As long as come from Latin america you are "latino" even if you are from Brazil, Trinidad or Jamaica, U don't have to speak spanish to be Latino. Any country which is located in Latin America, their inhabitants are in the LATINO category.
I don't know where you live, but here in the United States, we're not, nor do we call ourselves Latins in Brazil either. I'm Brazilian, "dummy". I think I'd know more about my own identity than you.
Actually, under the U.S. goverment and U.S. Census Bureau, they're not. They're Latin Americans, as are Haitians, but they're Latins or Latinos. In Brazil, they don't self-identify as Latins, they self-identify as Brazilians. The modern defintion of Latin is someone who has natal and/or ancestral ties with Spanish-speaking Latin America only.
Please read something historical about Portugal and you'll see that Brazilians are Latins, like whatever person that own a native language with latin roots.
I know all about that, thank you. From your perspective, anyone who has natal and/or ancestral ties to a country that speaks a Romance language can be considered "Latin". "Latin" can be defined in many, many ways, but the fact of the matter is that Brazilians do not fit the definition of "Latin" in neither the U.S. nor in Brazil. The U.S. Census Bureau and government do not categorize Brazilians under "Latinos".
