  • awesome, thanks for the vid!!!

  • Yes its great that someone is developing this kind of tech but 950$ for something which real price is about 10$ is too much

  • @Dragonmk188,

I hear you... but this interview was from CES 2009, so the price has come down considerably.

As for the real price, flexible solar panels that are still modestly efficient are quite a bit more expensive to manufacture than standard, rigid crystalline solar cells.... quite a bit more since the same economies of scale don't come into play.

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • Price? and how much electricity a square meter produce?

  • I am interested in the rollable units for keeping my comms up and running because of their durability. But how durable are they really? Can they withstand repeatedly being shoved into a pack with other items mushed up against them? I need to know if these are tough enough? Would the foldable units be a better choice for carrying in a pack?

  • You have me EXTREMELY fascinated... How efficient are these "cells" (I would probably call them sheets) What material is printed (?) on these sheets? I don't think that conventional silicon crystals could really be put on this... Soo many questions... Please answer!!!

  • These are great... I know of a couple of guys in the armed forces that use the 4xAA version......... it's good kit

  • Rebecca: The flexible solar panels are very much needed and desired in the marketplace. Unfortunately the M.S.R.Price is grossly out to lunch and kills the interest of many. Hopefully your company will find success in the future and may I suggest you dedicate your advertisements directly to the wealthy. Thanks.

  • $950 for that piece of paper?!

This technology should be FREE, incorporated everywhere possible and sponsored by the government!

  • why not overlay that things on cars, the roof and/or chassis? would save battery power in e-cars!

  • @Keytaster Yes and your car will cost about 1 mil

  • @Dragonmk188 perhaps, but Mercedes already did that partially in the new Smart concept... and do you remember the first DVD players? hundreds of dollars, now 20 or so. It would work out eventually. Anyway, it was just an idea :-)

  • Flexible Solar Panels are fantastic. They're extremely durable and have so may uses from camping, hiking, caravans, etc. Those with USB ports are great for charging mobile phones, iphone's, etc.

The cost is coming down making them within reach of most users. No gadget lover should be without one.

  • why are you even trying to sell them? save the money for the research instead of making the products for the consumer, I gurantee that no one (not literally) is going to buy them

  • falcon, A few things... 1. I'm not selling anything. I simply stopped by the booth at CES 2009. . 2. Save WHAT money? If they don't sell product, they have no money for the research. . 3. They've actually sold several thousand of these units. . 4. Are you really from Monta Vista High in Cali? I used to debate against Monta Vista and I loved the guys on your team! (I was at Bellarmine) . 5. Happy New Year! . Peace, Fr. robert
  • oh dude, what a stalker, well, ok, Happy New Year, *yes I am from MVHS

I am not in debate but still, it's really kind of retarded why there's such a market, seriously, who would think "this is going to be useful" when they buy the pannels? they just bought it because: it's the best out of the others, it's "green" (which may not be true at this level of production, idk the details), etc...

Until they can make it applicable in terms of at least cost & efficientcy, they shouldn't commercialize it

  • adding on to what I just said, I understand that industries may forced them to sell or something.... well, who cares, we can't change it so "I" shouldn't have started talking about it (this is what I don't see the purpose of SOME debates)

oh, and I wasn't referring to "you selling" as you in person, just the people who're selling them

  • Nice solar pannel it has a potensial for combining it with the telt?

  • Cost is not where it shold be. Cost is where they want it to be. Utility companies and oil companies aren't going to give in that easily. In fact they are in the process of buying control of the solar industry as we speak, mark my words they may win! If we let them.

  • 15.8$ for a single watt?, nobody will buy this,

i will post a video how to construct these at home from simple Titanium dioxide aluminium foil and dye fucking simple, THEY WANT TO MAKE BUSINESS FROM THIS TOO, WAKE UP PEOPLE<

  • They have a business from this. There is always some engineering drop-out willing to tell people they are stupid for not doing it themselves.

For anyone who doesn't want to go out and buy titanium foil, chemicals, & build a laminating machine, etc. The PowerFilm panels are the best flexible panels on the market. Use them for portable applications like charging laptops, cameras, iPods, AA charging, and other needs.

    ModernOutpost outlines these applications.

  • dude, I hate how people try to use technologies that are not there yet, I am making a few points here:

    1) Super expensive to make / to buy

    2) how often would people with computers go out on a sunny day just to recharge the battery, not to mention that it has to be intentionally exposed the whole time

    3) it's not applicable in practical terms, why not just save the money for further research?

    4) why not the drop outs just use solar dish for better cost and efficiency?

  • **** by not there yet, I mean the "flexible solar pannels" only, this doesn't not include for example silicon pannels, etc

  • What a clever lad you are falconBOY.

    1) Get a job.

    2) As often as people with lifes other than computers go camping, boating or hiking.

    3) Yes it is. Why not save your brain for further usage?

    4) Because solar dishes = thermal energy you numpt. These products are portable and not meant to power the earth or anything even remotely close to that. It's your tiny brain that's confused...

  • freaking idiot, do you just exist to attempt (but obviously always fail) to defeat other people's point? I can tell you're a fucking troll. Dude, please at least use common sense.

    1) Job --> Boy --> child labor?

    2) Wtf? yeah, it's nothing to do with anything

    3) Holy shit, it stopped making ANY sense.

    4) 1st part, ok, obviously. 2nd part, then why are we researching? OBVIOUSLY, we're trying to run the earth with solar energy.

Sorry about my tiny brain but you can't even read, so STFU

  • 1) What's funny is you connecting the dots with your subpar lateral skills actually thinking it was clever and witty.

    2) It does.

    3) It didn't.

    4) Not with this application we're not. Again - it's for portable usage only where thermal or wind is not an option, such as... [repeat the obvious for crippled mind]

  • uh, I didn't think I was "clever and witty." I was just saying that you mistakened me using a compact and brief way.

About the last point, GOOD, it's actually a good question / misunderstanding. People constantly try to replace other sources of energy harvestation with wind, sea waves, etc (which all derives from solar radiation & geothermal energy as of science today believed), well, certainly that it's currently for portable usage, but the goal is of course a complete replacement

  • How this has anything to do with me being able to rig an affordable foldable panel to my boat is beyond me.

    You've obviously got serious issues.

  • Too expensive for me! Cut prices to 50% and i will buy.

  • paint on soler panel come out with that

  • Do you make ball shaped sphere solar panels making it easier to catch solar light in all directions while driving.

  • 60 watts at $950!! and that was your best seller pfff how many did you sell... 3?

  • shabam87,

First, "I" didn't sell any... because "I" don't sell things. I simply produce an IPTV show about interesting technologies.

Second, new technologies are ALWAYS expensive. The first IBM PC was today's equivilant of $10k. The first series of laptops were underpowered $4k pieces of junk. The first high-performance Apple(the IIfx) was $12k. -- As the technology become commonplace, it becomes cheaper -- Reviewing it now is called FORESIGHT.

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • Yeah fair enouh, i would love to see it come down in price (quite a lot XD) and i would buy one.. thanks for the vid ;)

  • These produts are over priced. So are photoboltaic panels s well as most of the other prducts concering anything GREEN. Once agin big business is screwing us. They get millons in grants then turn around and pull this crap o us everytime. Rel cost a this time is less then fossil fuels don' let anyone tell you differently. Did the old company's post all time ernings over the past few years. So where's the real cost of fosil fuels? Thus where's te real cost of solar related products? Solar = less.

  • Exactly what I was thinking that thing cost more then many laptops.

    They probably sold 2

    howly cow

  • Those solar chargers seem a bit big JUST to get up to sixty watts. I would expect something like... At least two hundred watts.

I'll just wait patiently for the curved LCD interview. (If you have one)

  • Thank you Father Roberts! We really appreciate what you're doing. Keep at it!

  • i'd buy a computer with 950$, not a crappy Solar Panel

  • Axcelaration,

I understand the sentiment... but what will you do with the brand-new laptop after the battery dies? :)

    .

    Peace,

    Fr. Robert

  • you can always buy a couple extra batteries for 950$ xD

    :]

  • OMG I want that laptop charger, but $950 is not worth it.. unless you camp a lot

  • IHATEJOO,

You're right... $950 IS a lot, but prices will continue to fall. That's just the nature of the market -- in the meantime, it's great that some businesses are developing this kind of tech.

    .

    Peace, Fr. Robert

  • Your right. In a year or two this product will proberly be under $100.

  • @gadgettts

Is this the same as nano solar? And they've been making thin film solar for the past 20 years?
