  • i have this on dvd and fear & Loathing in las vegas

  • Here's the thing:

With a character like Dr. Thompson, who is in every sense of the word a character, there is so much room for interpretation. Mr. Depp's portrayal of him is not supposed to be like this one. Because Hunter had such an erratic personality, it is not a stretch to believe that some days Murray's portrayal was closer to the real guy and on other days, Depp was more accurate- I like them both equally and for different reasons.

  • I liked Fear & Loathin in Las Vegas better, but this was OK. :)

  • you would think that people who are watching this would be smarter than "amune", "simular" or "tryed"

  • I just watched this film a couple hours ago and I loved it, but I was surprised that they gave it terrible reviews on Rottentomatoes... I don't want to live on this planet anymore. ):

  • @SihtFukcCokc Don't worry, rottentomatoes is full of bias anyways.

  • Lucy in the skyyyy with diiiamonds

  • I need to see this.

  • Hunter was so amune to drugs he didnt use them for his suicide...he used a gun.

Ppl wonder why he didnt kill himself with an OD....im sure he tryed that method with no result

  • This movie woud be perfect,if they cut the reporters acid trip.It was very unfunny and makes me cringe everytime.

  • i think in some parts murrays voice is a lot more spot on to the real hunter i love both depp and murray obv depp is better different film altogether. still brilliant and funny this fil

  • Johnny depp definitely is the better version, but I am very surprised with how well bill Murray did. Wow I expected alot less. He's pretty spot on as well. Benecio del torro was far superior though.

  • @leatherfaze03 I don't know

    I can't really see that

Dan's great but this part looks a little hazy for him in my opinion

But then again I said the same thing about Peter Boyle and obviously I was wrong

I wouldn't mind if he gave it a shot though

So I'd actually like to see that

  • what a trip especially the sound track

    regards

    jimmy

  • Why are people comparing 'Where the Buffalo Roam' and 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas' they are both completely different things, just based on the same guys life

  • @Newworldfortomorrow It's youtube man, anything goes in these comments.

  • @Newworldfortomorrow You do realize you just answered your own question and contradicted yourself in the same sentence, right? lol

  • @Newworldfortomorrow who is those movies based on dude

  • @benoitdidnotdoit They are based on the Journalist Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, looks like this is your first into coming into a very strange world indeed

  • @Newworldfortomorrow You just said why. Because it portrays the life of Hunter S. Thompson.

  • @TheInsanemonkeyboy You have a point there, but I mean as in like why compare the Silent Hill games? like Silent Hill 2 and Silent HIll 3 lol, completely different things but both good in their own right, and neither are better but they are all in the same town lol

  • @Newworldfortomorrow they are simular movies....different story in a different place but they are simular.

  • @MAKER6450 Fair enough I will agree with you on that one, but thats only because they are both based around parts of Hunter S Thompsons life

  • @Newworldfortomorrow The car scenes are very simular

  • @Newworldfortomorrow well where the buffalo roam does encompass a fair amount of direct quotation from HST's Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas book. so i can see how it can be misconstrued to a degree. But i agree with you, they are both based on HST's life, but Depps version was a movie adaptation of the book. This wasnt meant to be.

  • @Newworldfortomorrow

Ummm no...fear and loathing is lame...they are exactly the same. But becuase people are generally dumb...hollywood can re-release BS and you will buy it.

  • @jmore1971 If you think they are the same I think you need to re watch them, there are a few similar scenes seen as both movies were based on the same persons life, but the films are very different over all

  • @Newworldfortomorrow They are both based on the same book by Hunter S. Thompson... it shouldn't come as a shock that people are comparing them, when they're based on the same thing. No brainer.

  • That's a very nice trailer - well done! :-)

  • Murray said while working on this film Hunter lived with him and the two would stay up all night. He said Hunter left his house but he never left him.

  • I liked fear and loathing in Las Vegas more

  • Murray is AWESOME!!

  • sorry but johnny depp is the best actor for the role of the imfamous hunter s thompson

  • murray did a good job too but i like johnny depps version better

  • technically Johnny Depp was Raoul Duke, not Hunter S. Thompson. Bill Murray is playing Thompson. I do think that Benicio Del Toro did a better job as Dr. Gonzo

  • I honestly think Depp did a much better job of thompson.

  • @Puffxcore

how the hell you can say that he played better Thompson? do you know how he acts in real life?

  • is that the same story like"fear and loathing in las vegas"? I Think the trailer and the film "fear and loathing in las vegas"is better

  • It is completely different from Fear and Loathing. This is a more realistic story but can definitely at times be just as surreal and wild as F&L.

  • @DEiCHKi both are based off of hunter s tgompson. the difference is fear and loathing is based off a book written by thompson in 1971

  • @DEiCHKi where the buffalo roam is a story about hunter thompsons life, while fear and loathing was just a story about a trip him and his lawyer took to las vegas, i think there both amazing though :D

  • @DEiCHKi read books...don't watch movies...Start with Hunter S. Thompson

  • @DEiCHKi

both movies are based on the same person's story...

    (Hunter s. Thompson)

  • @DEiCHKi No its not the same story, its based upon parts of hunter S thompsons life, so there will be parts extremely similar to Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, but its not the same

  • Cool trailer. gunna have to look this up. It interesting how murry and depp picked up on similar manurisms.

  • johnny depp captured him better.........in my opinion

  • @mavs012 its hard to tell them apart

  • I thought both movies, this one and Gilliam's Depp version both did a pretty terrible job of truly capturing Thompson.

I'll always have a soft spot for this movie though cause of my love and admiration of Murray and Boyle.

  • Frightfully good trailer my friend, it really is in the style of those old retro movie trailers and gives a good taste of the movie, as a fan of Bill Murray, Peter Boyle, Hunter S. Thompson, and being hooked by the trailer, this is something I really want to see now.

  • True story, I once wrote a note quoted from the first scene to a co-worker as a joke. He laid it down, forgot about it, someone else found it and took it to the boss. Plant wide rumor about someone in my dept. writing notes about drugs. Damn fascist bosses ... lol but true.

  • cool trailer man

  • Comment removed

  • I always give this film to people who say they watched only Las Vegas Parano, love Bill Murray in this one!

  • Never seen this. Seen Fear and Loathing.

  • @seorimgr

    Wrong

  • "I am not an advocate...but in my case it's worked." Regardless of what you felt about Hunter S. Thompson, Bill Murray and Peter Boyle were absolutely genius in this movie!

  • Yeah, and Elton John is straight...

  • and you sir, are a moron

  • false...Murray Nailed IT...

  • Dr. Hunter S. Thompson WAS AND WILL FOREVER BE THE BEST REPORTER THE WORLD WILL EVEN HEAR OR READ ABOUT. MAY U REST IN PEACE.

  • @TOMIN209 he was a journalist not a reporter!!!

  • actually bill did the same thing... they said it took him months to stop acting like him after shooting

  • I wished id'a hung w/ mr H one time ...before he went comminted the single nastiest burn he could muster!

    RIP

    Raul

    Hunter

    the dudest one of all!

  • what drug should I use when watching this movie? any suggestions?

  • As your attorney I advise you take a hit from the little brown bottle in my shaving kit.

  • very nice!!!!^^

  • @imre420 "you took too much man, too much too much".

    lol

  • Acid my friend, as it was hard to find people to eat acid with as the age of Nixon wore on. The doomed were unaccustomed to the new world where they weren't used to dealing with harsh realities like doom and failure.

  • get really drunk. and take some speed too

  • eat some reds and try to calm down. Smoke some grass, shoot some smack.

  • nah. dont listen to him.

  • Take your hit of the Sunshine acid...

  • take something that increases your attention... drinking and smoking weed are definitely out of the question...

i fell asleep like the first thirteen times i tried to watch this movie because of that...

i still dont know what the fucking plot is. haha

  • I dunno about this argument of whos better, not a good idea. Bill Murray seems alot more accurate to Hunter. Depp seems like a more exaggerated version of Hunter's subtle charecteristics that made him unique.(not that thats bad). Both are great and different and thats good. And Depp and Del Toro made a halarious team. Who cares?

  • The way I see it is Murray plays Hunter himself very well, whereas Depp plays a very convincing Duke. An insane drug and anti-authority freak. Hunter himself saw Raoul Duke as another person, an alter ego.

  • you bastard .....you stole my comment... i was just fixing to write that then saw yours lol ......its so very true though....depp looks more like him though and murray sounds more like him....both good movies though

  • Johnnys meant to be playin again in the new thompson film, the rum diaries

  • Hunter is goddly

  • i totally think bill plays a better hunter s than jonny depp in fear and loathing! what do you think?

  • contrary to popular belief hunter wasnt a total drug retarded fiend like this. he was a great literary mind who indulged in drugs. hst wasnt well known at all when this movie came out so the crazy drug antics were blown out of proportion for comedies sake

  • thanks for the insight billclinton, but try reading a biography.. may i recommend the newest one entitled Gonzo. you will quickly find out that Hunter did in fact use drugs pretty heavily. i wouldn't call him a drug retarded fiend by any means, but then again i don't think that is how he is portrayed in this movie either.

  • robot

  • ...?

  • You damn robots and your logic and reason! How dare you!

    lol. many people are weird.

  • Fucking eh.

That book is an awesome read too.

  • whats the name of the book? i wanna give it a read

  • @billclinton yeah theres also documentaries that show him using drugs while "off camera"

  • This film had lots of Creedence in it ... F&L didn't, which was a mistake!

  • Did HST do some voice over for some of the scenes? He really sounds like him.

  • no thats really bills voice he played a much better HST than jonny depp dont u think

  • Maybe, not sure. They both had very different qualities that made them both pretty unbeatable for the part.

Depp actually looks like a young Thompson.

Who would you have picked other than the 2 of them to play him?

  • he s not even close to johnny dude

  • johnny spent like four months with hunter

  • they were friends after they hung out. hunter thought of johnny as a younger him.

  • Murray did a good job man, I believe he may love his character as much as Depp did. Still, the movie was dwarfed by Fear and Loathing. Fear and Loathing was a piece of art.

  • I prefer fear and loathing

  • yeez are all a bunch a fannies

  • Don't insult the greatest journalist of American history.

  • I meant jcstl88...

  • whoo the fuke ar you, too dictat whoo cabn gif opinons! sO whot if peeple cant punctate or speel correcxt an they're gramma imperfeck so long. as piple oversit there commens whot it matta?.

  • I dont want to interfere into anyones private disputes but I cant help but sympathise with your annoyance over such matters! It drives me nuts when you try to have an exchange of comments and you get gibberish in return! I shall now butt out.....

  • maybe not but i understand the sheer frustration that can arise when you just try to make a point about one fact and it goes wrong and becomes tiresome because some idiot takes it wrong and your harrased with idiotic badly written comments! i feel for you!!!

  • hahaha americans

  • lol..... grammer is one thing.... but basic communication is another

  • I am doing somthing productive Igor, im writing a musical for the moment. I have nothing against you, i just think you write lousy comments and that you are one of those jerks who wont let people have their own opinions. So, instead of wasting time, writing nasty things back to me, just try to be a nice guy. The world is full of assholes, so try to get rid of one of them.

  • Now listen Igor, i can understand that the vastness of my intelligence is too great for you to comprehend, but dont make yourself an even bigger asshole by trying to be as smart as us normal people. So do somthing more rewarding with your life, like inhaling a pufferfish.

  • all against jcstl88 are fuckn morons he actually heard the info from the actor. so its truth. you can read anything online-- that does not make it true.

  • dude u are the idiot thats off the conan interview and anyway who the fuck are you to say what Hunter s Thompson ment, what do u think your the prince of gonzo go fuck yourself you materials stealing fag, go be original.

  • Look how's talking, fuckmook.

  • is there any other movies about Hunter besides this and fear and loathing? (and the rum diary)

  • Obviously you dont know anything, Bill spent alot of time with Thompson and learned to impersonate him really good. He was so good at it that he had trouble coming out of the part.

  • oh wow you saw the conan interview as well, want a fucking medal for stealing other peoples material, clap clap clap. You think watching one interview mkes you an expert

  • Jesus christ, Bill is even better at impersonating Dr.Thompson, better than Johnny.

  • One of my favorite films, Bill did a great job!

  • I haven't seen this one yet but plan on it.

Is that airplane scene from Fear and Loathing on the Campaign trail?

  • the movie was kind of an amalgamum of all his his books...I believe it was...his lawyer was called "Laslo" in this movie...

  • I'm a bit divided. As a big fan of Thompson, I think the film is pretty horrible (Hunter himself said it was cartoony crap). But as a fan of film, I think this is quite underrated. I won't say it is the best thing ever, but it definitely deserves a little more respect than it gets.

  • He always downgraded stuff like that though...lol he talked allot of crap. Just joking around though...

  • But he love Gilliam's fear and loathing adaptation. He said it was a masterpiece. But he thought this one was complete shit. I kind of like it though. (He did say that Bill Murray did a good job though).

  • Ah I see...

  • man they sure fucked up the "drugs and insanity always worked for me" line....

  • if you watch the documentary on hunter s. thompson,"buy the ticket, take the ride" youll learn that both depp and bill lived in aspen with hunter to understand everybit of him because they wanted to portray him perfectly in the films. they were all really good friends. the documentary also shares som,e pretty crazy/funny stories

  • Im a big fan of Hunter and thats why I must say that this film is pure crap, and out the window it went when I realised that.

  • oh yeah, even as a baldie. it doesn't matter... the only movie I saw him in that I thought he wasn't hot was Charlie and the Chocolate Factory! hahaha! He just looked creepy in that one.

  • pretty hair, though.

  • I love that movie! Anything by Hunter S. Thompson is quite entertaining! And Bill Murray did a wonderful job... (although Jonny Depp is a HOTTIE!)

  • Hottie even as a baldie?

  • I read that Hunter and Murray shared an apartment for a few weeks so Bill could get his mannerisms down. Their Liquor bill was horrendous!

  • that seems likely... of course, the Colonel lived with the Doctor for several months as I recall. At least one month. Horrific twins, freakish bookends.

  • What trips me out is how similar Bill Murray's performance is to Depp in "Fear and Loathing". Two guys you would never confuse for each other in a million years, channeling the same nutty SOB.

  • Peter Boyle RIP

  • The mistake that this film made was to bastardize the mythos of Thompson by welding Duke and Hunter together. Hunter wasn't a character 24/7 but he could invoke it when it suited him. This scene is the best of a bad movie though, and it's good to have at least one other movie about HST.

  • i wonder if being mistaken as duke by the general public gave hst a complex

  • I read somewhere that Depp is going to do another movie based on HST's The Rum Diary...Hopefully it be done right and we'll have 3 movies about HST....well kinda...
