  • and......where are the feet? oh yeah they are running of your voice? hehehe

  • video recording miss the foot action and become mere lecture without action.

  • summary: strike your ankle on the floor till you break them

  • Yeah the reason people get injured is from heel striking. You will run "pain free" if you land on your mid foot, this will also make you a faster runner. This lady obviously is not a good runner because any good runner knows that a mid foot strike is the best.

  • *shape

  • COMPLETELY WRONG! Watch any marathon runner, they land approx middle of foot and roll to ball of foot. Your heal should never hit the ground. Never heal strike. Sore calves and shin splints are like any other workout pains, signs your out of shaoe

  • I started giggling when she said "proper heel strike"

  • Where did you learn that?¿ What you say is what you have to avoid!! Heel strike is really bad for you, specially for the knees. I'm gonna flag this video, since it's giving a bad advice. And people starting to run, please look for more videos, and you'll see what is correct.

  • I think the best advice is to run whatever way is comfortable for you. For one, don't ever "strike" the pavement! Rule of thumb (toe): relax and don't worry too much about what your feet are doing unless you're getting shin splints, etc.

  • The fact that you phrase it as a heel-toe STRIKE belies the shallowness of the knowledge given here.. You should not be STRIKING the pavement unless you want to cause injury. Run gently for the least strain, and don't adhere to all these pedants trying to tell you the RIGHT way to run. Humans evolved from tree-swingers to the most competent long-distance running animal ON THE PLANET. African hunters can run for DAYS without "heel-toe". I'm pretty sure you can figure out your gait for yourself.

  • They're running. They're not in Marching Band.

  • Wow. Terrible advice. LOL. Is this chick serious?

  • heel strike?? you're really misleading here

  • um did she say proper heel to toe? its terrible for your entire body

  • I run from heel to toe and that shit is painful and energy consuming..this lady be trolling.. I'm working on my technique and it's sad how this came up.

  • heel to toe? are u serious....

  • Oh. I might add, go watch Ryan Halls video on foot strikes. He's the fastest american marathoner and he sure as hell doesn't run how this lady runs. He runs correctly.

  • Not very bright. I've been using Vibrams now since July. Easily run 8 miles several times a week and more and haven't gotten any shin splints, because I run now with midfoot/ball landings. I used to get shin splints all the time, so I know what will work for me. So don't listen to her. Run how you feel is good for you. Only you can figure that out. Not some random lady on YouTube.

  • i like the confused look on her face when she starts talking about tight calves and shin splints. it because she has no clue what shes talking about. shin splints are cause from heel strike.

  • I think this was a strategy for her to get more views. All her videos are horrible, I'm sure she did so for the views and comments.

  • Damn it, so heel striking is wrong after all. I was so stupid I followed this stupid video, although I strike forefoot naturally.

  • This is a joke right? Is Simon Bartold behind this?

  • Comment removed

  • I run heel to toe but still have shin splints :(

  • She's the person that walks a marathon and tells her friends she "ran a marathon". This lady is a total dolt. In fact, the heel strike is what will cause shin splints due to the contracting of the muscle when on the toes and the sudden heel strike while the muscle is contracted.

  • BULL SHIT !! You run on your toes !!

  • Dangerous advice!!! Midsole strike not letting you foot extend beyond your hips.

  • Oxymoron of the year: "Proper heel strike". How about "Pleasant plague"?

  • This information is totally wrong. There are videos posted on youtube from actual sports-medicine doctors saying the exact opposite.

  • it will damage your shins ridiculously! silly lass...

  • I see every one saying shes wrong and nobody telling any one how to do it right... If your going to trash these statements, do me and everyone else a favor and tell us how to do it properly...

  • @ryan1991622 First of all it's "you're" not "your" dumb fuck.

And second of all, you do not lead with the heel or the toe, you land with the middle of the foot.

Now that you know, you should run like her and have fun with it.

  • @GreatBlueKnight Its youtube. I could care less about proper grammar. But thanks your the only one commenting that's helping anyone.

  • ***WRONG WRONG WRONG*** Take this video down. Should be titled "How to Injure Yourself Quickly" or "Best Way to Get Shin Splints"

  • One of the first Youtube videos where I completely agree with all the comments. This video is like something from an alternate universe. Do not do this.

  • fail...

  • ALSO put rocks in your running shoes you will get a better grip on the road THIS IS FROM AN EXPERT GUYS

  • she looks like rebecca black

  • heel strike causes the shin splints!! remove this.

  • Heel striking is the cause of injuries!!!!! This woman literally has no idea what she is talking about.

  • No one else these days says recommends landing on the heel. Take a look around the subject on the web - don't take my word for it.

  • No one else these says recommends landing on the heel. Take a look around the subject on the web - don't take my word for it.

  • Expert?? REALLY? Expert of n00bs, that's what she is, please do not follow her advice. She is absolutely full of shit, heel strike will only get you injured. WOW

  • Stupid woman! She is hurting people!!!! Please do not run like this. It's horrible. She is a liar!!!!

  • This woman is NOT an expert. She is clearly only good for one thing and I think we all know what that is. DO NOT FOLLOW HER ADVICE!!

  • DO NOT FOLLOW HER ADVICE ON HEEL TO TOE RUNNING. THIS IS WRONG (OUTDATED INFORMATION)!!! YOU'LL HURT YOURSELF IN THE LONG RUN AND CUT YOUR RUNNING LIFE EARLY.

  • expertvillage's standards for 'experts' is if you want to pretend to be an expert, or probably know somebody at the company, then you're accepted.

  • heel strike causes shin splints. and calve issues are from people who don't know how to gradually work into the proper forefoot strike.

    what the fuck.

  • She should quit her day job. Is she serious?!

  • She should quit her day job. Is she serious?!

  • wow, is she for real? how many patients is she getting for the orthopedic surgeon by teaching running in a manner that will maximize injury?

  • WHAT ???? ''Strike with your heel first and then with your toes '' ???????????? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO .......................

Please Lady , do everyone a favor and delete your videos .

  • Well at least people will still learn from the comments of this video!

  • I ran heel to toe for about 1 and 1/2 years up until I suffered a stress fracture in April. Once I get back to running in July, I'm going to start running with Vibrams and run from ball to heel. I've been doing extensive research on running and training because I want to run in college, but I still need to shave off a couple minutes to be able to do so. Through research, I figured out that all my injuries I had received which constantly slowed down my improvement came from heel to ball. RESEARCH

  • expertvillage has no experts

  • This must be a joke.

  • there's a reason you've seen a lot of people running up on their toes........it's a LOT less damaging than running on your heels. To all new runners watching this, I'm sorry for this lady's stupidity but don't run this way. Look at a midfoot strike if you're interested in running without tons of nagging injuries

  • dumb bitch. get out

  • Expert Village? More like Village Idiot.

  • I am a runner and towards the beginning of my career i ran heel toe and suffered from so many injuries i can't even list them, but i altered my stride to mid foot or toe running and now i run with no pain and injure free. This video is wrong she has it backwards. Heel to Toe ruins legs and mid foot or toe running is the absolute best form it has been scientifically proven.

  • Huh? This mut be a joke.

  • She's on crack

  • I flagged this video due to "damaging activities"! Because of people teaching this running technique to me at an early age my knees are now permanently worn out. Don't let this "expert" ruin your body!

  • This is unbelievable, why the hell are you telling people to run this way? You dont even know why you are saying what your saying, cause if you did, you wouldnt say anything at all.

  • OH NOEZ CALF SORENESS. fool.

  • i cant believe people run like this

  • complete bullsh...

  • Don't try this at home!

Everything she is telling is absolute bullshit!

Rather go barefoot as nature intends or watch out for POSE-running...

  • Sweetheart, are you off your rocker? You couldn't be more wrong, you are 'expert' village? Expert at what exactly? Being the village idiot?

  • fail

  • Did I just watch an idiot give advice?

  • How much herp can a herp derp herp if a herp derp could herp derp?

  • This is wrong - just look up the Harvard Professor on youtube - "barefoot professor"

  • Youtube should ban expertvillage! They are leaders in spreading misinformation! They don't even have a disclaimer. Lot they don't even show her feet in this video. Amateurs!

  • Hilarious.

  • This is supposed to be a video about a running technique.

There is no f ing running in this video and not even her own foot she is looking at and talking to is shown. Go write an article!

  • Comment removed

  • so i should flag this?

  • running on youre heel causes shin splints because the muscles in the shins are still flexing while you hit the ground. u wouldn't dare to run on your heals if your were not waring shews, its not natural at all. find out how you naturally run with out footwear and stick with it wearing a minalist shew.

  • for some reason it doesn't allow me to copy and paste a link.

just search under "Ryan Hall Back to Basics (running and training advice)" and you'll see it.

  • Is this woman insane?

check out Ryan Hall Back to Basics (running and training advice) for proper running technique. youtube.com/watch?v=82ghOr78FcU

  • @benrosri

Your link doesn't seem to work?

  • people says "she is wrong" but why dont you say how to do it right? For all beginners.. you should stay on the ball of the foot.

  • @PaintTheSilence94

you should LAND on the ball of the foot.

  • Following this advise will cause shin splints and knee injury.

  • what 'expert' is this?

    she is WRONG!

  • REMOVE THIS VIDEO NOW! this lady is giving wrong information! she is going to get people hurt

  • yeah she's wrong lol run on your balls of your feet to prevent shinsplints...

  • I have had knee problems for last 12 years and haven't been able to run much. I changed to barefoot style 2 months ago (toe to heel), and I got rid of all my knee problems.

  • you should number these maybe

  • heel to toe strike. if you want back pain.

  • Heel to toe strike? This is exactly what I was doing before being forced to quit running for 2 years because of back pain. Until the day I started to run barefoot...

I will never wear one of those joint killing modern running shoes again!

  • OMG! Use the brain please!

  • guess she's one of those "no pain no gain" people. worst advice ever.

She'll be cripple by the time shes 40 if she keeps that up.

  • :O

  • yeah running heel toe is great.........if you like knee and hip pain......what a retard!!!

  • the part of the foot hitting the ground first is really not that important, what matters is where the foot makes contact in relation to the body's center of mass...... I can't believe how nuts people are going about the proper forefoot striking technique...you can land on your heel and still absorb most of the impact through the midfoot

  • @bezumnik

When you strike the ground with the heel, at the center of mass, you have just stifled your forward momentum. When it come to pace, foot strike and placement is crucial. Heel striking is never efficient, not even in walking.

  • @bezumnik There is no way you kan do that. Only thing that drives you to you midfoot after a heel strike is your momentum. So, you heel strike, glide to your midfoot-forefoot, and push of (efficient?). Impact is absorbed in your knee and hip, no absorption in ankle .

  • worst advice ever.

  • your shortcut for leg injury,

  • not only is she retarded....but she's obnoxious too....what a terrible video

  • yeah....holy shit. this is horrible information. just wrong.

  • Expert Village has officially lost its credibility.

  • I see this shit is still here. What you want to do when you are running is run the way you are naturally predisposed to run.

    what a load of shit..............

    :-)

  • This video is a joke...right???

  • I would break my leg in half if I ever tried running like this.

  • damn almost believed her if I didnt read comments

  • THIS IS 100% FALSE,Try running with out shoes on your heel. Its not going to happen. Most talented African Runners Like HAILE have a pure natural Ball of the foot running gait

  • dumb bitch

  • videos like these are the reason of knee injuries

  • This lady is Stupid, heel to toe, do you actually know what your talking about, bitch!

  • Fantastic!! Another example of how ExpertVillage seem to feature videos of the least competent individuals in their respective fields of 'expertise'.

  • This is the only person I have seen who is suggesting heel striking. Nike must be paying her.

  • "I know that sounds funny!" :D :D :D

  • ive been running heel to toe and now my left ankle right shin and hips hurt but that was long before this vid YEA!!!!!! Brownman28 for life

  • Allow you to run longer distances more comfortably with a heal to tow stike? Are you KIDDING me? Heal to toe is like putting on the BRAKES with every step, damaging your back, hiops and knees on each strike. This woman is a danger to beginning runners and this video should be BANNED.

  • this lady is dumb as hell. i use to run heal to toe, and got horrible shin splints. after improving my form tocrunning on the balls, the pain went away

  • who cares about injuries? Just move the god damnit ass, and win the competition

  • this video and this womans attitude makes me very angry

she is acting like some kind of an expert, when in reality she doesn't know what she is talking about!!!!

this is serious bad misinformation that could injure people

  • I flagged this video. This is very bad advice that will lead too knee injuries

  • Do not follow this womans advice!!!

  • I coach a female runner who runs heel toe who came to me today complaining of knee problems!! Heel Toe puts excess pressure on the knee!!! I have been working with this girl to land just behind the ball of her foot.

  • Everything said in this video is completely WRONG. I run marathons. If you take this womans advice then you will suffer many twisted ankles until you permanently wear out your knees!!

  • that's worng. plz dont follow those advices

  • THIS VIDEO IS NOT CORRECT!!!!! Why does this personthink she knows what she is talking about?

  • If you want to be injured do what this lady is saying. Bad advice. Take video down to avoid more embarrassment.

  • I`d strike this chick anytime

  • wrong advise... telling this is dangerous for the health of anyone who believes this... very irresponsible!!

  • What in the world is this?! EVERYONE knows that striking the heel brakes the body AND causes SHIN SPLINTS and other injuries. This is wrong, wrong, WRONG!

  • WRONG!!!!!!

  • Dont run on toes, but land on forefoot.

  • lol, is she kidding???????????? or what!!!??

  • actually shes right

  • Sorry but I changed my technique so I land on the balls of my feet and not my heels. They same technique when all humans run with barefeet. As a result I've had no injuries. Landing on my heels always gave me shin splints, pull calf muscles sore knees so in my personnel opinion heel striking doesnt work, not for me anyway!

  • You can get shin splints from forefoot striking, as i have, but you just have to work up to long distances. However heel striking is multiple leg injuries waiting to happen!

  • Is this satire?

  • Wow.

    What a crock.

  • I wonder how many wrong advice did I take so far. Good thing that I haven't seen this one earlier.

  • Surely this chick is taking the piss!! Anyone needing some real advice please DO NOT watch this shit!!!

  • @mrcelite - Your comment made me laugh! You're absolutely right and your words are great. I've just started undoing the bad habits such as heel strike and it is making a world of difference in my running.

  • This video sucks... you should quit your day job

  • this is the worst advice i have ever heard. i'm a freshman in high school and i know that this i wrong. when u heel strike the pressure from your landing is shot back up your leg at 2 times the strength. this will cause shin splints plantar fachiaitus. anybody who watches this video should disregard it completely.

  • fivefingers negate any value from this video

  • fuck expertvillage

  • Wrong again bitch

  • she said injury free...what a joke..follow her program better get a foot doctor

  • Is she joking?

  • Wow, I cant believe expert village still has this video up. Hahahaha "what you wanna do when you run is hit your heel ahead of your body slowing you down and sending tons of force through your body"

  • Take this down, it's all wrong.

  • She's nuts................

  • Comment removed

  • Heel strike gave me runners knee! I now run on my toes without problem

  • Which side are you on?

I know that Mid foot-forefoot is best.

You are stating that stronger calfs prevent shinsplints?

I would agree. Also if you touch mid foot or forefoot, the tibalis anterior

muscles can't be contracted. They are contracted when you

heel strike, because the foot has to be dorsi flexed.

Your comment came after mine so I was wondering if

you were commenting on my statement. Just I am more of an ignoramus,

    than an idiot. Take care

  • Good advice, and she looks like she can run, not like most of the haters commenting. Most of the haters, if not all, are FAT, LAZY, KNOW IT ALLS, who have never done any real running and never will because they are lame.

  • Comment removed

  • @barra567 like you? You have no idea what you are talking about. BTW...I have been running for 17 years. I am not fat and lazy. You are definately not a runner because if you were, you would know this is the wrong way to run. Your just a troll tryingto start trouble. This will be my last post to you...I dont care what your reply is.

  • Comment removed

  • The fact that she calls it a strike tells you the aggressive and harmful nature of the technique. Running should be fluid and smooth, not sharp and jarring.

  • calf strength keeps away shin splints idiot

  • @cal011316 lol

  • @cal011316 Who were you replying to with this statment?

  • @58Herm "expert" village

  • All of the videos which advocate mid-foot/forefoot strike stat why mid-foot/forefoot strike is better.

I would like to be objective: please tell me why the heel-toe strike is better.

When you strike with the heel, you apply a braking force that slows your momentum and sends a shockwave up your shin.

    Where am I wrong?

  • Issues with the calves? How about strength in the calves? And my shin splints were A LOT worse with heel-striking. In the case of running technique, natural is just better than artificial.

  • How could you like dis?

  • The thing with heel/midfoot running is this: When you land on your midfoot (or forefoot) you have to involve your calves muscles, wich results in a much better shock absorbing motion and protects your knees. The probles is those muscles are not too big, and they become tired much easier than your thigh muscles. Now, when you run "heel landing" you don´t involve your calves muscles, get less tired but get way more impact tranferred to your knees...This is two sides of the coin.

  • yeah how about we strip butt naked and you get to run 10km with your heel strike and i get to run 10k with my forefoot strike ? no animal on the planet runs on his heels, my dog doesnt or my cat, why should i do it ?

  • This is opposite of POSE running and/or ChiRunning. Who is correct? Have your say.

  • The pained look on her face tells me she does not agree with what she is saying. Or maybe that is her dumb face and she actually believes the word coming out of that hole in her head that somebody does to insert her foot in. Running on your toes causes shin splints, really!?!?! How about heel striking causes shin splints because you have to lift your toe to heel strike.

Land on your forefoot and use your calves as springs like they were intended. Do no use your bony heel ad a shock absorber!

  • This woman is telling you exactly what you shouldn't do. Change the title of this video lol.

  • TAKE THIS VIDEO OFF!!! Heel striking and wearing padded running shoes is the reason why shin splints occur and other leg related injuries!!!!!

  • She must be a doctor trying to drum up new clients.

  • This video must've been filmed by the multi-billion dollar athletic shoe industry who want you to keep buying their $120 motion-controlled pieces of junk which promote bad form such as the heel-strike.
