I love England, it's got a lot going for it and of course we share much. I still don't want our government dictated to by the south east of England who generally vote Tory. That's fine if you see Britain and not England (or Scotland for that matter) as your country. Countries are all man made at the end of the day and it comes down to what you personally feels best represents you. Britain to me is nothing more than a political state, created by an elite few for trading purposes. In any case, when a 'British' athlete achieves a medal, if they are Welsh, Scottish or Ireland - the title almost always focuses on Britain. Nope, and even if it were the case that Scotland's was getting subsidies from anyone - it wouldn't be England. England is one of the most indebted countries in the world. Compare and contrast. England has run a surplus (raised more in tax than was spent on itself) in only 5 of the last 40 years.

Scotland has run a surplus in 3 of the last 3 years. Those are the facts. In some parts of England, government spending takes up 70% of the economy. In 2008 in Scotland, government took up 39% of it.

The information comes from the Government Expenditure & Revenue analysis freely available from the National Statistics website. Those are the authoratative figures and show a Scottish fiscal surplus in all recent years for which data is available 2005/06, 2006/07 and 2007/08.

Can we be honest for a second? Putting aside all national bias, wouldn't most of the starting XI and bench be made of English players? There's more money invested in the game, and the only non-English player I can realistically see making the starting XI is Aiden McGeady.

That said, I still think we need to either have Team GB for all sports, or individual teams for each nation in each sport. Can't separate football out from the other sports just because it's more popular.

I have to side with Wishart. I don't see how this could be a "one off." How can 3 out the 4 home nations be bullied into a Team GB, with nothing on paper to ensure their continuation as an independent post 2012? PM Brown & FIFA's Sepp Blatter can "talk" all they want of the promises that this is a one off. But with no written assurances, this Scot says.. not NO.. but HELL NO! to a Team GB. I believe the Welsh & Nor. Irish would agree.
