  • I knew the person who ran over the judge:p

  • I wish this video had caught the part where the ladybug ran over a judge! I almost pissed my pants laughing when that happened.

  • @sandstormsux hard work never is....BUT look at the results it produces

  • what is up with marcus always doing cute little meadow shows? that doesn't sound like much fun to me.

  • @911CondieOnTheLoose yea winning sure isn't fun

  • will someone PLEASE put the entire show up?

  • This was called Botanika Right?

  • yes:)

  • I WANTED MORE OF THAT ENGLISH HORN! LOL

  • lol i gotta admit i love the lady bug now just as much as i loved it the first time i saw it, most awesome prop ever

  • @8SunshineOfDoom8

She is about to make her re-appearance one last time...

  • @8SunshineOfDoom8

She is about to make a re-appearance one last time...

  • OMG...They always have the biggest and most creative props...

  • All the solos in this show were preformed very well.

  • This is probably my favorite show from Marcus.

I can't get over the bassoon solos, they are amazing.

Can someone post up the old video of the full show?

  • @LuxAurumque02000 Thank you! I was the soloist on the far left

  • @madclaw2413 You are very welcome. A musician like yourself has all my respect.

  • beautiful solos

  • WOW, the ladybug made me LOL at least 27 times.

  • did their first place finish make u laugh also?

  • ha i go to Marcus and all the band members take musical steroids

  • someone PLEASE put the entire '07 show back up.....if u need to remove some shows...their are PLENTY others to choose from.....everyone needs to see the quality that Marcus produces!

  • Comment removed

  • WHAT? marcus' musical talent IS their strength....do u not hear the near perfect balance, not to mention how well they execute even with difficult runs, triple tonguing, and changing tempos??? Their Hornline is INCREDIBLE

  • Comment removed

  • show me another band that plays more musical as marcus...

  • Comment removed

  • Even if its a commentation section, No one should judge someone's "musical" talent, that is just arrogance on the other end. Especially a band like this. End of story.

  • no please....LET'S go there.....what band are you from??? Are they even on YouTube so that we might get a definite reference to all the garbage you are talking about?

  • Comment removed

  • and ill show you 50 bands that move 40 clicks faster

  • yes, I loved the completely random/orange tenor player this year.

  • have you seen their show from this year? its pretty ridiculous. totally orange tenor player, drums, mallets, plume, everything. blue drum major at one point. and giant stone roman-type things.

  • well, their 1st place finish at BOA-Arlington and State and 2nd(out of 52) at BOA-SA ISN'T ridiculous!

  • ridiculous as in awesome or exceptional

  • gj yesterday in 2nd at boa.

  • I heard Marcus only marches freshman

  • yeah, all of their classes march. They actually have a lot of freshman.

  • they march

    freshman,

    sophmores,

    juniors

    and seniors.

    they pwn

  • They only let Juniors and seniors march, right?

  • nope. everyone does

  • Very nice guys! Im going to Marcus nxt year! Go Marcus! (Ill be in percussion)

  • this band is definitely overrated. yall are good and everything but no offense you do the same show every single year, you just paint the props a different animal.

  • Marcus' hornline AND drumline are both better than Bell's THAT's why TWO different set of judges placed them AHEAD of Bell last year!

  • wait till you see 2008, your gonna crap your pants!

  • nah marcus isnt anything compared to bell

  • haha it was just a coincidence lol

  • mannn, marcus is like the king of kings when it comes to marching, and bands, and marching bands

:] keep up the work, marauders !

    --newman smithh(:

  • how ironic that you would say that considering Bell did a show called King of Kings in 2000 and won everything they went to. Lol, or did you say that on purpose

  • All the people making comments about who should have won and where other bands should have placed need to relax. If you are involved with music for the sake of winning awards and competitions, you are in it for the wrong reasons. A competition should be about more than placement.

How often do you get to play to an audience of thousands of people who all love exactly what you love? To show off your hard work and passion? That's the most important/amazing thing- not rankings.

  • Spoken by someone whose band has never won SA BOA!

  • That's presumptuous considering you have no idea where I went to school. As a point of record, I graduated from Marcus High School, who incidentally did win SA BOA - hence this video. I am extremely proud of my alma mater's achievements, but having been in the program, I was taught that winning is not the goal. Musicianship, camaraderie, and hard work were the things we strove to accomplish. Your attitude cheapens what the kids in this video did and continue to do.

  • Chill, Sproker06, I am talking to the kid from Lafayette High School' Band

  • overrated. Still good though

  • true..of LD Bell

  • i love reading these comments. ha.

all the bands practice just as much as the others, and they suffer close to the same amount. marcus just happened to have the lucky amazing players and the good show this year to catch the judges attention. you need to please the judges to win not the audience. anywho, there will be other chances for other bands to claim the title. just share the joy people. plus its not about winning, its that gut feeling you get when you know you had your best performance (:

  • go mhs

  • this was a great show.

wow, no words can really explain.

    great job in san antonio!

    wooo!

  • This is definitely on the short list of best music performances ever. Great job.

  • awesome!

english horn sounds amazing : )

  • argh i know him he's a freshman...

crazy asian kid. he is one of the most naturally talented musicians i have ever met. that is not to say that he doesn't practice his ASS off. he could pretty much dominate on any woodwind instrument

  • lol...well he's a sophomore....but ya hes pretty beast man. i play with him in youth orchestra. he makes an amazing sound!!

  • good stuff

  • Hands down the best musical performance at SA (for prelims at least...I Bowie almost snuck up in terms of score and I personally believe they did better). I was kind of shady about them winning by so much, but eh...oh well. I do think GN would have been a slugfest between Marcus and Bell though..

  • Is there a better and full length video someone can post? It sounds great but the quality is bad.

  • It would've been quite the battle between L.D. Bell and Marcus in my opinion.

    I personally liked Bell more.

  • Opps haha spelling errors in awesome well yea too bad lol

  • Hey yea im just a band student from north carolina who was looking up LD bell and there awsome show this year and when i found Marcus i now wished that i would have also seen you guys at GN that would have been great. (maybe next year) peace

  • where do you go to school?... either WJ, Clayton, or WC...

  • u guys had an awesome show, we played the day before and got to see u guys perform. funny how ur ladybug hit the field judge

  • ha ha ha ha! at 1:15 it looks like the kid striking a pose in the middle/right has a curving plume. shut up! its funny!

  • I wasn't saying they didnt sound great, but their visual package isn't challenging at all which bodes well for their players to give the maximum focus on the music. The props and the good use of guard work kind of take your mind off of the not so challenging drill sets.

  • are you on crack?!?!?!?!? i doubt you would have been able to have pulled off any of that mad drill!!! how high up were you when you saw the drill? did you not see their mad formations???!?! they were making intricate flowers, dragonflies and butterflies.... psht...... whatev.

  • Yeah I'm pretty sure I could "pull off" their "mad drill". And its nothing I haven't seen before, I write drill for HS and MS. And if you want to talk about intricate you should see some of the Indiana bands which are known for visual intricacy and precision.

  • Heh, we had to perform right after you guys, awsome show, we got to see you guys at Plano East also.

  • please excuse, "iccutemyballs" down there. Please do not think that everyone from Bowie is immature, and I don't think that person realizes that there are several bands that play the same things and that direspecting a band on the internet on a website such as YOUTUBE is completely immature.

  • i'm talking bout ronald regan

  • yalls sound is amazing, i think the ladybug is imature for the quality of music yall are capable of, the flowers were pretty cool tho

  • yea def right there the ladybug is a little too overboard but man although i'm not a big fan of expensive props the flowers were amazing

  • Yeah right.... Marcus has WAY too much talent to be copying music from schools like Bowie...

  • Why? Bowie is good. Marcus is good too. I don't go to Bowie either. Oh and "iccutmyballs" is a douche.

  • You guys need to keep in mind that BOA judges LOVE theatrics. They LOVE to see stuff like that! In fact, the reason why Hildalgo beats my group at BOA and we beat them at State is because BOA loves the PERFORMANCE, while State people want to see if you truly know what you're doing while you're marching. So what if they have a lot of props? Marcus still kicks serious arse musically, technically, AND visually

  • we got to go right after them at UIL this year. That was one tough act to follow.

  • i think Marcus has so many props because there colorgueard is small...they only have about 15 to 20

  • and also i'm not trying to take anything away from marcus there sound is amazing but i think the props take the attention off the music being played its call marching band not marching theatricts just don't abuse your amount of money you have

  • why didn't marcus go to grand nationals??

and by the way i think the props were a little too over board most high schools including mine can't afford those types of props get some scaled down ones no wonder your beating these other bands

  • why didn't marcus go to grand nationals ??

and by the way come on most high schools can't afford those type of props

    i know mine can't

soo i think those type of props are unnecessary

    get some scaled down props

because of course you gonna beat other bands that don't have props or that have scaled down props

  • Just because your high school can't afford the same things that Marcus can, doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed.

You go to BoA to win. The props are definitely getting them some points from the judges, so of course they're going to use them.

  • umm going to boa is not all bout winning

we all know marcua high school is rich but you the props are stilla little too overboard and by the way i'm from louisiana and our schools don't fund the band programs but we work our butts off with no props like that and doo just fine

  • Props don't win it for Marcus...CLEARLY their music should show that, as has the program's development over the past few years. Not to mention props don't earn you music points. A few years ago, no one knew who Marcus was. Within the past two years, Marcus has won both the Texas state championship and the BOA super regional (arguably the most difficult super regional of the 3).

  • sure anybody can have a great concert sound if they are standing STILL for almost HALF of the entire show

  • If that were true, then a lot of bands that do not do challenging drill (there are A LOT) would have great ensemble sounds. You have to give credit where credit is due.

To be quite honest, I had a big problem with Marcus last year because a majority of the technical parts in their show were played by small ensembles, which in my opinion, if you are going to put William Tell Overture on the field, make the whole band do it.

  • indeed

  • andrew1288 ill agree with everything you said EXCEPT for the line "a few years ago, no one knew who Marcus was." dude, anybody who's anybody knew who marcus was...... if not, then look at PASIC year after year after year... marcus high is in the top 3 of percussion schools in the nation and they've been on top for a LOOOONNNNG LOOONNGG time

  • yeah but nobody had really heard of their marching band. I believe in 04 they were like 8th at BOA arlington? They were known just not as successful as they are now.

And speaking of this show. I absolutely hated it. But they played the crap out of it

  • I'm not going to repeat the exact things that everyone one else said, but marcus uses their resoucres effectively and efficiently for everything including props. The props are the exact same props for 3 years now just recycled into something else. The parents are the good people who work their butt off to mold these props and develop them into something new for the audience. They even reuse material. Good job parents. Band good job this year for your hard work and persistence.

  • wow, how fast is that tempo at the beginning? they are just flying!! (/sarcasm) Yes this band is the cleanest visually and musically, but look at the vehicle... it is not as challenging or emotionally engaging as their closest rivals in blue... albeit, the design reaches perfection as far as pleasing judges is concerned.

  • That's just it though PhantomAL... If their staff ever figures out how to make a challenging show for them they might be something great. Until then, they are just another band that has a good sound. No offense to thes kids, they perform the heck out of this show, and I think they deserve something more challenging to really push the ticket.

  • Wow! Fantastic rendition of "Make Our Garden Grow." It gave me goosebumps which is something not every high school marching band can do. Say what you will about the props, but these kids can PLAY.

  • Hahaha. To all you who are complaining: Quit talking about it, and BE about it, next marching season. Show us all you know.

  • You know what, BOA is over. All of of u who keep cursing to TRY to get your point across, calm down. Don't get you panties all in a wad. Perhaps it is YOU who's failing at life.

  • lilaquadude, your ignorant and worthless comment shows how little you know..

Every other band in the country WISHES they could sound like the Marcus Band does, even standing still. They sound phenomenal and everyone could learn something from Marcus.

They are what every band should strive to be.

  • Dude, you know damn well that you wish every band was as good as the L D Bell Blue raider band. We rule, and this year is no exception.

  • wow, these guys sound amazing. You know that the only reason people are saying these things is because you didn't think you got the place you "deserved". I guarantee these guys can out play almost any high school band in the country...

  • Marcus does have a very nice sound. However I will say just about any band could sound like them when they are "parked". Over half the video is them just standing still or kneelng. But fantastic show concept! Bravo!

  • CurlyBoy398 is kinda right.

Although i will say that Marcus does this kinda stuff extremely well.

But my band doesn't do this kinda stuff at all, in any way shape or form, and it hurts us at contest...which is frustrating because our shows are good too.

But bravo Marcus, this is great.

  • marsg22, drummers are overrated! lol but for real they are

  • I was a clarinet player myself. Don't know much about drums. I just thought it was nice the way they used to be featured as the second or third piece of the show. Instead of making the bands put on a "concert"/"theatre" performance on the field, they should go back to actually featuring "marching", which does include the drumline.

  • Marsg22 you rock!

i also play clarinet and I did pit (front ensemble) for marching. I didn't learn percussion until high school.

  • You fail at life, for real you do. Stop bitching about the best drumline, think they are overraated? do better yourself ngr

  • The Marcus Band is truly amazing. I look up to you guys. Keep it up!

How do you keep such an amazing sound outside? Wow.

  • All of the shows were pretty good. But I do think all of the props are a little ridiculous. I wonder how well any of the bands would have done without anything but colorguard flags?

P.S. There was only a one-point difference between ninth and fifth place. The competition was TOUGH this year. I know - we were eighth, and we had one of our best shows of the season! GO HALTOM! =]

  • you just think the props are ridiculous because your directors dont utilize them, plz stop QQing...marcus prolly won because while you are bitching on you tube, they are practicing

  • Hypocritical much? You're bitching about my comment that wasn't even CLOSE to complaining. I never said Marcus wasn't excellent - they worked just as hard as anyone else. Stop getting all offended. It's my own opinion that sometimes props take away from the pure "marching band" essence - that's all. Plus, I posted this when the season ended, thank you. =]

  • Marcus does well because they are good.

Though if one thing is for sure BOA is getting out of hand, Marching Band. Theres a reason Marching is the Adj. and Band is the NOUN.

I understand people like showy stuff but things are going too far and BOA needs some change.

  • your props took away from the marching.

bowie played the same leaonard bernstein as you guys did.

they got 2nd in music in finals.

  • bowie is terribaed though, plz stfu... marcus rapes at music thats why they owned bowie

  • One of THE best arrangements of one of my favorite Bernstein pieces. Bravo!

  • Haha. I like the comment at 2:01 about it not being pretty. Well, THAT's what Bernstein wrote even in the original. Welcome to dissonance.

  • HOLY SNOT!!!!! Radioactive Lady Bug!!!! RUN!!!!

  • Oh man that made me laugh really hard...

  • My cousin is in the band!

  • I just wish that they would just go back to featuring the drumline. Enough with all of the theatrics. I thought this was supposed to be "Marching Band" not "Broadway". And yes, I also agree that Churchill should have ranked higher, certainly higher than Woodlands.

  • Unfortunately Churchill is basics compaired to woodlands

  • Basics? Basics what? They DID only place 1 rank higher than Churchill. So I guess Woodlands is INTERMEDIATE?

  • well dont get me wrong your guyses show was amazing but at the same time most of your sets seemed to be left foot step offs and eight even counts

  • gg band fucks, plz stfu and go practice more

  • crap i messed up in that.

  • SEIZE THE LADYBUGGG!!!!

  • Run over more field judges ladybug!

  • WOW

  • i loved westfields show they did not deserve 9th thats my opinion though

  • I have a question, why is Marcus not going to Indy? If someone could please message me about this, it would be greatly appreciated.

  • we're not going to nationals because we've only been doing this well at competitions since about two years ago. and then there is the whole money thing....

  • they arent going to indy because they spend to much money on their props which is the only reason they won

  • i think that marcus deserved to win, they sound amazing! LD Bell however i think should have placed lower, i was expecting much more following last years show. The woodlands may have copied a theme from a past show but i heard the drill was really good. Although i believe Reagan should have been higher as well.

  • Regans show this year was not their best at all. If you would have seen them at their previous performances you'd see that when they performed at BOA on saturday they were REALLY pushing it.

  • i dont think you actually realise how difficult Reagans show is this year. we learned around 2 mins of drill the weekend before the competition..i will admit it was not a very strong performance, but there is soo much potential, and so much room for improvement. it will be amazing at Grand Nationals this year!

  • *realize

    lol

  • i'm in the band from louisiana that placed 6th at boa houston and your right i was shocked that there show wasn't good.we actually lost to them by .15 points and i was amazed how we almost that type of band but then again our band is really good (lafayette h.s.)

  • i think Pflugerville had the same slow movement as Marcus; they also had a bug theme and we jokingly call them the bug band or outdoor insect ensemble.

  • && a macrhing band does not use a ridiculous lady bug and spends ton of money to know and make sure the judges no to rank them higher. This is a marching band!!! Not a theatre performance to retard!

  • scarymovfan don't be so nieave to the truth. if you open your eyes to a true marching band, you would understand. A marching band, is not a choir, or crawls on the ground [LD bell] A marching band does not copy a show from a pst yr. performance Woodlands] a macrhing band doesn't make you feel bad for dead ppl to get a higher score [Churchill]

  • I kinda agree with you scolin and then I dont. I'm from WC and I totally understand your opinion of our show this year. You gotta understand that all this new stuff with feathers, marching oboes/bassoons, outragous props is what the judges want to see. This is BOA. NOT UIL. They WANT to be WOW'D This is just what we do now, and this is what us musicians love. You understand right?

  • I would like to thank you for posting this comment. I am from Bwood and we all were talking about how the only way to win BOA is to have really expensive props, and theater performances. Just out of curiosity did you see our show and if so what did you think?

  • i loved ya'lls show, it was seriously awesome.

  • So to many of you that are wondering how the hell Marcus was placed first with 2nd LD bell and 3rd woodlands and 4th churchill??? It's a conspearacy! The Composer's are paying the judges to place the bands they were hired to design for to get a higher rank, just so they will get more publicity from the bands so more bands will want to hire that composer to design the show! It's ridiculous and unfair to the bands who are more original and work harder and desereve there true score!

  • scolin07tennisgal, i think you are completely wrong...after all this is a competition, some bands do better then others. Just because one band does better than yours doesnt mean they "paid the judges" it simply means at the time they had the better show. There is always room for improvement

  • I go to Westlake and we skipped BOA SA this year because(rumors say) that the directors did not want to submit the band to subjective judging

  • I was wondering where Westlake was...

  • Westlake went to Duncanville instead (and won) because (rumors say) our directors did not want to be judged in a biased/subjective/reputation-based way. another rumor is schedule conflicts. but I thought we had a great show this year and could have done very well at BOA.

  • Truthfully i thought L.D. Bell should have won because their show was seriously awesome, and the music was great. Marcus had really great music too though! They cordniated their props and music very well though and that's why I believe they won. Gotta remember that L.D. Bell won last year and Marcus was 2nd, so they DEFINATLY wanted to up-do L.D. Bell.

  • wow... calm down. that is an extremely bold statement. besides marching band is not about the score or placement. thats all extra. it's about the experience and striving to better yourselves. i'm shure any of the bands you mentioned would tell you the same thing. but i understand your arguement, but you should keep it to yourself to prevent controversy

  • no opinions please, we don't want any controversy. :)

  • Woodlands got 3rd? Are you kidding me? Their show sucked ass! During their show, everybody around me kept saying, "What the hell is with the numbers?" At the end, somebody finally realized it was a sudoku. If they hadn't said anything, I still wouldn't have gotten it.

  • hey our show is probably the most complex show out there and we just werent completly prepaired, besides our show has 129 sets. How many do ya'll have?

  • well of course soduko is a mind puzzle and you obviously have to think about it....

anyways yes we did diserve third the only problem with our show is that it wasnt 100% there and the only reason for that is because we have 127 sets. How many do you guys have?

  • Yo, this is Jeff, good job on the lady bugging Josh.

  • congrates on winning BOA San Antonio! i really wanted to see your show live, but i was also performing! the ladybug is so cute. my band stayed afterwards to watch you guys play your show!

  • I just like to say that I'm from Churchill, I made this because It Marcus had a seriously awesome show and I had to show what I could. Yay 4th Place!

  • BOA is pretty much a reputation contest

  • yea i saw yall's show....amazing...amazing i saw it from the side but i loved the music and when i heard the podcast about you guys and it said what it was about i almost cried. i hope that just cause we made 1st everyone wont hate us... we're all equal, we all spend time out in the hot sun and work hard. we're no better than anyone else, we're family and besides next year's a new year.
