Not the right way of playing 2nd movement of "Pathetique" sonata. If beethoven was alive, he would be yelling at you. Listen to the recording of people play this movement of this sonata, for example Daniel Barenboim.
If thats how I could play the piece.. I wouldnt perform it,~ there is no clarity of sound depth between the hands, theres little consistency with rhythm ..mistakes everywhere, ~ Other problems.. A chair instead of stool! Not easy to play from down there. Being the 2nd movement of pathetique.. its meant to be contrasting, the speed here is similar to what you would find in the 3rd movement :/
funny mistake there. I love love love this 2nd movement, but I like it slow. Your performance made me shiver a bit, at some parts it was really messy, and overall too fast for my tastes. Well if you can play it well and fast that's fine, but to me this had little to no emotion, and emotion is what this movement needs. Well, to me anyway. :)
The melody note at 2:46 had me on the floor laughing hard for like 20 minutes. I'll have to give a like just for the "monk" #9 blue note on the Dom7 chord!!!!
This is really strange.. I mean.. why would you play it that fast? Had you never heard a recording of it, never looked at the tempo marking, and never had a teacher? This is kind of mystifying... you're not actually retarded, are you?
Hey, this wasn't half bad. Honestly, I kind of cringed when I heard it, but I sent this to my sister and she was like 'Wait, what's wrong with it?' If you don't know the piece beforehand, you wouldn't be able to tell.
If that's the music for the piece in front of you there, then I have absolutely no sympathy. You should have known the music well enough to kick its ass with the music. If it's all from memory, then I'm sorry. I'm sure your next performance was better. It happens to the best of us.
i liked it lol, idk what u guys r talkin about sounded good to me ^^ shit bet 90% of u guys cant even of done what he did( stand up in front of a big crowd and play the piano, plus 95 of u cant even play the piano)
Kudos for having the balls to post this up, whereas other ppl would hug their knees and rock on the same spot for hours every time they heard this piece again.
I hate performing in front of people...... i didn't mind when I was young, but once I got older, self-awareness plays a role......
Oh wellz, ur teacher needs to be taught a lesson anyway lol, so I shotgun the 2nd smack after @wonphi7 does it first..
EPIC FAIL - I had a vision of a spastic playing this while I watched with disgust. When you read words, do you read via the same method, like not pausing for breath? Please stop playing the piano.
WOW!!!! that was just awful, there was absolutley nothing good about that at all. You and your teacher should be ashamed of your selves. get a freaking metronome and a dictionary of music. watch your dynamics and your tempo i mean jeez what were you thinking.
As a teacher of classical music, I understand and teach to my students that music is always open to interpretation. No two people will play a piece of music exactly the same - which is one of the most beautiful things about music! That being said, I think you took a little too much liberty in "interpreting" this piece. You would do well to engage in a study of Beethoven and his style of composing before deviating down a path that is borderline disrespectful to the composer.
It's not so much that the tempo is wrong, although it is indeed wrong. An exercise in this tempo requires clarity, and also requires that the voices be preserved. This is simply a wash of damper pedal, and lost emotion, and changing tempo.
I recommend that when you play at an accelerated tempo, you use very little pedal, focus on the voices of the piece, and maintain a constant tempo.
Exercises in tempo change are not without merit, but require clarity.
And for your information, this song is given the expression "Adagio cantabile" which means slowly, in a singing style. Please improve yourself. If possible, I would even like to see a video of you playing this song, properly.
Go listen to those pianists that play this piece. At least, their variation is what Beethoven wants. Do not ruin Beethoven's music. Show some respect to him. Since you failed, it is even worse since this song can be played by a Grade 5. Taking the stage and failing is bad enough. Taking the stage and failing and posting it on YouTube is even worse. What will you do if your teacher sees this? Don't disgrace yourself.
Firstly, the speed is way too fast. You are just playing the keys for the sake of completing the piece. Beethoven pieces. The second movements of sonatas is usually soothing and slow, a piece that soothes someone's heart. If you want to play a fast song, why not go for Moonlight Sonata third movement? This song is way too simple, yet too hard for you since you cannot play it slowly. Go and practice how to play music with expression first. If I were your teacher, I might have refused to teach you
@IRIQUOIS227 not really. they have a point, he plays the left hand part too loudly (which masks out most of the melody), and the rhythm and dynamics hardly has any variation for a romantic piece.
I should show this to a piano major friend I have... she plays all of the Beethoven Sonate. She would laugh at this fast tempo! You have guts to share this with Youtube and for that I am giving this video a like.
Nice words from all of you piano snobs. As an admitted piano noob, I am glad that I don't ask youtube for encouragement. Who cares how or what someone plays... it is all relative to taste. im not narrow... i can't hold it against any one who wants to put their own twist on a song to make it theirs..... but this is to much.... and he STILL messes up the original!!!
Are you joking? It must be pathetique! SLOW AND ROMANTIC... Your version is too fast and without emotions... Give way to melody. Don't play it like this... that's bad way!!! Beethoven must turn over in his tomb...
I´m sure you are a famous comedian and this is one of your most successful numbers :-) Can´t stop laughing! But: your Memphis Stomp show is even "better"!

do you post all your videos as failures? then when will you know which you are truly good at? you can lie to youtube, but yourself? is that the true spirit of virtuosity, self-demeaning comments?
On the bright side, most of the notes are there! Just a bit of performance practise so you don't get nervous and rush and a litle bit of work on phrasing, dynamics and pedal and you'll be able to perform this piece well!
bit fast but that's probably on account of nerves :) don't worry m'dear it happens to us all and this is a very difficult piece :) plus you didn't fail at all so believe in yourself! xxx
@afertyus1000 well no I wouldn't- but as I said before this guy was slightly too fast because he was probably REALLY nervous. do you play the piano? if not then you don't have good grounds to stand on when making critizisms.
@TigerLuver2k10 Yes i do play the piano professionally he was MUCH too fast i suppose it would be difficult for a grade 5 imo but obviously more preparation was needed before playing to an audience i was not rude just truthful
Nobody's perfect and we learn from our mistakes. This guy know he 'failed' (I'd say no, he just didn't play it right!) so there's no need to add to it.
BTW don't forget to NOT ask me "do you do piano" because I did AMus and I am probably half your age, considering you are somewhere near 30.

On the bright side, most of the notes are there! Just a bit of performance practise so you don't get nervous and rush and a litle bit of work on phrasing, dynamics and pedal and you'll be able to perform this piece well!

bit fast but that's probably on account of nerves :) don't worry m'dear it happens to us all and this is a very difficult piece :) plus you didn't fail at all so believe in yourself! xxx

@TigerLuver2k10 difficult? hahaha are you joking????
afertyus1000 1 year ago
@afertyus1000 erm no? it is- i find it difficult but i've just done grade six. pardon me but there's no need to be rude...
TigerLuver2k10 1 year ago
@TigerLuver2k10 yes but surely you would never take that tempo if you had learnt the piece?
afertyus1000 1 year ago
@afertyus1000 well no I wouldn't- but as I said before this guy was slightly too fast because he was probably REALLY nervous. do you play the piano? if not then you don't have good grounds to stand on when making critizisms.

@TigerLuver2k10 Yes i do play the piano professionally he was MUCH too fast i suppose it would be difficult for a grade 5 imo but obviously more preparation was needed before playing to an audience i was not rude just truthful

@afertyus1000
Jeez okay Your Honour aka Mr. PianoPro, chill!
