NEAT!!!! love this video, ive been doing the same! bags full of things getting out of my house, feels even better than when you buy and buy, its like if air gets inside home and purifies everything. I still keep things like to re use them for exemple paper boxes, bottles, packages i can re use so idont buy it. recicling! and love giving things away!!! wonderful video.
Hello, Love your message in this vid! I want to introduce myself, I'm Andrea from Hawaii & we have so much of the same interests. I'm a 85% raw foodist & love beauty & love fitness & simpler cultures other than the American consumerism way. I've really been trying to simplify so this was good for me to hear. Its funny I originally found you months ago when researching retin a on youtube. Had no idea then that you were into all this great stuff! One question, are you still using retin A? Thanks!
For everyone else who is contemplating doing something similar, instead of wastefully throwing your items away, it's better to just use up the products and donate/give away the clothing. Also, for paper waste (such as old notebooks, homework, and old magazines), be sure to recycle. I'm going through a decluttering/purging myself and this is what's I'm doing.
Going through the bathroom cabinets are definitely liberating. I've just done that myself & rather than throw the stuff away, I donated a carload of hairsprays, gels I've never used, conditioner, fragrances, sweaters, jeans, makeup, nail polishes to a battered women's shelter. Women who walk away (or rather run) from lives of abuse w/just the shirts on their back & their kids. They have nothing! We <3 to girltalk about our hauls, makeup tips & we laugh. Their lives are so bleak & we CAN help! :)
Yes, we all try to fill the empty space we feel inside by buying and buying. As eternal spirit souls, we will never find what we're looking for in matter. We need to look to our eternal spiritual interests, not temporary distractions.
Sweetheart I think its amazing of you to giveaway some of your stuff.I know its not easy how attached we can become to things. You are such a inspiration!
I totally agree with you about letting go of things. I know I have been somewhat of a pack rat. I have been gradually letting go of the things that I don't love anymore, are out of date, or don't fit. My wardrobe is a lot smaller that it used to be, I am keeping the clothes that I love. A huge burden is lifted when I get rid of things. My hubby and I also live in a small house so we don't have much storage space. That is more of a reason why I don't accumulate more than I can handle. It
LOVE. love. love. "Letting Go" was basically the theme of today for me. You are so wise in posting this... I was just thinking today of how there are so many people out there that have NOTHING and we have a responsibility to help out.
We really don't need much :) Thanks for posting this and being such a great example
@misterludakris It is just about decluttering our lives. I think that's the point. Many "things" that we own were acquired because socially we feel that we must have them=) I see your point, but I agree with Liz a lot more=)
This was an awesome video, really inspirational. It's nice to see someone on youtube that isn't promoting buying more crap, and making a statement about what is really important in life. I think shopping is fun, but a lot of people spend time shopping because they don't have anything significant to do with there time. I believe in buying valuable things, but keeping it minimal.
Good for you Liz ! I do that to from time to time and I love it. I really believe that 75% of the things people have are " wants" and only 25% are "needs" . We just overspend and waste money on " wants" that we really don't need. I love the video and it makes me fell good to see somebody else thinking this way.
Spring cleaning and downsizing is always freeing. I've recently been looking into going raw vegan to see what it's all about, currently a vegetarian almost vegan :-). Thanks for sharing Liz.
@misterludakris someone's getting a little defensive. you aren't attached to anything more than you should be? sounds a little suspicious and hypocritical - perhaps even mental - to me. and in case you haven't noticed.. every video is about her. if you want to watch something about yourself, turn the camera onto YOU.
@misterludakris We are all entitled to our own opinions, but there is also a respectful way to go about sharing your thoughts/comments. Liz is doing the SAME thing you do... she doesn't have a use for something, so she is giving these items away. I don't really understand where your harsh, judgmental comments are coming from? You seem very confused, and you may not be "mental" but you sure as hell are RUDE.
I recently cleaned out my makeup stash. I had way too much I didn't need or use. I know I have a shopping addiction which is why I've been taking a break from YouTube. Everytime I saw a haul video I saw something or a bunch of somethings I just had to have! It was getting crazy and I had to take a step back and get control of myself! I found this video very motivating and inspiring.
I never bought anything for the sake of buying or for having stuff..this minimalist trend you´re talking about is not new (at least in Europe) people were doing it before there even was a trend or name for it..its called common sense and being aware of your actions impact on you and others.
Great, girl! I do the same thing periodically too, it is really liberating and someone else loves the products / clothes that you do not use! You give away a lot today, great! :)
@rmmst22 no one really said that. i said to think of materialistic objects on this significant of a level is somewhat mentally disturbing lmao. because it is.
i do this periodically and it definitely makes u feel better. once u start getting rid of stuff it can be hard to stop. i know it's not practical but i want to keep things that are not necessary from cluttering my life. great video
Great video, Liz! I have been reading some minimalism blogs lately and have been very inspired by them. I don't think I will ever be as minimalist as some of them, but I certainly want to own a lot less stuff. I have a son with autism and having a visually uncluttered space is important to him (and to my daughter and me, since we are very distractable). Plus, it makes cleaning easier! I really want to stop buying stuff and save up for travelling overseas one day. Thanks for sharing! xoxo ~ Toni
I started de-cluttering about 8 months ago and i'm still going! its such an amazing feeling. it feels like all of this weight is off of me now! this was an awesome video liz. you are such an inspiration to me and i get so excited everytime i see a new video from you! keep it up!!
regarding 'some' of the comments on here... some people seem to have a hard time seeing the good in ANYTHING! I really feel sorry for you people... much love to you today.. you need it -negative commentors. Thank you again, Liz, for giving good practical advice. Most of us have too much stuff that should go away for a better use by someone else.. and the lightened load by having less feels GREAT.
@JoJoB4553 that's an absurd statement to make. in life there exist positive AND negative things. and while we may find some positiveness in other facets of our lives, we might not think something we see on youtube is positive and we sure as hell are allowed to not consider everything we see as something positive. we have love; but we also have the ability to make any type of comments we wish to make; however, that doesn't mean we're not positive just becasue of one negative comment. WTF.
wow.. what a beautiful color on you LIZ!!!! Thanks for this video. I totally agree... cleaning through things externally cleans us up internally (emotionally and mentally) TOO!! This is a great reminder to do that 'spring cleaning'.. Thanks for your continual practical advise!
Great vid Liz. But I hate the term "throw it away" . I go through my shampoos, lotions etc. periodically & donate to the battered woman's shelter. Yes, they even take half used bottles of products. So when I hear "throw it away" I cringe. Someone out there needs those things & are not to proud to use them.
I am a thrifter. I buy my clothing used & I have come away with some fabulous things....some still new with original tags attached. I will not contribute to consumerism & I am being green.
I find that purging my stuff I no longer need is so freeing.... especially when I give it to Christian Help or others in need. The more tightly we hold onto things, the less likely we will open ourselves to receive new blessings. Trust in God that he will provide us what we need when we need it.
Why don't you try Going to a soup kitchen and helping with the homeless!! Give to God!! I can't afford to go shopping like alot of these gurus do the makeup and the clothes geez, I would be living on the streets!! And I have a pretty good job but I also have kids so they come first! I don't live in a materialist world! If I'm not going to wear or use it I'm not buying it! Yes I'm cheap
@tammimarie I really don't have a ton of makeup though, some of those gurus (not Liz) have a ridiculous amount. I am such a clean neat freak that I love to get rid of things.
you are such an inspiration to me !!! thanks for all your knowledge and showing us girls a better way to live than a constant haul!!!!!Now I too am excited about fruits and vegetables :)
Really great video! I did this right before I left for college and now i'm almost done with the term and will be coming home and plan on doing it again! We kind of talked about this in my seminar yesterday, also how we are so dependent on things like facebook and the internet!
I love your videos and your points.. and I totally agree with you about how we shouldn't get so attached to material things because we cant take them with us..but when you think about it--- we aren't taking anything... we get SO attached to people-- we cant bring them either.... really-- it's all about what we leave behind.. and obviously-- the material things aren't what matter.. it's the others.. but... yeah-- just a thought*
Liz, you really inspire me to do the same. I have tons of clothes and things that I would also want to give away and I simply cannot just throw them away because I know that others can benefit from them. I am in Spain as well, Barcelona to be exact and I have no idea where to give these items to. I see you've packed everything up and they are going somewhere... do you have any advice on any place in Spain that would take them? Thanks so much!
