  • Just think that Suzanne should've learned the lyrics before performing instead of spending the whole song looking to the paper...

  • bel arrangement, beaux accords....superbes voix.....splendide...merci !

  • i think i fell in love =)

  • i think the two are perfect together, even if they sing with their different style. While Stacey is cheerful, fresh and feel free, Suzanne makes her presence by a little bit of soft, elegant and deep.

sorry about my english, writing french is honestly easier for me.

  • É pau, é pedra, é o fim do caminho

    É a noite, é a morte, é o laço, é o anzol

  • musica do Brasil brasileiríssima!!!!!

  • Suzanne vega seem like she didnt want to connect with Stacey Kent. what was up with that? Stacey kept looking at her and tried to connect with her several times from the beginning and all throughout the song... Vega just keep looking down (at the lyrics or whatever she's looking down at) everytime Kent smiled at her.

  • @Ylinets That's true ! I noticed this from the very beginning

wondering what was going on between them lol

  • you people are crazy, they are great together!

  • Stacey is amazing

  • Legalzinho, mas as vozes delas contrastam demais.

  • lesbians ans homosexuals have a curse. they must repent and pray for forgiveness//

  • @benalchemist74: You embarass yourself with your childish comment - neither of these women are lesbians, irrelevant of their short hair! Stacey Kent is a very talented jazz singer and a great performer; Suzanne Vega shrinks by comparison and she seems to know it.

  • I'd like to see more of this concert.

  • Great musicians, specially the pianist, nice, soft, as bossa needs.

The singers... good performance, but they need to learn the bossa mood.

  • Stacey has an angel voice, so sweet! She and Jim Tomlinson a perfect duet!!

  • Look at the coy way Stacey Kent looks up into Suzanne's eyes, with that impudent little smile, and Suzanne's eyes are half-shut or glazed over, not making eye-contact, like she just wants to get out of there. This video ought to be called, "Suzanne Vega mentally raped on stage by lesbian."

  • This is terrible.

  • great job, wonderfull, beautifull, congratulations, thanks my dear friend, count on me always, thnks

  • @Niltonpinheiro2

    You're wellcome :-)

  • Que lindas meninas e que interpretação gostosa! Amei!

  • beautiful interpretation!

  • doesnt anyone else think Stacey Kent's vibe is kinda "ha ha Suzanne you've been caught out without the words or the rhythm - take THAT bitch!".

    OK, just me.

  • Has anyone noticed that Ms. Kent has a similar hairstyle to the original singer of this Elis Regina when she was alive? Hmmm

  • My only criticism is that I wish Suzanne Vega were feel the phrase rather than each and every beat. It would be much more musical that way. That said, I love the way she harmonizes the refrain. : )

  • Im in love with her smile!!! *O*

  • OMG Suzanne it's just horrible. Does anybody remark the difference. Suzanne has no swing in this voice. PLease next time let the Wonderful Stacey Kent sing alone !!!!!

  • @musicismylife57 ...Thank you ! My sentiments exactly ! I would like to hear Stacey sing this solo- the two together just are noit compatable here...

  • @musicismylife57 I Think the problem is because she didn't know the lyrics by heart, which is fair enough for this song. She has to read the words all the time.

  • My absolute favorite song. So good! thanks These girls bring it on...

  • Excelente!!! increibles voces!! me encanta Stacey.

  • Excelente!!! increibles voces!! me encanta Stacey.

  • I'd love to hear Stacey Kent singing it in Portuguese. I saw her on a Brazilian talk show speaking Portuguese. I believe she would do a good job with some training.

  • We are the most eclectic country in the world.

    BraSil =)

  • :Waters of March", Brazilian song, from Tom Jobim. I love this song ! Wonderful ! Merveilleuse !

  • Cantora, maravilhosa!!!!

  • Suzanne Vega performed the bossa-nova style very well. That is not easy. I think she should sing more bossa-nova songs...

  • Eu amo essas meninas. Muito boa interpretação.

  • Of course Brazilian music is the best of all!

  • Its Tom Jobim! He is THE MAN! Its the Waters of march...

  • Bos- sa no-va cool!

  • MARAVILHOSO!!!!

  • MARAVILHOSO!

  • i'm revolted that these two are reading the lines off a chart in front of hundreds of fans, and on a live broadcast. Booo!!!!!!! That's weak!!

  • @oddood 'revolted'? It's actually not unheard of for people to actually read the sheet music while playing or singing you know? You make it sound like they're 'cheating'.

  • @brit1958dec I agree, there are more words in this song than most, lots of them interchangeable - if you're not careful it'd be easy to find yourself in the wrong part of the song, that & the fact that it's a duet makes it even harder. I wonder if oddood can sing the whole thing straight off. I couldn't. PS. Stacey Kent does know the words, there's another vid of her singing it solo. PPS. I love that little dance she does a couple of times. She is absolutely entrancing.

  • @BackToTheBlues I actually learned it in portuguese , although i do not speak the language. The whole thing. it took weeks of practice, and I'll know it when I'm an old man. I'm still calling bullshit on this performance. Duets are supposed to be impassioned, these two look like they got thrown together on a blind date gone wrong. The poetry of this song in the original language is entrancing, in English it sounds like sesame street, as do most translations of bossa or cuban music.

  • Why the category is jazz? It's not jazz... It's BOSSA NOVA!

Viva Tom Jobim! Viva brazilian music!!

  • ...sharing with friends, maybe, is a theme of this song. I read somewhere that the lyrics describe a walk in the rain forests at the end of summer there. Opposite of mine, naturally. riveting performance...

  • Ms Vega looking as sexy as her voice.

  • seems Suzanne Vega doesn't remember the lyrics....

  • EXCELENTE!!

  • Beautiful blend of voice!

  • best cover ever, of course tom and elis r better :D

  • i love this song very much.xxxx

  • Very good!

  • i prefer in portuguese-brasilian ;)

  • GREAT!!!

  • Love both of these singers - wow together!! How awesome.

  • Be sure to check out her new version in French (Les eaux de mars) !

  • Excellent !

  • @KasiaGliwski

Thanks for the info - Stacey's rendition is so good.

  • Wow.!!....Trying to remember the lyrics to song must be a herculean task! Almost as hard as trying to memorize Gentle On My Mind by Glen Campbell.

  • neanche paragonabile alla versione di Mina...

  • Stacey Kent's voice is so haunting when singing "Waters of March"... I wonder if she ever sang this song as solo, for I'd like to listen to that.

    She is a great singer.

  • Yes, she has sang this solo in Rio de Janeiro, and there's the vid here on youtube

  • musica brasileira..... ohhh beualtifulll ....TOM JOBIm e Imortal com ELIS REGINA

  • Without doubt, the Brazilian music is the most charming of all the world.

  • It' s a pearl!

Some fans of Suzanne may be surprised.

Two great ladies and a great song!

  • I never heard of Stacy Kent but she did that song justice like very few can! I'm her new fan!!

  • I'm breathless!

  • Keine schöne Frau for you, my friend. She's beautiful in my eyes, so I guess that equals at least schön:)

    Gesundheit!

  • Just amazing.

  • It's Jobim, It's Jobim, It's the Waters of March.

  • JOBIM LIVES!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • "Suzanne, who seems to take it more seriously and focuses on holding on to the mic"

She seems unfamaliar with a difficult song, she is looking at the lyrics the whole time. Stacy Kent is great

  • Ah, so it is that, I didn't even pay much attention to the lyrics. But still, I'm a huuge fan of Suzanne's, so it doesn't matter :)

  • Beautiful piano. Who's the pianist?? It's a woman.

  • Viva o Brasil.

  • ...it's the mud, it's the mud.

  • Good!

  • they look so gay singing to each other

  • @ElPopularVale

actually, stacy kent is married to her manager. and ms. vega

was married but she does a fine job of adopting children.

last count i think she had 7 or 8...

  • Stacey sang it beautifully on the concert in Wroclaw (October 2009). That song is not as easy as it could sound. Jobim is a genius.

  • Oh yeah, wangonca. The song as they sing it sounds very thin and inelegant. I agree: Elis Regina.

  • Lovely Song :)

  • Elis Regina in Portuguese, please!

  • I thought her style of music was Brazilian jazz.

  • This is Bossa Nova

  • Cool cookies both!

  • Not sure which is which... is the redhead Stacey Kent? Either way, she owned this one.

  • The one with the hat is Stacey Kent.

  • Sorry, mi mistake, the one WhithOUT hat is Stacey Kent. Excuse me, my english is sooo bad.

  • I was going to post how Stacey Kent has a great talent, a nice, simple, direct singing style with a lovely sweet tone and superb timing, but when I saw those eyes and that smile I realised I could boil it down to this: I think Stacey Kent would be very easy to fall in love with.

  • Totsally agreed. Compared to Suzanne Stacey is more bubbly and flirty, playful even - unlike Suzanne, who seems to take it more seriously and focuses on holding on to the mic.. Notice how she barely glances at Stacey, whilst Stacey is all for connecting with her. As much as I love Suzanne, I'd say Stacey owned this one for sure. They're both awesome singers, but based on this video I could easily imagne myself falling in love with Stacey, the music and singing of whom I had never heard before.

  • @BackToTheBlues Oh my yes.... WHAT A smile she has..

  • @sleepyking Stacey Kent is the lady who starts the song, and is smiling all the way through. Possibly Suzanne is smiling inwardly...

  • @BackToTheBlues creep...

  • @CriterionCoIIection Lol, yeah, I just fancy her like mad. I stand by what I said though, Stacey is a very talented lady.

  • @BackToTheBlues What a nice thing to say, and said very well.

  • beautiful version... but I'm brazillian and I know that this music says much more than taht...

This music cannot be translated, but this one is beautiful yet

  • Don't like that there reading the lyrics....

  • I agree....Elis Regina's version I think is the best..

  • A perfect duo. I fairy prefer this English version rather than the original

  • Though I don't understand the portuguese (original) version, I prefer it.

  • I like the Akiko & Corinne Drewery version, but I think if Suzanne make some work, this version shall be great.

  • haha stacey kent looks so happy singing! haha susanne vega looks a little like she's trying hard to recall the words haha.

  • Agree! Thougth the same thing.

Nice voices... but reading the lyrics??!! Come on...

  • Lindo! Lindassssssssssssss.

  • I love Stacey Kent - but if you like this song it's also worth searching for the versions by Nicole Henry and Luciana Souza.

  • 2 stars not more!

  • Beatiful version, i'm brasilian and i can say that is the best, english version..

  • Jobim himself wrote the english version of the song....that is how fantastic he was...

  • I love this song (Elis Regina and Tom Jobim imortalized it)!

    Lovely version!

  • beautiful duet!

  • i just wish Stacey Kent would have done the whole track

  • I agree with you BocaFriend even for Regina's and Mina's.

  • There's room in the world for many versions of this magically poetic song! Thanks for posting this. There aren't many fine English versions, and this is a nice rendition! (Oleta Adams and Al Jarreau, too!) Greetings from Florida.

  • beautiful... no other words.. the piano is breath taking

  • I couldn't agree more... by the way, who plays the piano??

  • I'm not sure but she plays awsome!

  • UAU eu amo esta musica ...e divina! Adoroo:)) grazie Giu..., Daniela

  • i like more the original version

  • Stacey forever !!! Suzanne go home!

  • Are you joking? Well, I guess then, that maybe musical feeling of Europeans and Latinas is completely different.. This version is really not like the Portuguese.. And it´s only good, couse it´s wonderful:-)Great tempo, atmosphere, jazzlike piano and outstanding musical feeling of Stacey Kent makes from it almost perfection! Only Suzanne Vega seems quite "unsuitable" for this song...

  • I agree. The macking musicians were brilliant. Stacey Kent very good. But, Suzanne Vega was nearly brutal. She butchered the song.

  • dude seriously, no more excuses this version sucks ass... try Sofia version of this song... sofia the filipina.... swear to God you curse this girls by murdering such a woderful song...

  • don't agree with vasconcelos. Both are top class, moreover i think that siren Susan was singing but reading Verre ardent by M.Maeterlinck:

"je regarde d'anciennes heures, Sous le verre ardent des regrets; Et du fond bleu de leurs secrets Emergent des flores meilleures. O ce verre sur mes désirs! Mes désirs à travers mon Âme! Et l'herbe morte qu'elle enflamme En approchant des souvenirs! Je l'élève sur mes pensées, .......... Otherwise in her Bloody Mary there was poor vodka!

  • Terrible! It is a shame they have to read the lyrics!!

If they were singing it in Portuguese, it is ok... but come on, ... bad, very bad...

Check out the original brazilian version with Elis Regina,....

    that is a different story...

  • Came here to hear Suzanne Vega

First time I hear Stacey Kent

Oh wow, what a fantastic voice !

  • Stacey Kent is even better in person! I've seen her and her incredibly talented husband, Jim Tomlinson, twice at Blues Alley. If you ever get the chance to see them, please do!

  • i dont know either of them but i just wish they let the first woman sing the whole lot

  • wonderful version

  • Vega is reading the lyrics? no wonder she looks ill at ease. However, I appreciate their efforts. and who the heck is Stacey Kent?

  • supposedly hardly any vocalists ever perform this live cos no one can ever remember the lyrics!

  • Stacey knows how to communicate through this song, Vega doesn't.

  • Vega seems uncomfortable singing this song

  • Stacey ist just sweet:-) Perfect peaceful and relaxing song

  • Stacy's harmonies are seriously off-key.

  • it´s amazing, oh my god it´s a beatilfull a tot......oh! my god

  • I saw Stacey Kent live.. all her performances were breathtaking.

  • Suzanne Vega is amazing!

  • They should practice more. Very flat, very often.

  • Yes they are! A waste of Vega's unique talent, too...

  • That's for moments like those that "Taratata" is my favourite French show :-)

  • Un pur moment de bonheur ! Merci !

  • De nada Lara (biemvenu Lara :-)

yes a suspended moment in time of pure pleasure.
