hey I have a zune 30 the same one u have in this video which has the software version 2.5 and I just downloaded a newer software for free on zune.net I believe it's the zune 4.0 sw and I tried to update it and it will start to update and after a while the whole pc will freeze. idk wat the prob is?? it get's to step 2 of copying to player and it freezes..? The controls are a bit different than an iPod, but I think they're better: you don't have a wheel that you have to crank round and round, over and over. Instead, you have a touchpad that you sweep your finger over (up, down, left, right) to move quickly through your content. It also functions as a regular control pad, giving you single up-down-left-right adjustments. It's really the best of both worlds.
I can't comment on rumours, but technically the Zunes that came out in holiday 2008 were the v3 Zunes - they had a capacity bump, but nothing else, which was pretty frustrating. There are rumours about the 4th gen Zune that you can look up if you're interested.
It's funny you should say that, because I think iTunes sucks really bad, and I quite like the Zune software. I keep all my music on my Windows Home Server so every device in my house can access it, and because iTunes lacks simple folder monitoring, it's 100% useless to me.

That's pretty strange! Reboot your PC, and reboot your Zune. Then download the 3.0 software from the Zune web site. Install the 3.0 software, then dock your Zune and hopefully it will update your Zune...
Uninstall the 3.0 firmware? No, not really - the best you could hope for is to do a hard reset which will restore your Zune to the original firmware it came with. Why would you want to get rid of 3.0 though? Is it giving you trouble?
Did you hack the Zune somehow, maybe the Asian character font hack? I'd say to hard reset the Zune (look up how to do that) and update it with the latest firmware update again.
If you have the big font, you're running the old 1.x firmware and your device isn't up to date. Download the new desktop Zune software, install it, then connect your Zune and get updated.
I love my 30GB zune, and now even more that i was able to put games on it, the screen is prefect for that, and i like the new menu a lot more than the old one.
No, I can't convince you - the iPod Touch is more like a PDA that also plays music and videos, and the Zune is strictly a media player. You have to decide which you want more. :-)

Then you either have a bad USB port on your PC, a bad cable, or maybe a bad Zune. The best thing to do is to try to connect it on another PC and see what happens.

Damn. Well, there's nothing else I can think of other than calling Zune tech support - is it within a year of you purchasing it? Maybe you can try a hard reset, which restores it to the firmware it came with originally. I'll post those in a separate message.

I just bought a Zune 30 for my wife. I got the same problem. I just tried the hard reset and its going right back to the Firmware update screen... Any other idea's? It worked fine the first boot before the update.

I have a question why is it when i sync new media onto my zune i lose the media that i previously synced for example i put on a movie and then deleted the movie off of my computer when i put another movie on it removed the previous movie why is that do i have to keep all my media on my computer that i have on my zune?
The Zune desktop software keeps your Zune in sync with your PC...which unfortunately means that if you delete movie off the PC, it gets deleted off the Zune. There's no real way around this unfortunately other than to delete the partnership and then re-connect only as a guest.

The cradle is just a sync cable with a dock, so either one will work.

Somehow, the hardware on the new Zunes doesn't support an EQ, and doing it in software would kill the battery quick. So there's no EQ.

If you have the big font, you're running the old 1.x firmware and your device isn't up to date. Download the new desktop Zune software, install it, then connect your Zune and get updated.

I love my 30GB zune, and now even more that i was able to put games on it, the screen is prefect for that, and i like the new menu a lot more than the old one.

when you download a movie onto a zune should I see blocks in the dark areas of the movie or should it be more clear?

That really depends on the video codec you chose, the bit rate, etc. If you convert it to h.264 at about 800 kbps, the quality should be quite good.

No, I can't convince you - the iPod Touch is more like a PDA that also plays music and videos, and the Zune is strictly a media player. You have to decide which you want more. :-)

No, the Zune 30 can't play MPEG4 video - it's a hardware limitation. You need to get a new Zune to get MPEG4 video playback.

Yup, the Zune 30 is a good deal, as long as you're cool with the size. The Zune 80 rocks, but it is more expensive.

well the Ipod may be thinner but it takes up around the same amount of space in the pocket you know? the 80 is great I just don't need that much space and they're mad cheap on ebay. do you think refurbished will be ok? or should i just get a new one?

Yes, this is how you do a hard reset: Hold Back + Up; then immediately on restart hold Back + Left + Center.

Hey man I have a serious problem! I dont know how bad it is. I had my zune connected in USB mode and I was adding music and I accidentaly disconnected it while it was transferring and now my zune wont turn on! Please help!

Then you either have a bad USB port on your PC, a bad cable, or maybe a bad Zune. The best thing to do is to try to connect it on another PC and see what happens.

Well, there's a one year warranty on the Zune, so if it's within the one year warranty, you can get it repaired. I suggest calling Zune tech support at 1-877-438-9863.

Damn. Well, there's nothing else I can think of other than calling Zune tech support - is it within a year of you purchasing it? Maybe you can try a hard reset, which restores it to the firmware it came with originally. I'll post those in a separate message.

Here are some instructions for a hard reset written up by onlydarksets: 1. Press and hold the back button 2. Press up until it reboots 3. Then start pressing and holding the center "OK" button and pressing left on the control pad (you have to do step 3 when the screen goes blank but before the reboot process actually starts)

I just bought a Zune 30 for my wife. I got the same problem. I just tried the hard reset and its going right back to the Firmware update screen... Any other idea's? It worked fine the first boot before the update.

I have a question why is it when i sync new media onto my zune i lose the media that i previously synced for example i put on a movie and then deleted the movie off of my computer when i put another movie on it removed the previous movie why is that do i have to keep all my media on my computer that i have on my zune?

The Zune desktop software keeps your Zune in sync with your PC...which unfortunately means that if you delete movie off the PC, it gets deleted off the Zune. There's no real way around this unfortunately other than to delete the partnership and then re-connect only as a guest.

Yes, that's correct. You'll have to manually manage your Zune in guest mode, but it shouldn't delete your stuff.

Go into SETTINGS > DEVICE then, when your Zune is connected, click on FORGET THIS DEVICE - and that should do the trick.
