Racial profiling is nothing new and its widespread. In Japan, for instance, Arab- looking men are asked with no probable cause for their alien registration card all the time. If they don't have it on them they could spend a night or two in jail even though requesting ID for no good reason (suspicion) is illegal in Japan.
