@thebeginvideos Problem with videos like this is they only show you the worst. If you ever been to any average animal research lab, you will see that it's actually not that bad. There are strict guidelines that state animals that are in too much pain need to be euthanized. Videos like this are shown to draw out your emotions, which work for you, but just keep in mind usually i'ts not this bad. In fact, you can barely tell an avg lab from a pet shop. That's how good it is USUALLY.

While I totally agree that the treatment in the video is obscene and disgraceful, what most of you fail to realise is that animal testing is completely necessary. No pharmaceuticals can pass regulatory submission on in vitro data alone. One question, how are scientists and doctors supposed to develop new medicine without animal testing? Computer modeling and cell culture are good research methods, but not good enough to be used independently. Animal research is necessary to develop new medicine, even in veterinary medicine.

@XUltra00 Actually it is science. These animals are probably in a BSL4 lab, which means this lab is high risk. Everything in this lab could probably do major harm if it ever got out. In animal labs with restraints and rules this strict, the animals probably carry some sort of disease. If its a risk level 4 disease that means any and all infections from animal to human would be fatal for the human and incurable. Research on animals that carry such diseases is necessary from a medical standpoint.

The way in which they're handling the monkeys would be counter productive to any form of research because it induces stress, which in a variable that changes results. The results tell if the procedure is adequate, necessary and productive. So sticking a tube down a monkey's throat wouldn't be the science it would be the procedure. And if the test involves observation of ingestion of chemicals then any animal based scientific facility would use similar procedures.

I know the scientific method and it doesn't clarify what should or should not be experimented on. It simply sets the ground work for experimentation so that the experiment can be as subjective as possible and can be followed or reproduced by others. Has nothing to do with the test subjects, what are you talking about?

I do know that BSL3 and 4 labs shouldn't handle animals like the ones in the video in such a way because its not safe to the researchers. But I do know places where animal research is carried out. I also know that there's use for such research. MMR vaccines, polio, skin grafting technologies. All came from animal research.

@thebeginvideos Problem with videos like this is they only show you the worst. If you ever been to any average animal research lab, you will see that it's actually not that bad. There are strict guidelines that state animals that are in too much pain need to be euthanized. Videos like this are shown to draw out your emotions, which work for you, but just keep in mind usually i'ts not this bad. In fact, you can barely tell an avg lab from a pet shop. That's how good it is USUALLY.

No pharmaceuticals can pass regulatory submission on in vitro data alone. @XUltra00 Actually it is science. These animals are probably in a BSL4 lab, which means this lab is high risk. Everything in this lab could probably do major harm if it ever got out. In animal labs with restraints and rules this strict, the animals probably carry some sort of disease. If its a risk level 4 disease that means any and all infections from animal to human would be fatal for the human and incurable. Research on animals that carry such diseases is necessary from a medical standpoint.

This video in particular is a clear violation of modern day BSL3 or 4 regulations. The way in which they're handling the monkeys would be counter productive to any form of research because it induces stress, which in a variable that changes results. @XUltra00 ...Plus you're failing to see that the science of something and the procedures used for something are different. You're not learning from the procedure you're learning from the results. The results tell if the procedure is adequate, necessary and productive. So sticking a tube down a monkey's throat wouldn't be the science it would be the procedure. And if the test involves observation of ingestion of chemicals then any animal based scientific facility would use similar procedures.

Please educate yourself on that. Actually doing science and claiming to be doing science are two different things. Just like how you can't define astrology or alchemy or magic as science.

@XUltra00 Educate myself? I'm was biology major in undergrad, with a BS in bio, I have my masters of public health and as of April I'll have my master in biotechnology. I know the scientific method and it doesn't clarify what should or should not be experimented on. It simply sets the ground work for experimentation so that the experiment can be as subjective as possible and can be followed or reproduced by others. Has nothing to do with the test subjects, what are you talking about?

@XUltra00 You're not understanding the dynamics of this conversation. I don't know the procedures of this lab or any other lab that I haven't personally been in contact with. I do know that BSL3 and 4 labs shouldn't handle animals like the ones in the video in such a way because its not safe to the researchers. But I do know places where animal research is carried out. I also know that there's use for such research. MMR vaccines, polio, skin grafting technologies. All came from animal research.

I don't know why they're putting the tubes down the monkey's throat, but obviously its part of their procedure. Every facility has different procedures and unless I worked there I couldn't possibly know the reasoning behind it. Lets try not to ask dead end irrelevant questions. How about this... Why isn't animal research science?

I know all about that form of animal research. No one knows what these people are doing in this video because we don't know the reasoning behind the research. How can I know what they are doing? I see no labels telling me what they are injecting. Think about it. Its a simple concept. Again why isn't it science?

Sorry BUT: we NEED to DO animal testing! Because how do scientists & pharmaceutical companies know what experimental drugs that could work or not!? Come on now,we all know that science needs testing subjects to be prodded for them to know w/c vaccines, medicines that will all cure us people in case we get sick. How else are they gonna test it? they do it with lab animals & i'm pretty sure that they treat their subjects with honor, care and dignity, right!?

@noratmedicine When I said "it's all a question of human ethics", I was referring to humans deciding what to do with these animals, and your opinions on it. I meant that neither of us was going to convince the other, so why waste time getting cross when you can learn from others opinions and save these creatures without wasting that time.
Again, with mice it's obviously a fantastic development, but again some may argue "it's against God's Will". Let us learn from that rather than challenge it.

Personally Id like to get hold of some of these so called scientists myself and lock them in a cage wait for the fear to build then go at them with a bunch of needles and tools. If you want to truely see how something affects the human body test it on humans. Prisons are overpopulated so use criminals

I don't know whether they're guilty or not, which is more of a reason why it's not up to you or me to pass judgement on them like that. Some of these people in prison are put there for drug charges. You're telling me that whoever gets caught smoking marijuana or sniffing coke deserves to be torchered? And humans arn't on the endangered species list , but neither are the animals tested.
