I was third man on a three inch line years ago, with a one inch straight bore tip. The pump operator thought we had a fog nozzle on, and pumped 'er up accordingly. The weenie on the nozzle fell down and let go, and I got to crawl down the hose and shut it off. I'm glad I got to do it...once! Don't ever care to do it again. Besides...I'm to old now!! Keep safe out there brothers and sisters.
And I hate to say it, but hoses get dropped all the time on scenes, whether the PSI is to high, of the FF loses his grip, or stumbles and just drops it.Its not typically a big deal, especially since you usually have a backup guy just for that purpose. And you know what happens afterwards? The hse is picked up ,the PSI is lowered if needed, and the job continues.....
This is considered a close call video?A guy dropped a hose because the PSI was too high or hesimply lost his grip? This is horse shit. The biggest concern i have is that he wasnt wearing an SCBA and that a white hat was doing operations instead of commanding the scene ( whoknows though, a higher ranking white hat may have been there, or the white hat may have let a subordinate retain command )
that's what happens when a white helmet tries to do the job that us black helmets are supposed to be doing. There's no excuse for having no BA on. Come on! lead by example!
@outie131 its not a High Low, its a Powercall...first off powercall is the shit, and if you're gonna insult it, make sure you get the name of it correctly. High low is mainly used in europe
@yankees20820 <I agree Powercall is shit. Respect the fireman's song and use the damn Q ya yankee filth. Electronic siren on an American fire apparatus is just disrespectful. Bell/Sterling created their hand cranked mechanical siren in 1861, mounting it to horse drawn ladder/hose reels and was the first mechanical siren and that noise became unique to fire service and you fags with your duel wheelens and annoying powercalls make me sick.
@gnockergnutz sorry for 2 month delay...but i said "the shit" not shit. I'm not saying don't replace it with the Q...the Q and powercall together are awesome. search this video "manassas fire srtucture fire" yes structure is spelled wrong
It only takes a moment for a hand line to go rogue on you. It can happen the very moment you let your guard (attention), nozzle setting, or grip loose, for that matter. I see it can happen even when you're sporting the white helmet. Standing in a traffic lane, be sure to keep your eyes (and ears) open for approaching cars (they're looking at the fire, not the firefighter!). Be safe.
I can see the Highway crew knows what there doing more then the fire department. Shutting down the lane with out causing another accident that is related to the car that is on fire. Its also for the fire department and the crew that on scene if it was not for the highway crew shutting down the two lanes u would of not had a rough controlling traffic and trying to get the fire out.
@3034893118 Actually, as firefighters, our main concern there is our safety and the fire. Very rarely do we have any roll in traffic, thats more FIRE POLICE stuff, whole different grp of guys. :)
Hey please read this if you are a fire fighter or whatever.. im 14. and when i grow up i wanna be a fire fighter not because i like playing with firetrucks or because of the excitement. but i want to help people and i would like to do it as a career. i just wanted to know if you made money from it and if you do how much. also if you could give me any pointers that would be nice. and one more thing. if you do it for a career do you have to go to college because i want to go to college :).
@Emeriican I hope this isn't discouraging to you, but if you want to be a fire fighter, I wouldn't count on getting paid for it. Over 75% of the US is volunteer force. Most guys who go professional (paid), volunteer for years before getting the experience and credentials they need. A degree in fire science isn't going to hurt you, but it may not help you either. If you are "unfit for the job" and you have a PHD in fire science, (obviously that doesn't exist) you aren't gonna get the job.
@Emeriican Also... If you are really serious about jumping into the fire service, I would wait a couple of years, and start looking at some of you rural fire depts. Some have Cadet programs for people 16-18. You wont see live fire, but it is experience, and looks great on a resume. If you want to go to college, more power to you, however I would say to look at your future dept. hiring policy to see if it is required. Also...
@Emeriican I would plan on volunteering for a while. That means finding a job that will support you while you get experience fighting fire. (this is also something you should think about college for) I dont know where you are from, but here in Wyoming, we are over 90% volunteer. Most volunteer firefighters are equally, or better trained than the pros, so dont let that discourage you. If you have any more questions you can message me on youtube any time. I would be happy to help.
@Emeriican I understand fully what you are saying. I just wanted to tell you that the lines for proffesional firefighting jobs are sometimes thousands of people long, and they choose maybe 500 a year. I dont want to discourage you, if thats your dream, go for it. Just know what you can do, and more importantly what you cant do. I cant tell you how many people we have on my Battalion who made it through all the entrance, and training but couldn't breath from a mask.
@Emeriican Some people just cant handle some of the things we do on a regular basis. I was just saying if you really want to be a pro, you might think about volunteering for a while, before trying to get in on a pro dept. Oh, and dont let anyone tell you that Volly FFs arent real firefighters. Common sense should tell you that someone who runs into a burning building to save a life and doesnt draw a paycheck for it is more dedicated to the service than others. Just some stuff to think about.
@Emeriican And, one more thing, keep your nose clean. Never have I heard of a dept. (volly, or pro) that doesnt do a background check and interview before even letting you test. No felonies, No MAJOR trafic violations.
@jnimf@Emeriican its like that where im from too, idk if were 90% volunteer but we have very few paid stations most just have 2 or 3 full time guys with a few part timers and the rest are filled with, volunteers. Like you said even here in Ohio most of the volunteer guys are able to partake in the same training as the pros, and see alot of the same type of action. God Bless and stay safe
Ok as a Chief Officer you can debate all you want about where we should be or what we should be doing and there are many factors that decide that, some within our control and some not. But here is the bottom line, the lungs of any Chief Officer work the same as anyone else, if you are going to be involved in fire attack, two things, 1) remember you are a leader, lead by example 2) leading by example starts by having all your PPE on....enough said

ummm nozzle man has no scba or mask there is only one man on nozzle and is main reason why he dropped it witch can crack somebody's head open. how can the chief command from the front line? this is the most unorganized group i have ever seen.
1. Wrong! On Volunteer FD"s The Chief may be the only to respond, or have FF's not expierienced, or he may want to get out do some Firefighting. Command?? Its a vehicle not a 4 story structure or aircraft! You can always tell by the dumb comments who will never make it off the lowest end of the pay scale!
@RJBFIRECHIEF1 Yeah command. Just like he said. Where's the scene safety... Command officers need to always take a step back and oversee the entire scene, big or small... Let the ff put out the fire... Idiot!
Cut them a fkin break. I bet half of u havent got a clue wot its like to be a Firefighter. Accidents happen. The real person to blame is the owner of the car!!!!!!
@Plainmark i have a clue what being a fire fighter is like and its not easy. but if u are not able to be organized then you should not be working as a firefighter
This Fire department needs some more training on How to put a car fire the correct way how to arrive on scene like in this video the Police and fire, etc should be on the same side as where the burning SUV is and only one Police unit on the other side to help keep traffic moving
@3034893118 Who gives a damn if traffic keeps moving? It's not our concern if someone is late for work. And it's nice if you can be on the same side, but if it's going to take 10 minutes to turn around and come back on the same side it's perfectly fine to be on the opposite side. Especially if there is entrapment or medical assistance needed.
@ffjsb I worked with different agencies in different states and sometimes fire department but the thing is it helps to be on the same side as the accident and or the fire, etc. Here if i was a Motorist i would not wanna be driving in the lane next to it that a Burning car. For my safety i rather get over to a safer lane then the one lane. From what i see the high way department knows the rules and what their doing more then fire department, etc.
@3034893118 You probably have no idea exactly where this took place or what the local traffic conditions were at the time. So your comment that the FD needs to learn how to arrive on scene is based on nothing. The only fact that can be derived from this video is that the Chief should've not been on the nozzle.
@3034893118 why r u responding to me when this is not your video? I am talking to the owner of the video and that is not you. Because your screen name does not match what it says Uploaded by. I wanna hear from the owner of this video.
