The second verse of this song is a scene of a dying person. It's assurance of salvation. (James 5:15) "Sleeping sofly, then it seems Heaven enters in my dreams; Angels hover round me, Whisp'ring they have found me; Two are sweetly singing, Two are garlands bringing, Strewing me with roses As my soul reposes. God will not forsake me When dawn at last will wake me."
Humperdinck's masterful haunting "Evening Prayer" is such a gorgeous centerpiece of this melodious, lovely opera that only a wonderful voice like Fleming's can sing it so beautifully.
I think the little one on the right of her that keeps looking at the conductor with a slightly serious/angry face is just adorable. The song is fantastic (much better in German than English) and Renee Fleming can do next to no wrong in my eyes. Two thumbs way up.
Don't know how Fleming kept on pitch with those boys being so flat. Ouch! And that conductor..... my God, looks like he's ready to push them out of the way and sing it himself.
You don't know anything about singing, you arse licker. These guys sing well and I think better than you ... I'm not one of them but i know them and they did their job good.
So do it better pls before you say they are bad... and the conductor was contented with the guys... He said that and I heard him...
So pls shut up and don't tell shit about things you don't know anything about...
This Concert was Conducting by Trevor Pinnock, The Choir Was The Mainzer Cathedral Choir ( Boyschoir) and Orcestera was The Bremmer Kammerphiamonic Ocestera
Thank you for posting this, tpham, and for offering the location information, anonymusum. I just ran across this video and wondered where it was performed. I've had the opportunity to visit some of the beautiful cathedrals of Germany and Austria - the perfect setting for music such as this.
I watched this program on PBS and this is the first time I saw Renee perform before, and this is the moment I fell in love with her. Renee looks so beautiful and her talent is beyond compare. I LOVE HER!
I thought this was free for german users as well - and why shouldn´t they poste in german? if you can´t understand it - begin to learn german as i learned english.

Idiots like you make me not want to travel. I can only imagine that you can understand my German about as well as we can understand your poor English... thus, you don't post in English, and I won't post in German. Fair enough, asshole?
can none of you spell? It's post. No "e". And he's right, you should learn more than one language, or your life will be a lot harder that it has to be.
they're not actually out of tune. i did this duet when i was younger with the cape philharmonic orchestra and it is slightly desonant, to create the tension. theyre do sing rather soft though, i agree.
Ich glaube, dass das orchester und der chor entzückend sind. Ich wünsche, dass Renee dieses kleine duett mit einem anderen erwachsenen jedoch sang. Viele opernwerkstätten tun es dieser weg in Amerika.
It is from a German TV performance on christmas and it was only this extract from `hänsel und gretel´. The other tunes were mainly pieces by Bach and christmas chorals, where a boys chorus was engaged in. So I think it was a nice idea to give the best of their voices the opportunity to sing in this duet. The whole thing was not about the perfection of a concert, it was about christmas and the spirit behind it.

Fleming sings with reverence that is luminous and takes the prayerful to the divine

A prayer as song is the most awesome thing and Fleming sings with reverence that is luminous.

is there any tune more moving than this? The harmonies are so gorgeous.

Nice performance, on the whole. But it would have been more vocally balanced with more trebles (or with them miked.) Five was not enough here.

ummmmm she might have been able to stay on pitch because there's an orchestra behind her playing the right notes??

@TenorDiva86 Great singers know how to sing in tune.

Her voice is just too heavy to sing with a bunch of little boys... I think it just can't blend. I've sung this: it's not that hard to tune it.
babecat74 2 years ago
@babecat74
I don't think that's the point. If they wanted it to sound like a choir, they wouldn't have featured her as a soloist on the soprano line.
