If you like stuff like Hecker, Fennesz, Infinite Body, etc. check out some of my We Were Ravens material (nearly all of my material can be found on my channel) and let me know what you think!
There is nothing wrong with this song. It's just very calm. When I listen to it, I'm able to think straight. Right now im in college and the class is talking with each other. It's loud. Im listening to this and Everyone's voices fade out and I can focus. Finally.
I had a dream that Silent Hill wasn't made into a shitty movie. Instead it was actually done right and Tim Hecker did the soundtrack. Ok, i go back to sleep now.
It's funny watching the reactions of people who are not used to it. Always the same - "turn this crap off, it's depressing". How easy it is to make someone show how weak his character is, without a single word :D We've got much growing up to do before the majority will accept this is as broorno described it.
(that's a 100% accurate description right there, by the way)
It''s great to see so many different opinion on how ambient music evokes and resonates with every individual.Personally i don't there is a right or wrong way about listening to this or any other type of music genre.Whatever it makes you feel or provoke within you,is YOU.People, stop regimenting how a sound is MEANT to be.Just ENJOY! :)
do u guys think tim hecker's music is universally considered "sad" or depressive? Or is it cultural? I personally dont think it is "sad" , I just think it is emotional and calm. But 99% of people i ask say it is fucking depressive! haha
i think tim's music is just overly engaging for some people, despite how "simple" it may be. 99% of people (unintentionally) like their music vapid and dont want to handle such intense, unconventional sounds. his tracks can be pretty bleak, which may be interpreted as depressing to some... but i think it's beautiful how he can convey these transcendental feelings. feelings that are more physical than emotional.. like the sound of time stretching in nearly empty space
that's exactly why i like it, i want music to be emotional, giving me feelings and all, and depending on my mood i listen to diffrent styles. When it's about melancholy, nostalgy, meditation, sadness, tim hecker delivers, an not many can, for me at least. I think he's my favourite ambient music artist.
just for the record i listen to goa when i'm happy :))
@broorno True, also I think it echo's where he lived *he lived a couple blocks away from me* and we get onerous amounts of rain, its not sad or depressive at all, at least not my feeling, it feels like a reflective mood you get in the rain, when life around you slows down, and you just take everything in. Then again, music means something different to each and every person, we read what we want into it.
@broorno for me personally, Hecker's music is very inspirational. when i'm drawing and listening to his music it helps me untap a certain creativity that i otherwise wouldn't have. it's also really nice while driving at night. =)
@broorno I would suggest, that this music brings out every aspect of inner fears and regrets to the surfice, so you can transform them, instead of trying not to feel them and run away.
@lt1eg6 How would you know what others fail or suceed in subconsciously thinking of? The only mark you have is a behaviouristic which is generated by the act of expressing it. Perhaps you don't know what subconscious means (you double mispelled it)?
Broorno managed to express what I sometimes have a hard time to express.
@LogInAnders Apologies. I was typing on a phone while walking. I'm basing it through personal experiences. I used to reject listening to music like this as I felt at the time It had no structure, wheras I subconciously felt awkward. I grew up and I guess I developed my taste. You're right. Iam basing it according to my own experiences and seeing how friends react when I show them the likes of this. Their expressions turn to discomfort like you said and Immediatly express boredom.
@lt1eg6 Okay I wasn't trying to pick on you then. I guess we agree. Two years ago I would perhaps react the same way as you and I have also experienced how my friends find it boring. I remember opening the video and right away I was shun by this transcending feeling of being. Great that you enjoy it.
@broorno I agree! Tim's music is more about inhabiting a certain space and letting it flow over you. I wouldn't say it was "depressing" at all. More closely linked as a musical form of existentialism. "generally focused on the condition of human existence, and an individual's emotions, actions, responsibilities, and thoughts, or the meaning or purpose of life"
@Setherian everyone has their own ability to think and feel. It's the emphasis we place on to anything we perceive. Depressive is not something that comes to my mind personally when i hear any kind of music. And to those imaginary 99%, they are most likely unable to grasp the difference between sad and happy, as they are the same. Emphasis is all.
@Setherian To me, most of his songs are pretty happy. From this album, "Stags, Aircraft, Kings and Secretaries" sounds like the most pained and sad song.
@fakant not opposed at all to taking drugs and listening to music, but i just think (and i believe in this case it stands true) that to say you need to be high to enjoy certain music proves that there is something lacking in the music or it's just a comment on the person who is unable to enjoy anything unless they're fucked up
Glad you enjoyed it man! Harmonies is Ultraviolet is an awesome album. It is unfortunate that the quality sucks... the original clip has got some good resolution. .
