was god fair when forming gabbies looks in her mothers womb?..was gabby an exception?..why would god intentionally make her look like a gorilla?...she's proof god cannot exist
@simple2complex Yes on the dummy - I don't know where he - "and oprah" - got that information... No on making the invention of writing about race. Neither is it historically accurate nor relevant. Can't we just for a second celebrate that this guy, no matter if he's black or gay or brilliant or friends with oprah... still just said something rather stupid? Personally I love that.
Hey Lee Daniels, we're a classist society. What you make you any better? Make you not be classist? And honestly, good on ya for coming out at the end, but if gay men aren't one group to excel at celebrating classicism who is? Get a clue.
I received this novel in the mail today from Amazon, and started reading it on my way to school at about 3pm.... I am already half way through it. This book is RAW! A must-read! I honestly don't know how they will be able to truly depict what this girl goes through on film, but wow. I'm not a reader, mind you. I usually don't read books unless I'm forced to for school... Otherwise, I read magazines and the news. Absolutely stunning, stunning story.
@Boobalopbop They won't. The movie had to be 'sanitized' so it wouldn't get an 'X' or 'NC-17' rating. The book gives a far more graphic description of Precious's abuse and life than what an 'R'-rated movie is allowed to show. Also, the 'real' Precious is 6'4"-6'7" tall, 375-400 lbs., and has skin that matches new black clothes in department stores...far taller, heavier, and darker-skinned than Gabourey Sidibe.
@glennrickard1958 I saw the movie, and it was a solid rep of the book. I thought it was going to be too vanilla. Obviously, there would be a problem with casting women that look like precious and her mother in the book. In the book, the mother was even fatter than Precious. I'm glad I read the book before I saw the movie because I know exactly what those characters look like, and the woman that played the teacher is not AT ALL what she looked like in the book, well you know.. Hollywood.
Wow, that part at the end about being prejudice hit an honestly uncomfortable chord with me and I think the director too. The differences that separate a normal life and from that of Precious are less then most would like to admit, its just so much easier to look way and not care :/
What is difficult, is what they CAN'T talk about. And this is one of very rarely, if ever, the matter is talked about. Prejudice against 1) dark skinned 2)fat 3) women 4) poor, 5) teen mom 6) poorly educated.
Gabby Sidibe speaks so thoroughly and intelligently. After seeing clips from 'Precious', it's clear that she is NOTHING like her character. Can't wait to see this movie!

I don't think it's 89% either. Directors & Producers: big egos. They can't help it.

This guy is full of it. Where does he get his statistics. 89% not true. Don't perpetuate stereotypes to sell your film.

@glennrickard1958 well The Color Purple was a PG-13 rated movie - G rated compared to the X-rated book.
