  • @Shahbazkhell that goes over my little understanding-what???

  • The music is amazing, though the girl playing the Tanpura looks pretty bored

  • great sounds :)

  • Calling names and using racism is disrespecting to this instrument and culture.

Would you use profanity and call names in a sacred place? because this is a sacred instrument. and it is the same.

    So please stop.

  • What is the name of the instrument in the middle played by the young lady?

  • the instrument is a Tanpura

  • The Instrument is called "Tanpura". It has only four threads.

  • Shut up you washed up dumb garbage Youtube poser piece of common internet refuse

  • Absolutely Amazing

  • Seriously man, there's no race, and or religion for good music, everyone can enjoy that, You two dudes got to sit down and light up a bowl and work out your differences man. It's all good.

  • @sweetleafchief don't even need weed for that, just music. music is a common ground for everyone.

  • @sweetleafchief Best comment here!! It's sad when people try to bring racial and religious segregation to everything. Just shut up, keep your comments to yourself. One of the reasons why this world has so many problems is because of segregation. Music is a universal language, a universal world. It doesn't have to be from one certain race or religion for it to be good, music is music. It comes from the heart and soul, not from someone's belief or the color of ones skin.

  • Everybody just please shut the fuck up and enjoy the music for what it is, nobody cares about your petty arguments over whether Hindus or Muslims are better. They are both part of the larger whole that is God.

  • thank you! someone who think the way like me.

  • @CarnaticConnection Dude, adding another religion into this isn't helping the argument.

  • sounds awesome....

HAve you lost respect? I suggest you stop fighting over things that aren't of your concern. Can't understand the telling off still.

  • twippy man

  • sitar's sound is extasiastic!!!

  • fast ass hands on that drummer WOW :O

  • Love it to tears!!!

  • i must go to india

  • oo i love pak indian classical muzik....

  • i looove 3:50 - 4:15 ... amazing

  • The little drums are called a Tabla.

And the guitar like instrument is a Sitar

My all time favorite is ofcourse the one and only Ravi Shankar. Check him out!

  • What sitar player/ lover doesnt like Ravi, Thanks to George Harrison all this would have been kind of new and probably not as popular.

  • very hypnotic. i hope to get one soon

  • what is the name of the two little drums?

  • The small one is the tabla and the large one is the bayan; together, they are called the tabla

  • bayan and dayan to be exact. :)

  • tabla

  • Exellant!

  • That's a Gandhar sitar, correct?

  • Nope, Kharaj.

  • sombody want to explain what the girl in the back is doing?

  • blowing

  • Blowing what instrument?

  • the trombone

  • Playing the tanpura, the instrument which provides the drone for classical Indian music. Conceptually it is supposed to represent OM, the general field of being out of which all limited forms arise and return.

  • The Tampura is an aeolian instrument, that play a continuous sound, like the " Vieille ronde" in medieval music.

  • That's what the girl play: Tampura.

  • what is the name of the percussion instrument ?

  • after a small research i found it !

    is called " tabla "

u can learn playing it from youtube!

  • "Tabla"

2 drums with different pitches, usually accompanied to Sitar.

  • awesome and alive thankos

  • dedicated player, looks like seni gharana

  • I watched it all and thought it was great, but I think the reason our side of the world isn't embracing ths music is it doesn't progress, it does't go anywhere, there's no start, middle and finish.

  • Wow. You need a serious lesson in Indian Classical Music. Performances usually START with a slow alap to introduce, go faster and fastest in jor and jhalla respectively (MIDDLE), and is ended with a gat, or a composition which follows similar speed patterns (END). This is the gat part. It's all highly organized, building in intensity, until a grand finish.

  • even i knew that, and im 14

  • Mass acceptance doesn't glorify or dignify anything be it music, way of life or whatever.

This is an important lesson to learn early on in life. Not sure how old are you but this might be a good time to start on that.

  • I never said there was anything wrong with this music, I just didn't see a beggining, middle and end in this video.

I'm 16, and I'm well aware that mass acceptance doesn;t make anything better.

  • maybe you should listen to music more.

  • bein chod

  • goed

  • Paul's really good. It's a shame the tabla player isn't quite the same caliber - he's good but not a good match for Paul's style which is more precise, energetic and spontaneous - especially at the faster tempo.

I would suggest someone like Sukhvinder Singh would be a good match

  • whoa cool!

  • que chimbita parcero, esta elegante su video

  • I wish I could play tablas, they are definitely the best hand drums ever.

  • pretty good..for a white dude...nicely done..bravo..

  • that woman is hitting a bong right up on stage. how bold

  • I'm going on April 9th to see a Sitar player concert. I cannot wait!

  • dude that lady has a huuuuuge bong

  • It's a sitar?

  • yes dude!

  • LoLoLoL =P

  • umm no, it's a tanpura

  • umm lol, why does it say Sitar if it's not? xD

  • Its a Sitar!

  • (response to Dummdoedeldiedummmm)

to put it easily, the instrument played by the guy is a sitar, the instrument played (or not) by the girl, is a tanpura.

  • Yes i know

  • lol

  • its a tanpura- its an instrument to ensure that the pitch and melody are in order.

  • i know

  • right

  • it dosent look like a tanpura it only looks like one at 2:15 it proabably isnt traditional its definatly a more advanced one

  • what instrument is playing that indian woman?

  • the tambura (or tampura or tanpura) or whatever you like to call it. It is a simple drone accompaniment instrument, usually played in performance by a sitar player's apprentice, which is why the tampura player is usually not credited along with the rest of the musicians.

  • She is just there smoking a huge bong.

  • that woman is not indian, she is mexican american

  • how can you tell, she's behind her instrument nearly the whole time

  • because she is a personal friend of mine, along with her husband Paul.

  • Shabaash! Well done. I have been playing sitar for 40 years and appreciate any westerner who has had the discipline for proper talim and riaz. Are you in the world program at CalArts? A friend of mine studied bansuri there some years ago. Keep up the good work. I look forward to following your career.

  • Beautiful! Thank you!

  • You guys are really good

  • how much approximately does a sitar cost

  • about $500 but it depends on the one you want.

  • My dear, now top quality Sitars are available for only US $350 through internet.I bought it myself & I found the quality very satisfying.Visit sitarmusic(.)webs(.)com(/)index(.)htm

  • "Mariska Hargitay!" ;)

  • whoa...

  • I gotta get me one of those

  • you see ravi shankar shred, it's nuts. but this guy is also very good, I wonder where he studied.

  • Actually he is a current Disciple of Ravi Shankar.

His other gurus are the late Amiya Dasgupta, and Rajeev Taranath.

  • I didn't know one could shred on the sitar...awesome job!

  • what is that gat?

  • I want a sitar now

  • oh wow the sitar is such a fucking trippy and beautiful instrument

  • Very nice job. Thats a beautiful gat, and nice clean bols and tans.

  • beautiful performance! thanks for sharing

  • sorry but im new to this whole sitar thing.. can someone explain what a raga and a tanpura is?

  • wrong guess... (paul livingstone) the raag just moves like that always

  • hes a disciple of shahid parvez, you can tell with this composition....(guesssss)

  • Actually, he is a disciple of Pandit Ravi Shankar. His name is Paul Livingstone and is a really great player. He is also fantastic on guitar. He rocks on 9 string fretless guitar. He is my sitar teacher in LA.

  • Actually based on the composition (by RAvi hankar) i am guessing he learned from the Mihar Gharana
