  • So much is always commented about the lead singer, but I just love the distinctive guitar sound. Don't get me wrong, I was amazed that they weren't bigger with a frontman that good, but really, the rest of the band deserves some props too.

  • Nunca me canso de ouvir essa música.

  • jim morrison ?

  • Keeps my alive!

  • Billy Duffy, I love you.

    CFFC!

  • Damn...I Luv this song. Bad ass cut to dance to.

  • MrAnderson10000 - it's because it is a GREAT song!

  • LES WARNER es el mejor batero que tuvieron!!!

  • seen them live in the 80s pre large venue days then at hammersmith this band does kick ass

  • Cool. It's good...just downloaded the full album from downloadmusic.im

  • he looks younger here than he did in 85? wierd!!!!!!

  • i like this version better than the more rockin' version

  • 5 idiots didn't like this!

  • Amazing voice, amazing group. Cult is my favorite band. Ian, Billy forever

  • oh the heads that turn make my back burn ;

  • Yes, this world, i.e., human society, does drag one down. I often sing this song to myself when I can´t stand any more of it.

  • This song is fucking

    very good

  • Song is too slow. Drummer needs to pick up the tempo. *sigh*

  • why does the singer drifts away so far from its original melody?....the power of this song is the singer!!!!! this is in my opinion a lame version of ..........sorry rockers....

  • @basmikiemike yeah you r so right..i cant stand that

  • Fantastic song...and venue

  • Comment removed

  • who was on drums ?? Nigel ??

  • @FLORENT2222

Nigel died in the early 90s due to drug related issues. The Cult have John Tempesta playing for them now.

  • @FLORENT2222 In this video, it's Les Warner. Les was their drummer from 1985 (following Nigel Preston's ejection from the band and Mark Brzezecki(?)) recording the Love album) until the Electric touring was done and the band was ready to start recording Sonic Temple. IIRC, he left the band on rather poor terms.

  • Saw the Cult in Roanoke V.A. in 1988,yhey were the opening act for Metallica that night.and man let me tell you it was a awesome concert the guitar player Billy Duffy for the cult was kick'n-ass that night, was a great night in Roanoke V.A. that hot summer night, will never forget it either !! CSC/10 in Lynchburg V.A. (U.S.A.)

  • i think Ian had so much sex that he was tired by the time he got to the stage. Great singer but he so often shortens the notes

  • @robi2000 I dont know about the sex part but the second sentence is totally true

  • He is only the BEST of the best....

  • FUCKING GOOD!!!!

  • mostroxx1 electric and sonic temple are parts of his downard spiral? grow a litle not everybody can be the cure or sisters of mercy and still live on the fuckin 80

  • the sparkle in your eyes

  • Keeps me alive, Keeps me alive

  • yes!!!!

  • This speaks for itself! Exciting, raw and mystical! Brilliant (music-) time those days!

  • Billy IS a rock n roll guitar star!

  • ok,i like heavy thrash metal and for some reason i like this song

  • Quite frankly, how can a band could continue to play a song that has nothing to do with the original version.... once again, since Preston was not on drums the Cult began its own downward spiral.... Now both Ian and Billy are trying to recruit or even clone a Preston drummer.... Good Luck !!!!!!!!!

  • your a fuckwit!!!!!!!!

  • you guys can all shoot off about drugs and this and that but I think this slow version sounds wicked.. you want the version you want go listen to the cd version idiots

  • I don't dig how he cuts his notes short when he sings. Which basically means, he can only sing well in the studio.. Rest of the bound sounds great though

  • @meinLiebsterFeind You've obviously NEVER seen them live and have no idea what you're talking about! Ian Astbury is one of, if not THE BEST frontman of any band!

  • awesome hollow body. great stuff man. name me someone who reminds you of jim morrison more?

  • saw em in bradford bout the same time they were awesome

  • this is from the german (bavarian) live monday tv show called: LIVE AUS DEM ALABAMA.

I worked this one and about 300 others.

I was a music redakteur...editor...responslible for the live bands.

    great time it was...

    SandyDSF

  • kickass

  • look the video up on google video, it's the clip with the purple backgroud and guy whereing the hat.

  • where have all the music videos gone?

did WMG kill the video star?

  • Hey!!!

    that's right!!!!

where is the video where he dances in white outfit and headband?

    Was it removed ?

    if so.............

    WHY???????

  • I first heard the song in a swimwear commercial about 25 years ago, and since then I got all their albums. One of the greatest bands in rock history!

  • i love this song, its in a movie called layer cake, fucking good song?

  • Love this song...that shuffley little tap dance he used to do!..anyone know where that video is of him with the headband doing that dance ...and with him not so 'off his face'??

  • its the She Sells Sanctuary Music Video. just search for it on Youtube

  • Duffy looks alot like Billy Zoom of X

  • Ian looks like he is having trouble keeping it together. I know he drank to excess, but he did H too right? I mean, he is on H in this video, or some downer. There is Holy Barbarian footage where he looks high too, and another member of the ban says that he is on heroin. How long has he been clean, anyone know?

  • Who is better then this guys?

  • LOVE THE CULT! They always gonna rules!

  • Long live the Cult! but this is just sad to watch, Ian is so fucked up his eyes are rolling back in his head and he just stops singing in the middle of a already sketchy song! He and the drummer are both too hi on H.

  • Agreed. This is Heartbreaking to see Ian and Nigel like this. Ian looks like he HATED the drug- as well he should. Good thing he gave all that shit up for good, shortly thereafter. Too good muscians, the Cult are for that abuse of themselves.

  • Heard yesterday that the bass player is now singing religious songs!

  • Can anyone upload the album version? Thanks so much!

  • I think Ian is too fucked here to sing! He's in lala!

  • I have to agree, Les, really brought the sound and as you said color, to complete their sound. He was a huge part of the entire package.

  • I liked Les Warner's drumming very much at this era of the Cult. Great sense of groove and great use of color. He added alot and gave life to these songs. If you ask me he played better than Matt Sorum. TJMO

  • another amazing song from the cult...just excelent...

  • this drummer is Lez Warner, played also on the Electric album

  • Eremite,

This drummer died. After this one they had Les Warner, Matt Sorum en so on.I think only the dreamtime-album was drummed by the one you see in this vid.For the love album he was to drugged out?

  • Thanks Tigerini!

If you're referring to Nigel Preston I was already aware that he kicked the bucket. I was commenting on the blonde fellow above which I take it is Les Warner. He seems to fit right in.

  • In 1984 - it was Nigel Preston. He died in the 90's by drugs yes.

In 1985 - they had another drummers they used for the album and one of them in the She Sells Sanctuary video. The rain video is probably from the spring of 85', cause there they got Les Warner, wich is on this video.

    THATS IT!

  • hes not fucking singing.

  • Oh Yes, it does keeps me alive!

  • YES,YES,YES,YEEEESSS!!!!!!!!

  • They sing this a little slower than in most concerts here ... but I likey!

  • Awesome!!!

    I dig the psychedelic intro

  • The drummer should have stayed with the band.

  • Ya I agree. The drummer from Big Country had to finish the Love album. Then Nigel (the original drummer) died in 1991. Sad.

  • this is awesome... The Cult rules.... thanks 4 sharing this!!!

  • I miss Billy's platinum pompadour!

  • Billy's hair was so cool then!

  • very clean and clear vintage footage. many thanks for this.

  • Sanctuaaaaaaaaaryyyyyyy...

    I love you Ian!!!

  • Great live version and really good sound, thanks for the post

  • The sparkle in Ian's eyes keeps ME alive! ;-)

  • what a great song! tnhks for sharing
