Someone please tell me because I have no idea why 306 owners bother getting 150/160bhp out of a 12 yearold 90/110bhp HDI from uprated injectors, bigger FMIC, screwed fuel pump, bigger turbo and remap when the money they waste on that could buy them a 1.9 TDI with 150bhp as standard. Whats the point? Its stupid. Its only got a five speed gearbox. You get all that dieselly pull and as soon as you hit the end of fifth gear thats your fun over with. Why not get a stock six speed diesel?
@1ns4ne1d10t i presume you mean the vag tdi? ill tell you why. its because pd diesels are noisy, harsh, laggy pieces of shit. ive driven all manner of tdi's in various vw, audis, seats and ive yet to come across one thats is as remotely smooth as a hdi. you go watch vag diesel vids mate, leave the best diesels to the french ;-)
@mikeys205 You say that but I had a work mate who had a modified 306 HDI 90 running 150bhp, for a while it seemed fine up to a point then it kept on breaking down and blowing up because 150bhp on a 90bhp engine was showing the strain. In the end the internals gave up the fight and he had to scrap it. It doesn't matter how superior you think those HDI's are they will only put up with so much, just get yourself a proper 150bhp diesel and forget about modding these.
@mikeys205 150bhp PD engines have strengthened con rods, revised cylinder heads and a strengthened crankshaft. They are purposely built by VAG for a 150bhp output. These Peugeot HDI engines are not, they are only made for 90/110 outputs. That means the engine, the gearbox, the flywheel and anything else around it is not purposely built to cope with 150bhp. Thats why they are smoking like coal chimneys, they might be going some but they clearly aren't happy with the power.
@1ns4ne1d10t i beg to differ thanks, go look up the derv doctor, i know he had a 306 hdi with over 200bhp and 300lbft of torque on standard internals and that was happy for years like it. and a german pd diesel isnt a proper diesel either. they have there weak points, more so than the hdi.
@mikeys205 I know PSA made a V10 HDI but that was only in Lemans motorsport but all the other HDI production engines only go up to 6 cylinders. VAG make PD and CR engines that range from 3 cylinders all the way to 12 and PSA don't and you call them "Better" then VAG's engines? With all due respect they don't have a patch on the Germans for diesel superiority and yes they do have weak points but so do PSA but that doesn't mean PSA are any better.
