadKontrol). Can you list you hardware required to run this style of keyboard, I assume it's connected via USB, but do you need a special sound card to solve any latency between the controller and CPU?
actually the pads are not pressure sensitive. this is important to note. you have to choose the velocity value when it's ON or OFF when you set it up. So it's completely different from the akai Mpd24 which IS pressure sensitive (but if you talk about "feel" , i'd prefer to have my pcr300 pads than the akai mpd24 ...) .
And yes it's connected via USB. And the soundcard is up to you Because it really depends on the software, the plugins you use, your CPU, RAM, and all. So all i can tell you is i have a M-Audio audiophile 2496 with 1G of RAM, 3Ghz, and my latency is very low. with a lot of things running, i can still be under 10ms.
Thanks for that...I like the look of the PCR-300/500 series because of the all the assignable knobs & sliders, split keyboard, aftertouch, etc. I was looking at the M-Audio Axiom Series...but the buttons were too hard and only had 8 of them...and they don't have the sliders on the Axiom25.
Yeah, I was looking at the M-Audio Audiophile USB and MobilePre USB (cause I have a laptop), just wanting your opinion. Thanks again!! Keep on keepin' on. I dig the sounds you're producing!!
nice one love the simple drum loop of dnb ^^

that's the thing man... if we don't both use the same i'll have trouble telling you...
I use Ableton Live and you don't really need the edirol's manual for that just 2 or 3 tutorials on ableton will do cause it's just sample triggering.
But since i don't know what program you are using i won't be of much more help :(

sourberrymusic 3 years ago
some pads can, some not...
but if you want to play dnb, most of the tunes and things are "monophonic" (1 tone per synth, which a synth can have 2 or more waves ;) )
so don't break your brain trying to search for a chord player pad :P

Do yo play reverse, granning effects in live or are they sequenced and you just launch them when you want?
I'm trying to be more "live", I mean to not to compose all beats : using one basic beat and make it different using effects and my Behringer BCR2000.
Try to find things like Liveslice from Livelab, this one is great!

But the drumloop in the beginning was changing too often, kinda disturbing...
And You should've put some more sounds, like a background or so. And some real nice bass.
Kinda shallow, but I liked it.
