i think when you wear the sparkly dress and big huge wig and makeup it makes you feel like a champion. I love dresses up for feises, but I am a girly girl and could understand if somebody prefered a more natural look. I must admit at times I want to kill my wig. These children are amazing dancers and to reach that level is just amazing. All dancers who get to worlds level or nans are amazing in my eyes
@RebiTitanic my wig reely anoys me wen all of da grips are stikin into ur head and it reely sore and i no its worth it !!!!!the wig complete u as a champ i tink!!!!!!
It is not compulsory for you to wear a wig or glamorous dress- it is purely to your own digression. If you hate the fancy dresses and wigs then don't wear them. Instead of commenting on the outfits and appearances then maybe comment on the fact that these kids are awesome and very talented and skilled dancers who have obviously put a lot of time and effort into become world champions and if they thought they wigs and dresses were horrible they wouldn't wear them.
@xCestTresChiquex Not true. My teacher insisted that I would not place if I did not wear these things because I would not look like I was a serious competitor. She was from Dublin, had placed at Worlds, and had been a previous LOTD dance captain and soloist. You can say it isn't compulsory to wear them, because they of course they will let you compete without the wig and $1000 + dress. Whether they will notice you is another matter. I do agree that all these dancers are amazing, however :)
@jyggyhobyt that's good for your teacher - my teacher is Scottish, also a world champion and played a lead role in Riverdance not that long ago but that has nothing to do with my point :) if you say you must must compete with the wigs incase you are not seen as a "serious dancer" then maybe explain the girl in these videos who has won several chamoionchips without wearing a wig :
@xCestTresChiquex I mentioned my teacher's credentials because she is the one who insisted I wear the wig, fake tan, and super expensive heavy gaudy awkward dress so I would "look the part". Occasionally a wigless dancer does ok, but I personally know people who have lost pts. specifically because their hair wasn't curled. Happily, a new rule has been created that will keep beginners and U11 dancers from wearing the dresses and makeup, because the prohibitive cost has made many people quit.
@jyggyhobyt I undersstand where you are comming from. I just don't think it's fair how much pressure girl's in irish dance are put under to have the really expensive bling dress and giant wig beacuase in my opinion it's the dancing that makes you a champion not the dress or wig :)
@xCestTresChiquex well thats the way the irish dancing world is and if we didnt want 2 do it we wudnt do it!!!we dont just do it 4 the fun u no!!!!!we are well used 2 it by now!!!

Sungold remarked on " . . dreadful curly wigs . . . ". But I ask who designed the girls ghastly costumes? They seem to be a cross between tu-tus and highly decorated birthday cakes. Suggest tu-tus be left to classical ballet and decorated cakes be left to birthday parties.
@Sungold excuse me but the irish dancing world mite be different to your world so dats wat we do!!!!i tink the dresses and wigs are beautiful and we are proud dat we wear a wig!!!i tink the look lovely!!!!
I was there that nite, my figures competition was one of the last of the nite. And the next Day, i was first in the first round of the first competition. I got back to the hotel at 12:00 am or so.

My dance school does not let anyone but champions wear wigs or makeup. They say you may curl your hair if you want but nobody bothers.
