@ParisTNDude Well the driver of the Z06 shouldn't have agreed to race a car he couldn't beat. The 505hp Z06 would have done better. I like the Z06, but the GT has more potential and better gearing, it's hard to a beat a GT in a straight drag race.
@fitz207 When you're at the drag strip you go to the staging lanes and line up with whoever's next to you. But, this older model Z06 is, as you said, no match for the Ford GT. The GT does make a good drag racer since 56% of it's weight is on the back wheels which is quite an advantage. The GT would have all it can stand against a C6 Z06...no question.
That's not a Z06 Corvette. Also no one who's not anal would make the distinction that there's any REAL difference between cars whose engines are in front of the driver but are behind or on top of the front axle. There are 3 types, PERIOD. Rear engine, mid engine or front engine. Only Audis have the engine very far forward and they are STILL front engine Mr. I'm pretending there's a distinction that characterizes me as some wanna be expert I'm not.
Yes the engine is definitely in Front of the driver in corvettes, I know that. But since it's Behind the Front axle it's considered FMR. I realize most people think mid-engine is behind the driver. But as long as it's between the axles it's mid-engine (close to the middle of the car).
Also ALOT of front engine cars ARENT behind the front axle. I'd say the majority. The're on top of it.

yeah, it's very smooth and easy. the one draw back is it's "long" shift compared to... but very smooth and easy. NOW, a lot of guys upgrade to the 08+ cause it's a lil shorter, but other then that...... no issues, NOW, a GT might be/feel a lil "tighter" but as far as "issues" nope, none.
GM isn't afraid....... they want people to be able to afford them......... if you took the ZR1 which would destroy many many many "supercars" price 2x 3x more and added the luxary corvette's dont have........ they would cost crazy high too. I think GM thinks like more performance minded indivuduals do, bang/buck or hp/$....... back to the Z06 so when I want a close in performance car with "better buttons" I will spend the extra $00k, in the mean time, I will enjoy beingn fast(er).
@hisandherturbo: How about a manual gear box thats very hard to miss a gear in? For whatever reason, miss shifting in Corvettes have been notorious. But the ZR-1 seems to have slightly improved tremec gear box. And I gotta be honest, as many street races I've seen with the Ford GT, I have never heard anyone ever miss a gear in them.

OK, fine compair both 06's $75k vs $150k. and Motor Trend who compared both at the same time the difference in the 1/4 was 1/10th Ford GT won (11.5 vs 11.6) but the Z06 won braking 100-0 & 60-0 (283' vs 321' & 100' vs 114'), Z06 had won lateral G's (1.05 vs .96) Z06 faster MT figure 8 (24.4 vs 24.6) Z06 won 1.6 mile road course lap (75.4 vs 79.6) Be careful what you ask for
@hisandherturbo: I'm not gonna compare prices between the cars because one was built to be a supercar and the other was built to be a sports car. Those are all intresting numbers. But lets not leave out their Nurburgring lap times, which we all know is the bench mark track for all around performance. Where as the Ford GT did it in 7:40.6 and the Z06 did it in 7:42.9 secs. 2 seconds is a decent size difference considering that track has so many corners and it takes so long just to complete 1 lap.

The interior of the GT is of higher quality using real genuine metal instead of plastic buttons/switches, the GT also has a higher quality ricardo gearbox, and unlike Vettes, the body isn't half fiberglass.

@ParisTNDude Well the driver of the Z06 shouldn't have agreed to race a car he couldn't beat. The 505hp Z06 would have done better. I like the Z06, but the GT has more potential and better gearing, it's hard to a beat a GT in a straight drag race.

@fitz207 When you're at the drag strip you go to the staging lanes and line up with whoever's next to you. But, this older model Z06 is, as you said, no match for the Ford GT. The GT does make a good drag racer since 56% of it's weight is on the back wheels which is quite an advantage. The GT would have all it can stand against a C6 Z06...no question.

That's not a Z06 Corvette. Also no one who's not anal would make the distinction that there's any REAL difference between cars whose engines are in front of the driver but are behind or on top of the front axle. There are 3 types, PERIOD. Rear engine, mid engine or front engine. Only Audis have the engine very far forward and they are STILL front engine Mr. I'm pretending there's a distinction that characterizes me as some wanna be expert I'm not.

Yes the engine is definitely in Front of the driver in corvettes, I know that. But since it's Behind the Front axle it's considered FMR. I realize most people think mid-engine is behind the driver. But as long as it's between the axles it's mid-engine (close to the middle of the car).
Also ALOT of front engine cars ARENT behind the front axle. I'd say the majority. The're on top of it.
Also iPhones have no "reply" feature...

I've been around cars my whole life and never heard the "FMR/RMR" terms but thanks for that extra bit of knowledge. the zr1 only weighs 100 pounds less than a z06 and .1 sec faster 0-60 and .2 faster in the quarter the vettes are scared of the fgt because their always messing with mustangs. when the sports car class is mustang,camaro,and challenger. super sports cars are fgt,vette, and viper. vette dont have shit when it icks on something its own size with a smaller naturally aspirated motor. vettes do have pretty big motors but the fgt has a smaller faster one and once again epic fail on chevys side

yeah, it's very smooth and easy. the one draw back is it's "long" shift compared to... but very smooth and easy. NOW, a lot of guys upgrade to the 08+ cause it's a lil shorter, but other then that...... no issues, NOW, a GT might be/feel a lil "tighter" but as far as "issues" nope, none.

GM isn't afraid....... they want people to be able to afford them......... if you took the ZR1 which would destroy many many many "supercars" price 2x 3x more and added the luxary corvette's dont have........ they would cost crazy high too. I think GM thinks like more performance minded indivuduals do, bang/buck or hp/$....... back to the Z06 so when I want a close in performance car with "better buttons" I will spend the extra $00k, in the mean time, I will enjoy beingn fast(er).

@hisandherturbo: How about a manual gear box thats very hard to miss a gear in? For whatever reason, miss shifting in Corvettes have been notorious. But the ZR-1 seems to have slightly improved tremec gear box. And I gotta be honest, as many street races I've seen with the Ford GT, I have never heard anyone ever miss a gear in them.

I gotta lot of respect for GM because they are actually taking out a lot of the plastic components and replacing them with carbon fiber ones, such as the center console in the 2011 ZR-1. They are definitely refining the car even more as the year goes by.

OK, fine compair both 06's $75k vs $150k. and Motor Trend who compared both at the same time the difference in the 1/4 was 1/10th Ford GT won (11.5 vs 11.6) but the Z06 won braking 100-0 & 60-0 (283' vs 321' & 100' vs 114'), Z06 had won lateral G's (1.05 vs .96) Z06 faster MT figure 8 (24.4 vs 24.6) Z06 won 1.6 mile road course lap (75.4 vs 79.6) Be careful what you ask for

@hisandherturbo: I'm not gonna compare prices between the cars because one was built to be a supercar and the other was built to be a sports car. Those are all intresting numbers. But lets not leave out their Nurburgring lap times, which we all know is the bench mark track for all around performance. Where as the Ford GT did it in 7:40.6 and the Z06 did it in 7:42.9 secs. 2 seconds is a decent size difference considering that track has so many corners and it takes so long just to complete 1 lap.

And OK, so a almost 8 min race is lost by 2 secs, and ah, 2 secs isn't that long of a race, Trust me, I race a "only" just over 2 min long road course, and 2 secs is nothing, that's a couple better turns thats it. In short, pretty impressive for a prodution car 1/2 the price that close to a "supercar" at the ring

@hisandherturbo: A 2 min track isn't anything compared to "The Ring". Secondly, if you wanna compare the prices of the car, then you gotta compare the entire car and not just the car's performance. The interior of the GT is of higher quality using real genuine metal instead of plastic buttons/switches, the GT also has a higher quality ricardo gearbox, and unlike Vettes, the body isn't half fiberglass.

It has better traction because the engine is mounted over the drive wheels. This puts more pressure on the drive wheels making it harder to spin out. The GTR is a good example of how better traction allows a car to beat one with more power.
