I have this kit! :D But you dont seem to have the same problem i do lol my cymbals go off sometimes if i hit the other pads a bit too hard! I really want to return it but its waaay too late now lol
@WANABGUITARIST221375 Actually I did experience this problem but it was often very quiet, if it got loud I would just edit out the extra cymbal hits in the midi recording.
@WANABGUITARIST221375 lol i have a huge favor... You should make a tutorial on how to connect a drum set to the vst's! Or you could help me out via message, either way would be great!
@Idsz that "processed" feel is from the compression and limiting enabled in addictive drums by default. you gotta disable it on the master every time you change kit type...
thats weird. I looked at this video couple hours a ago and now i see that superrior drummer is more realstic. Addictive drums sound pretty good but its not the most nat8ral .Have u tried Steven slate drums?
@angeriod I come to dissagree here mate, it depends what your settings and preferences are. You haven't heard anything yet until you start working on em :) There are really A LOT of choises you got. You just heard one sample of AD, i used to work with it a lot. ;) Check it out.
The superior drummer has better toms mostly but the snare is a little dry but nvm it still sounds good. like near the end it sounds real good. But ya i like supperior drummer better on AD that preset doesnt have the best toms but it is still good. Superior drummer seems more realistic
OK here may I ask a simple and stupid question? So basically you connect your electronic drums to the computer, and the software knows (or you let it know) this is a cymbal and so on. But for a person who doesn't know how to play the drums, the software has facilities that let's you write your drum line right? Is there any option between the two? I don't know stupid things like playing each drum or cymbal with a key (on the pc keyboard or an actual keyboard) or something of that sort?
In my daw i just make individual instrument tracks for each drum piece. With instrument tracks you can add your own insert effects. Eq, compression, reverb etc. Of course you wanna turn off the internal effects. Setting up this way gives you alot of control over your sounds allowing the drums to sit nicely in pretty much any style of mix. Of course this does use up a bit of Ram. Personally I like AD better for it's clarity but superior is no slouch. Steven slate drums or ocean way are great as
One thing to point out in this demonstration: Addictive Drums' "Startup" kit has TONS of effects already activated on it. Compressors, EQ, volume tweaks etc etc. Superior Drummer 2's kit is dry. If someone out there has both, take the effects off AD and compare them dry. Both sound pretty sick.
@NitroCoasters go to the Master control in the AD panel and take the Compressor off, JUST in the Master control. Try that out.
@paperbed Thanks man, THAT made all the difference to the sound... it's amazing how much compression can take away and add in some cases.... nice one...
Addictive drums may sound better, but only as a solo drumkit. My experiance is, when you try to make songs, it will be so compressed, when you turn it up louder, it really sucks. It pushes away the other instruments because of the compression.
In superior you can add the perfect amount of compression, just as you want it. In Addictive Drums it's already done for you, and that's really annoying.
its hard to compare with only one type of kit from both but by my experiences superior drummer is used by heaps of amazing bands so yeah im pretty sure superior drums is better
Superior isnt that well configured in this video. Superior is a much more complete product, but addictive comes more "ready to play". If you like tweaking, try superior.
@kerodean I will add this: Funk Ad Pak SUCKS!!! Retro Pak is sweet. Funk is NOT. I dislike it so much I'm like mad at the company and now am thinking of going with a different product. The snares in AD are not tight enough. Too metallic sounding. I'm really feeling like I wasted a lot of money.
Maybe you should try tweak the VAST amount of tweakable parameters within Addictive Drums... - I have to go with Addictive Drums.. sounds more realistic & the way you can edit each drum it golden.
@kerodean Btw, how long u been drumming for? Your real good. ve been playing for about 6 months, did u learn on your own? Im a self leane. Wanna post me the link where u got this? OR did u buy it?
@Kurtiz76 Addictive Drums..easiest to use but the samples aren't very fat sounding unless you EQ them. Has a lot of very useful grooves and has my second favorite interface (behind EZDrummer).
BFD 2 Too time consuming to be useful to a songwriter. No new expansions or updated interface.
Superior--The best overall because its ease of use and how expandable it is. It'd take pages to explain why I like SD.
Also, I suggest trying the NI Abbey Road drum kits..AWESOME stuff.
@kerodean Well. When i open the addictive drums, all of my pads on drum kit,is not what must be.my toms is cowbell or rides, but is not toms, how must be.I want to know, how to chose pad in addictive drums.I want before my ride be ride.Toms be toms and snare be snare.I dont know how to do it!!!I am sorry. If i have a errors in my letter.A am not american=)
@kerodean Good demo man...I just got PT 9 and I'm not a drummer so will just be using SD2 as stand alone plugin..Do you know if i can just drag and drop all the drum grooves into a session or do i need other software or midicontroller??
That was a good demonstration of two great programs. AD is a little better. Not because the drums are processed but because the response is more natural. If you close your eyes while listening it is very hard to tell its electronic! But you can tell a little with SD. The magic is in the snare. AD snare sound is variable with each hit. SD snare sounds the same all the way through. I like both programs but I would pick AD. Its all you need!
I think they both sound about the same, but the SD drums just sounded a bit more real. That being said, I checked out these Steven Slate samples and they sound pretty killer. I would say they are the best I have heard, but I have yet to actually try them out.
Hey, i see you are using midi-usb cable... Do you have an audio interface? Is it necessary to play with superior or AD? O is it possible to connect the midi side of the cable to your kit and usb side to your pc? Thanks
@wykisz you can buy midi-usb cables, I used midi-midi into my midi keyboard midi-in. The audio interface is just for keeping the latency down, you can download Asio4All for a similar effect :)
well i finally have superior drums 2.1 with metal foundry and new york sdx and it rooooocks!!!!metal foundry is waaaaaaay more realistic than addictive and new york kits rule.i waqs an addictive fan till now!the only problem with superior is Ram( ive got only 2gb on 1066) it needs more!i ve played some midi(slayer and meshuggah) and m.foundry is so heavy!!
Addictive drums is a great program but superior drums has the potential to sound way more realistic. If you have listened to any of Bulb's recordings you can see how epic superior drums can sound. Check out the band periphery. Their entire album was recorded using a sampled drumset and superior. Animals as Leaders is another band who used superior, and a sampled drumset wasn't even used. He literally just plugged in drum parts manually.
@Coreman53 Actually, the most recent Periphery album was recorded with Matt Halpern, who is a fuckin' god... but their old stuff, and Bulb's stuff all features sequenced drums.
@TomConger That's true. However, the drums you hear on the album are still superior drums. They still used a triggered set, played by Matt Halpern, to record everything. And yes, he is very much amazing at drums : )
@Coreman53 yeah he is. but everything is still obviously quantized. which is shit. a real drum kit such as KARNIVOOL drums will always shit on these samples. however, they are awesome for home recording an production. but i dont know why a legit band like periphery would try to find a good producer and do real drums. shits me
@thommosam Yeah hopefully in the future they will. Their album is great and I love the drums, but it's true that they sound pretty processed. I think the reason they didn't on this album is because Bulb produced the entire thing himself. He probably doesn't really know how to record/produce real drums yet, but he still wanted his name on the production. If you think about it though, for an indie production it is spectacular. But overall I agree with you, it could definitely sound better.
@Coreman53 addictive drums are like processed drums the other kit is more natural...well from my point of view addictive is better(if i ll find the right kit in) cause i wanna spend less hours proccesing the drum tracks(each part a track not a stereo file all the kit)
@moderncrusaderspage Yeah, it can be pretty frustrating to use superior drums at first just because you have to spend time fitting them in the mix correctly. The guitarist/producer for my band doesn't really perfer them. He actually liked addictive better. We ended up using Joey Sturgis slate samples instead which sounds the best in my opinion.
@Coreman53 , you can modify Addictive Drums individually. So many parameters and EQ aund tricks. This and the Drummer make it realistic. That's why Addictive Drums is really perfect and the best.
@SunflowerContest You can modify each individual drum in Superior drums as well if thats what you are talking about. It is all just subjective though. Different people like different programs.
@Coreman53 i dont think that he actually used the pre recorded drum samples on superior drummer cause those sound to real. he could have recorded his own like drum "patches" with a real kit and used superior drummer to like plug it in so the temp is perfect if that makes sense. but if he used superior drummer and nothing else that man is super legit.
@Masharbashboi Well thats exactly what superior is though. It's real drumsets that have been sampled at different dynamics to create a realistic sound. Bulb used what they have sampled with the program and basically tuned it using the customization options in the program. It might be possible that he used metal foundry as well, but thats just another addon made by the superior drummer guys.
I think Addictive Drums sounds best, but addictive drum onay has possiblity to to have 4 cymbals 1 hi-hat and foor toms and a extra. But with superior drummer you can have a shit load of cymbals, so im not sure wich one to buy....
SD sounds a bit dry, I always loved the AD, but couldn't make a decent snare sound (for recording, I'm not a drummer). What's your verdict? Which one do you prefer?
@mishadeth I tended to favour AD because of the large variety of sounds, but SD does sound quiet realistic, in my recordings so far I've mainly used AD
@mishadeth I used AD with a custom snare (I also don't really like the inbuilt snares that much), and it sounds really good. But you really have no limits with SD.
@mishadeth I just have it running separately in Kontakt. I took the snare out of AD, and layered them together so they work seamlessly. It's just a friend's dry snare that he sampled. I put it through compression and reverb/gate and other stuff that I like.
good job , , i mean vst files are hard to figure out as it is , i know you have brains , but i still dont know what is better addictive drums or superior drummer
check out davidmeshow's song anything. he uses superior drummer on that song played with a roland td 20 electronic set. sounds just like a real drumset!!
@Equestional At first Addictive always looks better than the others, but after a month using it you get bored of it because it always sounds the same. Hear the snare in this demo. well, that's the only usable snare and you'll never get another snare sound.
@Lgw1984 what do you mean, never get another snare sound? I haven't used it yet, but I thought there were practically limitless eq and compressions. ?
@Equestional I must say that I love Addictive drums cymbals :). If you don't have the place or the equipment, I would mic: Kick, snare and toms. I would use addictive for cymbals and Hi Hats
@kerodean Nice one! And is it hard to set up? Cause I'm just tryna find the cheapest way to record drums, I already have the program so I'm just picking out a kid. And I need double bass too, do all E-kits support double bass?
@phycho91 Yeah they should support it, if you mean double kick pedal, I used the DTXplorer because they're a good cheap starters kit that's quite reliable :)
Setup is fairly easy too, superior drummer 2.0 and addictive drums have edrum support.
addictive drums definitely has a fuller natural sound to it, but the hi hats just don't sit right, sound too thick, I guess you could filter some of thickness out, I've tried, I dunno
Here the easy way to get it working, 1) if your going to use a vst for the 1st time use Savihost very simple
2) Usb midi cable, cheap silver ebay one.
3)Asio4all
4)Now ppl on thee web say set the asio buffer low in Asio control panel but they for get to mention GOING INTO WAVE in your vst and setting it low there, I go 128 each I have no lag, cost me $10
wassup man! after i download the asio4all and install it, what should i do next? just plug the midi cable between module and my laptop and do the recording? or there are some settings that i should do like output setting of something.. i use Presonus inspire (firewire, no MIDI) soundcard, and Cubase LE 4. \m/_
@ditoarch06 I think the presonus inspire can be run in asio mode anyway, no need for asio4all :P Basically just open a new midi track in cubase and set its midi input to recieve from the drums then put a drum VST on the same midi track so it will be triggered by it, that should be it!
those two VSTs sounds great! but which one works lighter? so my DELL studio 15 wont work to hard when i record drum tracks using VST instrument. thx \m/_
@ditoarch06 My laptops a intel core 2 duo, 4gig ram, m-audio fast track external asio soundcard, the asio soundcard is the most important part, you can download something called asio4all that helps reduce delay :)
Yeezus folks, come on get real. Addictive Drums are very processed and mix-ready. You can't undo that. Run Superior through top notch EQ and compressors and it kills AD. All these comparisons on youtube are not fair. AD are always louder and punchier which will win out all the the time. AD is very, very nice shit, but is not as versatile as SD. Peace.
@novanine9 You need a midi signal from your drums into a digital audio workstation like ableton live, or pro toold, fl studio, then you need some kind of drum software like superior drummer 2.0 or addictive drums to be triggered by the midi.
In my oppinion the yamaha is more durable, reliable and more likely to be longer lasting, also a good resale value. However a cheap alesis would get the job done just as easily.
in regards to modding the yamaha, the dtxplorer doesnt have any extra ports
@kerodean - Oh, also...do these 2 drum software sound quite a bit better than the stock sounds that come with the dtxplorer's brain? I have been wondering about that...
Nice playing and nice demo. One question. Did you create presets for both the vst´s before playing throught the software or are the demos "stock" as in you picked up a kit that came prebuilded in each plugin and started playing?
@kerodean Sorry, I have little knowledge about it. I just wonder how you used an eletronic drum machine as MIDI controller to play with the sounds of this VST plugin.
@brunoguitardreamer The drums module had a midi out jack, which I plugged a midi cable into, the other end of the midi cable went into the midi IN on my Axiom 61 midi keyboard, which in turn is plugged into my computer through usb, then the midi notes are picked up in ableton live, trigger the VSTs and go back out through my m-audio fast track USB external soundcard and into my earphones without any delay. I hope that was clear heh :)
Addictive drums is more useful for rock and pop. Superior drummer kicks ass a metal!

@SunflowerContest You can modify each individual drum in Superior drums as well if thats what you are talking about. It is all just subjective though. Different people like different programs.
Coreman53 1 year ago
@Coreman53 You can check out my channel too. Ive become quite familiar with the program and pushed it to its true potential. wipemysmile
wipemysmile 1 year ago
@Coreman53 i dont think that he actually used the pre recorded drum samples on superior drummer cause those sound to real. he could have recorded his own like drum "patches" with a real kit and used superior drummer to like plug it in so the temp is perfect if that makes sense. but if he used superior drummer and nothing else that man is super legit.
Masharbashboi 1 year ago
@Masharbashboi Well thats exactly what superior is though. It's real drumsets that have been sampled at different dynamics to create a realistic sound. Bulb used what they have sampled with the program and basically tuned it using the customization options in the program. It might be possible that he used metal foundry as well, but thats just another addon made by the superior drummer guys.
Coreman53 1 year ago
@Coreman53 would you say superior is better than ez?
Masharbashboi 1 year ago
@Masharbashboi Superior is made by EZDrummer. But yeah, it's better than just the original that you are referring to.

@zeropm1 by using a Midi-usb cable, you plug it into your computer and into your drumkit.

I think Addictive Drums sounds best, but addictive drum onay has possiblity to to have 4 cymbals 1 hi-hat and foor toms and a extra. But with superior drummer you can have a shit load of cymbals, so im not sure wich one to buy....
DrumsOfAPredator 1 year ago
@DrumsOfAPredator I guess it would depend on which e-drums are you going to use. :)
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean At the moment i have 1 hi-hat and 3 cymbals, and 4 pads + bass drum pad. So at the moment AD is a good choice.
DrumsOfAPredator 1 year ago
The humanization in SD is so much better to me.
LuminescenceAR 1 year ago
you could use better sound for SD.
I got both, but i like to use SD for recordings but AD seems better for playing with e-drums.
PuppetGovernmentLV 1 year ago
SD sounds a bit dry, I always loved the AD, but couldn't make a decent snare sound (for recording, I'm not a drummer). What's your verdict? Which one do you prefer?
Nice vid, btw!
mishadeth 1 year ago
@mishadeth I tended to favour AD because of the large variety of sounds, but SD does sound quiet realistic, in my recordings so far I've mainly used AD
kerodean 1 year ago
@mishadeth I used AD with a custom snare (I also don't really like the inbuilt snares that much), and it sounds really good. But you really have no limits with SD.
metabog 1 year ago
@metabog Yeah, everyone is complaining about the snares. So you integrated a custom one in AD or used it separately?
mishadeth 1 year ago
@mishadeth I just have it running separately in Kontakt. I took the snare out of AD, and layered them together so they work seamlessly. It's just a friend's dry snare that he sampled. I put it through compression and reverb/gate and other stuff that I like.
metabog 1 year ago
@mishadeth You should try playing with the mic bleeds to get rid of the "dryness".
Also what sound set are you using.
rbneville 1 year ago
good job , , i mean vst files are hard to figure out as it is , i know you have brains , but i still dont know what is better addictive drums or superior drummer
lllwastelll 1 year ago
The problem with addictive is that u can recognize it anywhere it used ,you hear that pumped SNARE and u know it's Addictive

kerodean 1 year ago
wow the addictive sounds a lot more lively.
Equestional 1 year ago
@Equestional At first Addictive always looks better than the others, but after a month using it you get bored of it because it always sounds the same. Hear the snare in this demo. well, that's the only usable snare and you'll never get another snare sound.
Lgw1984 1 year ago
@Lgw1984 what do you mean, never get another snare sound? I haven't used it yet, but I thought there were practically limitless eq and compressions. ?
RikJamezBich 1 year ago
@Equestional I must say that I love Addictive drums cymbals :). If you don't have the place or the equipment, I would mic: Kick, snare and toms. I would use addictive for cymbals and Hi Hats

@oOatoOo Buy it, in a moth you'll be tired of obtaining the same sound always.
The good: Cymbals and Hi Hats
The bad: Shitty snares, and the good sounding ones sound always the same.

So can you do this with any sort of cheap electric drum kit with an midi output?
phycho91 1 year ago
@phycho91 Yes you certainly can. :)
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean Nice one! And is it hard to set up? Cause I'm just tryna find the cheapest way to record drums, I already have the program so I'm just picking out a kid. And I need double bass too, do all E-kits support double bass?
phycho91 1 year ago
@phycho91 Yeah they should support it, if you mean double kick pedal, I used the DTXplorer because they're a good cheap starters kit that's quite reliable :)
Setup is fairly easy too, superior drummer 2.0 and addictive drums have edrum support.
kerodean 1 year ago
addictive drums definitely has a fuller natural sound to it, but the hi hats just don't sit right, sound too thick, I guess you could filter some of thickness out, I've tried, I dunno

Here the easy way to get it working, 1) if your going to use a vst for the 1st time use Savihost very simple
2) Usb midi cable, cheap silver ebay one.
3)Asio4all
4)Now ppl on thee web say set the asio buffer low in Asio control panel but they for get to mention GOING INTO WAVE in your vst and setting it low there, I go 128 each I have no lag, cost me $10
tekNiqueAU 1 year ago
wassup man! after i download the asio4all and install it, what should i do next? just plug the midi cable between module and my laptop and do the recording? or there are some settings that i should do like output setting of something.. i use Presonus inspire (firewire, no MIDI) soundcard, and Cubase LE 4. \m/_
ditoarch06 1 year ago
@ditoarch06 I think the presonus inspire can be run in asio mode anyway, no need for asio4all :P Basically just open a new midi track in cubase and set its midi input to recieve from the drums then put a drum VST on the same midi track so it will be triggered by it, that should be it!
kerodean 1 year ago
Does the positional sensing works with a DTXplorer?
Deluxeta 1 year ago
@Deluxeta I don't think the standard DTXplorer snare has that, but maybe if you plugged in a snare that did?
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean I mean, Addictive Drums can do it. But is it really compatible?
Deluxeta 1 year ago
@Deluxeta I'm really not sure, sorry :)

i understand now.. i'm working out for the asio4all 1st

those two VSTs sounds great! but which one works lighter? so my DELL studio 15 wont work to hard when i record drum tracks using VST instrument. thx \m/_
ditoarch06 1 year ago
@ditoarch06 They are both quite low on the cpu processor, Addictive drums loads quicker for me, but its up to you really.
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean if you don't mind, what's the specification of you laptop?
thx \m/_
ditoarch06 1 year ago
@ditoarch06 My laptops a intel core 2 duo, 4gig ram, m-audio fast track external asio soundcard, the asio soundcard is the most important part, you can download something called asio4all that helps reduce delay :)

suoperior is better than addictive, and BFD beats them all
emilshere 1 year ago
Yeezus folks, come on get real. Addictive Drums are very processed and mix-ready. You can't undo that. Run Superior through top notch EQ and compressors and it kills AD. All these comparisons on youtube are not fair. AD are always louder and punchier which will win out all the the time. AD is very, very nice shit, but is not as versatile as SD. Peace.
Theodoric1 1 year ago 14
@Theodoric1
you can also get clean unprocessed kits from AD and make them as you like.. just like you had just recorded them.

Superior owns addictive, at least from what I'm hearing in this video.

Are you serious? Just one?
In other words...you plugged from the yamaha's brain - the midi out into your computer's usb?
regards,
Tom
novanine9 1 year ago
@novanine9 Yes, that is correct.
kerodean 1 year ago
thanks for the quick answer....how did you do it with your yamaha?
Did you, simply, purchase the alesis i/o trigger and that's all you needed extra to be able to trigger the sounds of the softwares?
Thanks again
novanine9 1 year ago
@novanine9 I simply purchesed a cheap "midi to usb" cable and plugged one end into my computer and the other into my drums.
kerodean 1 year ago
What all would I have to buy extra to get access to software sounds, via my dtxplorer?
Would I have to get the alesis i/o trigger interface, and that's it?
thanks
I am looking to buy an dtxplorer or an alesis usb kit, new just out now. I like the yamaha's fill better, but alesis offers it all in one package.
If it is easy to mod the yamaha...i would get it
novanine9 1 year ago
@novanine9 You need a midi signal from your drums into a digital audio workstation like ableton live, or pro toold, fl studio, then you need some kind of drum software like superior drummer 2.0 or addictive drums to be triggered by the midi.
In my oppinion the yamaha is more durable, reliable and more likely to be longer lasting, also a good resale value. However a cheap alesis would get the job done just as easily.
in regards to modding the yamaha, the dtxplorer doesnt have any extra ports
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean - Oh, also...do these 2 drum software sound quite a bit better than the stock sounds that come with the dtxplorer's brain? I have been wondering about that...
novanine9 1 year ago
@novanine9 Yeah, they sound much better then the stock module sounds :)
kerodean 1 year ago
Nice playing and nice demo. One question. Did you create presets for both the vst´s before playing throught the software or are the demos "stock" as in you picked up a kit that came prebuilded in each plugin and started playing?
Thanks for any info.
Tuscopa 1 year ago
@Tuscopa Hey, thanks. To answer your question all the presets I used were the stock settings that you get when you load up the VST out of the box.

brunoguitardreamer 1 year ago
@brunoguitardreamer What do you mean?
kerodean 1 year ago
@kerodean Sorry, I have little knowledge about it. I just wonder how you used an eletronic drum machine as MIDI controller to play with the sounds of this VST plugin.
brunoguitardreamer 1 year ago
@brunoguitardreamer The drums module had a midi out jack, which I plugged a midi cable into, the other end of the midi cable went into the midi IN on my Axiom 61 midi keyboard, which in turn is plugged into my computer through usb, then the midi notes are picked up in ableton live, trigger the VSTs and go back out through my m-audio fast track USB external soundcard and into my earphones without any delay. I hope that was clear heh :)
