umm.... in the west, they usually celebrate All Souls day, which is a christian holiday, to celebrate the deceased loved ones. it's the day after Halloween which got too commercialized especially in the USA and lost it's meaning. In Mexico, All souls day is a big event, especially in the Catholic church. That British guy doesn't know much of anything.
People in Japan who celebrate Obon do not actually believe in all this, it is just a tradition.
