When the particle is >400, You can use the unloadMovie(); command, to get rid of it, I just wanted to say this because for some reason removeMovieClip did not want to work.
@higuything21 I think he forgot to define which movie clip (this) he wanted to delete in the removeMovieClip command... I added a this as a parameter and it seemed to work fine for me :3
