  • This vid went viral on Poland

  • It's funny, because Linux users look nothing like her.

  • @max9832 - Nixie Pixel

  • i multiboot osx(hackintosh), linux(ubuntu, xubuntu, tinycore, crux) and windows. No more problems :)

  • @FenrirLupus if by user friendly, you mean useless, then yes, linux is user friendly.

  • @FenrirLupus I agree with the points on mac, and I know that windows is better for gaming, but people need to realize how gaming capable macs are. I know steam has more variety on windows, but OSX has much anything I could ever want at this point.

  • @AmilGaoul13 Linux is good right up until the time when you want to do something with your computer

  • if linux is a girl... and mac and pc are boys... shouldn't they... ??

  • Linux runs on PCs! XD

  • @AmilGaoul13

    1. w7

    2. linux

    3. mac

    my opinion!

  • @MainlyFlames

    1. Linux

    2. XP

    3. Seven

    4. Mac

    5. Vista

reason: gaming of course, xp and linux is more customised

  • @Arrakhis something cannot be more customized, you could say that it is more customizable, but that would be untrue in the case of XP. And linux is last in terms of gaming, Mac is not an operating system, it is a brand of computer. Thats like saying my operating system is dell. It simply doesn't make sense. Much like the rest of your argument.

  • @brainslurper not quitely, I found much lesser crash in Linux and XP compared to other OS, that was I meant they more customiseable

so what the OS for Mac called then(Apple)? it often not comapctible for games

  • @Arrakhis customizable definition- can be modified to suit a particular individual or task

Nowhere in there does customizable mean that there are less crashes. And even if it did, your statement wouldn't be true. When you say other os, what do you mean? The only other operating system that matters is OSX (that's what it's called, by the way) and that has far less crashes then XP and Linux. Go learn about the basic advantages and disadvantages of the operating systems before you try to talk

  • @brainslurper MAC cant play 'doujin' game what I meant

  • @Arrakhis a mac can play any game currently out. Macs can install windows via the bootloader that comes free in osx, and play any games that aren't compatible with their native os

  • @brainslurper gimme a link for that, if mac can play doujin games like touhou, vocaloid and some other application for that

  • @brainslurper Stop taking everything he says so literally. Linux is not an operating system, it is a kernal. XP is not an operating system, Windows XP is. There, now I can be a comment troll too!

  • @Chintendoeddman If I pointed at your computer, and said the operating system is dell, I would be retarded. Operating systems like ubuntu are of the linux kernel. As for the xp thing, if we are discussing operating systems, any computer literate person would know what I am referring to when I say xp.

  • @brainslurper Any computer literate person would know that a mac refers to Mac OS X ( and they would know the "X" is the roman numeral for "Ten"). When someone says "a mac" they would know it is a computer. Stop being so uptight and snooty on terms.

  • the population of canada is bigger than the number of linux users.

  • @00tommot00 so what?

  • @00tommot00 And that is saying something, considering canada does not exist. But then again, neither does linux.

  • linux no tiene soporte racional para todos, es decir no es cómodo para todos los usuarios, solo para las personas preparadas en sistemas.

  • there are 30 million users but none payed XD

  • "How long have you've been standing there?"

    "Long time..."

    Boy, that hurt.

  • So Linux, I heard you're "open source".

  • Linux != novell

  • My computer would be a Pc if it ran OSx or Windows. It is a Super Computer (also personal) since it run linux

  • @Chintendoeddman What are you smoking that would make that make sense in your head?

  • @brainslurper It's called inspiration. I got a little inspiration to try something new. Sometimes change is a good thing.

  • @Chintendoeddman Linux is for people who can't afford buying Windows 7 or a mac

  • @Ucsemis Well seeing that I own both a macbook pro (17") and a copy of windows Vista I seem to have proved you wrong. If Linux cost something you would have said different. (PS, Windows Seven is a service pack for Windows Vista).

  • Woo! Windows Rules!!!! xD

  • 30 million linux users out of billions that use other systems.

  • @Teasedingo and how many of those billions actually have a genuine mac or pc os installed??

  • @ihall4 nearly all.

  • haha so awesome!!

  • I am viewing this in Linux.

  • Linux = super computers. Suck it.

  • @Galforg That claim is very, very interesting. And by interesting, I mean untrue, and by untrue, I mean you are a stupid fuck that needs to learn about hardware AND software, and how they interact with each other in the different operating systems, and then go and learn pretty much everything else about computers.

  • @brainslurper It appears you are mad. Why are you mad, though?

  • @FenrirLupus Overall I agree, but there are many people who can't afford a Mac. My hope is that Linux will become user-friendly enough for anyone to run, which is essentially the concept behind Mint I believe.

  • She's hot! I'm moving to Linux

  • I would not get linux for my pc, I would get her for me

  • Instead of an attractive brunette to personify Linux they should have used a dirty neckbeard. Keep in mind I type this from my laptop with Arch x86_64.....

  • MAC RULES!!!!

  • Goldie.

  • An attractive female Linux user?

    AAAAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!

Would've been more accurate to have some fat, smelly neckbeard horking his inhaler and regaling them constantly about how they're both evil and he's the epitome of freedom...until they both get tired of it and work together to beat his fat, pimpled ass.

  • PC =! Windows

  • Mac > Linux. Mac > Windows. Windows > Linux.

  • Yes sir!

  • awesome

  • @MagicRevealer09

Just because it's free doesn't mean it's bad. In fact it's actually very good if you know how to use a computer well or you're willing to learn a new OS. Most newer linux distros are pretty user-friendly so you don't even have to use the command interface for most stuff.

Saying something sucks because it's free is extremely ignorant (Firefox, AVG, Adobe Reader...all very popular and all free).

  • You're right... I'm going to give linux a try :)

  • K cool :)

Just know that it is different. It's not really hard to use, but you may have to look up some tutorials because it's not anything like Windows.

  • Ok...

  • Better apache than iiS!

  • @MagicRevealer09 Are you trolling sir? Linux Mint is 100% better then Mac, there's not one redeeming quality Mac has and as for Windows, the only problem is Nexon games in which case you can just run W/i/ndows off of VMware. There's no reason to use anything else unless you like viruses.

  • @FluffyLizards HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA nexon. Why the fuck would you want to play something by nexon, when windows and OSX can run steam and battle.net games natively.

  • You know what else is free? Consensual sex. By your logic, the only way to get good sex is to pay some ugly drug-addict hooker. Free doesn't mean shit.

  • @Koda924 That is probably the best free=bad counter ive ever heard

  • @DudemcmanStudios Lol I posted that a while ago and it made me laugh. Thanks, man. It is a pretty good counter argument. Haha.

  • i recently got a new laptop. It came with Windows 7 and frankly telling-i was not impressed.

So out went Windows 7 and in came openSUSE 11.2 . Although i am a Linux newbie, i keep learning something new everyday.(you should really check out openSUSE)

  • Linux operating systems run on PCs though, Macs completely different :s

  • Linux and Mac OS are not really completely different... Linux and Mac OS are both unix-like OS just like BSD... Linux , and Mac OS both run CrossOver that is basically the same program as WINE.

Not only that Mac OS can run on standard PC's there are ways to do it, but Apple doesn't want people to do it they say you are braking the law and violates Apple's EULA...

    Look up unix-like OS...

  • This used to be true when they had the PowerPC hardware, but now they use x86 like PCs always had. Now the limitation is that Mac only supports very limited hardware. Linux can be installed on Mac Hardware, even PowerPC hardware.

  • @thekeyring Mac is a brand of personal computer, like dell, or hp. Linux and windows can run on a mac through boot camp, which comes free on every mac. however, non macs cannot run OSX, because they do not have compatible hardware.

  • uhh wuts linux?

  • "Linux or GNU/Linux is a free and open source software operating system for computers. The operating system is a collection of the basic instructions that tell the electronic parts of the computer what to do and how to work. Free and open source software (FOSS) means that everyone has the freedom to use it, see how it works, and change it."

  • n the field of animation and visual effects, most high end software, such as AutoDesk Maya, Softimage XSI and Apple Shake, is available for Linux

In the film industry, Linux has been the platform of choice for several years. The first major film produced on Linux servers was Titanic in 1997. Since then major studios like Dreamworks Animation, Pixar and Industrial Light & Magic have moved to Linux. .. 95% of the servers and desktops at large animation and visual effects companies use Linux

  • and there are like 4 billion windows user so fuck off linux

  • Hahahah I agree

  • Yes, but you and every one else in the world use Linux every day ,and don't even know it... Even Google runs on Linux server, and many of the web servers are Linux, or BSD...

  • Actually, none of those programs use linux, they use network servers running C++ based programs. Linux is only used by hackers and lazy bums who cannot work on their own OS and network servers. Besides google runs its own server based on windows c++ tech.

  • How about the "Google's Linux cluster" ? and Almost half of the 20,000 employees of Google use Goobuntu... Goobuntu is the unofficial name of a Linux distribution based on the 'long term support'-versions of Ubuntu...

The PS3 was made to run Linux... DELL makes Linux laptops.

Nope Linux is used more, and more every day.

  • Dell is shit though... there computers have so many problems its not funny. I would know first hand i own one. The battery doesn't hold a charge and the internal mouse doesn't work and it is really slow but part of that is from a small hard and vista slowing down the systems potential

  • Google Chrome OS is based off of Linux as well.

    Google supports the open source.

Google "google linux" and see what comes up.

  • Why do you hate Linux ? You must be a Mac user right ? Maybe you hate it because it's so much like Mac OS... maybe you hate it because Linux compiz fusion Looks better than Mac Spaces... or maybe you don't like it because it's free and better than Mac OS... maybe you don't like it because it is a Unix-like OS just like Mac OS... But most likely you have never used it, and have no clue how to use it.

  • Then eat shit, a billion flies can't be wrong.

  • Hi Linux! How are you??

  • Agree linux is GUI bla bla but to know these things you have to go to forums and net to understand the stuff. You just cant play around in linux to find out how stuff works. Why we cannot instal two three packages at single time ? Why the default interface is so sick that we have to customize it.

  • Windows has 90% of the OS market share.

  • only because people arent aware of the other choices that are out there

  • Lol, Awesome.

  • Yeah because linux is a program, right? you're a fuckin' retard. Go back to using a mac or M$.

  • rofl....linux is a FREE os.... a prog is something you install on an OS.... idiot!

  • rofl...Linux is an OS dimwit...a program is something you install on an OS... close yer mouth before you embarrass yourself

  • Depends on what distro you're using. Ubuntu is easier than windows lmao.

  • Linux isn't ready for anyone who actually uses a computer for more than browsing internet. It is extremely annoying to actually install anything on linux (why the fuck do i have to type in the terminal this isnt the 1980s) and finding installtion instructions is a pain in the ass, too. Now I admit I'm new to linux, but that is the point. I'm new to linux, and linux is extremely difficult to use for people who are new to it. I want a mother fucking autorun installer.

  • What have you had a hard time installing?

  • The question is for me "What haven't I had a hard time installing?" I tried installing winrar, I tried installing indeo codec codec, I tried installing an msn clone, I tried installing drivers for my graphics card, I tried installing my printer. The only things I got to install were the dvd codecs, Opera, and auto updates from linux themselves.

  • Somewhat of a delayed response o.O.

Why would you want WinRAR for Linux? If you don't like terminals, I don't see why you would install a terminal-only application. The standard File Archive and 7-Zip are far better.

MSN Clones (e.g. aMSN) can be installed via respositories via a few clicks. GPU drivers can vary but Intel and Nvidia's are rather easy to setup (i.e. Ubuntu will normally alert you of the availability of newer restricted drivers). Printer support varies.

  • I tried 7-zip. I prefer winrar, but for Linux i have to make concessions. Thanks, but I can see Linux will probably never be a main operating system for me.

  • Why do you use terminal? Almost every distribution have package manager nowadays.

  • Because I don't know what a package manager is. Like I said I'm new to Linux. And most people use on windows go to Google and type in the software they want in there.

  • The package manager in Ubuntu is Synaptic Package Manager which is accessible from System -> Administration. There isn't much you HAVE to do from the terminal. When people give advice, they often provide terminal instructions (unless GUI-support is requested) because there is minimal room for the person to miss up (i.e. it is hard to mess up on copy + paste whereas GUI instruction can vary based on desktop environment, release version, custom settings, etc.).

  • @destroyerko Because if you know what you are oing it's faster and easier. Plus package management has nothing to do with a GUI.

  • umm... yeah. we only suggest you use the terminal because it might be quicker than going through everything else. there are simpler ways, but they take a hell of a long time....(for me)

  • Terminal is better.

Let's admit you want to install a program. On Windows you have to run a browser, use google and find a website to dl it. You cannot be sure it's secure so you use an antivirus. Then you install it and it says you need framework or so, then you go to google etc. Later you have to verify if there is updates, and manually download it

On Linux, if you use apt you type : apt-get install program. It will download it, install prerequisites, do automaticly updates and it's secured.

  • well today in Ubuntu (most popular dist of linux) you dont have to use the terminal at all, installing programs directly, from both internet and synaptic or add/remove programs..

  • terminal is long gone, linux has gui functionality now, same as mac/pc

  • And thats not even considering printers..

In windows you have to install the drivers BEFORE plugin the printer.. then plug it.. configure it .. test it, configure , etc.

In Linux you only plug it ..and thats it , in 80% printers it will install itself without further intervention.. (and almost all of the rest 20% are Canon wich doesnt support Linux because Canon doesnt want to release drivers or add any Linux support)

  • ATTENTION!!! why do Microsoft Windows ahve to fight with mac if they can just understand that some people like windows and that some people like macs and that some people like linux which i have never used and i can never find pics of linux docks or window boxs displays so yeah.......why cant they just settle with that people like these things and people like those things and im trying to choose whether i should get a mac or windows laptop cuz im gonna get one sometime soon....

  • that depends, what do you need this laptop for?

  • If you like music and pictures, Mac. If you like everything then PC. PC is for the people who don't want to limit themselves to 2 things.

  • uhhh these commercials are made by mac (i dont mean this specific one cause it's a spoof) so basically it's not windows that's trying to fight mac it's mac that's trying to fight windows...

  • Because Apple released a ton of commercials for many years (or decades) insulting "PCs" which were usually targeting either MS or Windows? MS only started releasing their own commercials relatively recently which still don't directly criticize Apple unlike the Apple ones which attack MS a few times. These commercials specifically are made by Novell endorsing Linux. I have my old Linux desktop posted here. If you wish to see a dock specifically search Cairo Dock or AWN.

  • Good question. Why has Apple been making anti-PC ads since the early 1980s then? Business competition is often dishonest, and most people have no clue about either type of computer.

  • OK so lets get this straight

Linux is bragging about its 30mil users

Mac has around 140 and Windows has an estimated 500+ million sold

...good job linux...(clap for the slow OS)

  • 30 million is a pretty good number for an OS without any kind of publicity in the mainstream media and aimed for the experienced user.

  • meh- its does have mainstream media its full of all those people screaming linux is the best you all suck, also these appear to be forum whores. and while 30 million is good...nowhere near mac or windows and its not growing as fast either

  • By mainstream I mean television, internet ads, and stuff that Apple and Microsoft have all around.

  • yeah linux should get on that if they have have any aspirations seriously

  • Well you should know that Linux is not some big corporation or something like that, it is based on it's community, and mostly, it's community is the only one that advertises it.

  • yeah but communities can still work together- i just think linux needs to announce their arrival more there shadows

  • Its awesome considering it has no publicity.. shops dont force you to use it (like Vista wich came in almost all modern computers whatever you like it or not) and most programers doesnt care about Linux because they are "brided" by Microsoft and only program games and soft for windows...

And then are all those lies and confussion about old Linux wich have little to do with today distros..

And even with those brakes it has 30M users, and the most powerfull computers in the world run Linux

  • well good for the IBM sc's but i'll stick with the most popular one, now with fancy 7!

  • Linux is a dirty whore.

  • Being a whore implies selling something. Linux is free.

  • First of all it pisses me off because all computers are PCs or Personal Computers. These are Operating Systems people it has nothing to do with the hardware, at least not anymore. So your are either a Windows, Mac OS or Linux Person but not PC. Microsoft loves to keep this myth alive.

  • If you where not illiterate, then you would realise in the Mac vs PC advert they are referring to PC as every other OS and Mac as the opposition on it own.

Mac vs Everything, not just Windows.

  • I do not waste time on answering nonsense but I feel compelled to write a rebuttal to your comment. If I were illiterate, then I would not be able to write a comment and you do not need to be literate to watch the Mac commercials or understand them. You are stating the obvious that they refer to every other PC as every other OS. Since Mac switched to Intel microprocessors, all computers are the same hardware so all can run every OS. Thus Windows is not defined as PC even though the ads say so.

  • That's not possible.

I mean, they say that PC is not safe, get viruses and stuff like that.

But Linux doesn't get viruses at all.

  • That depends on how you define personal computer.

Either a personal computer is a private computer instead of a public computer or a personal computer is a custom computer you assembled from hardware and other components you handpicked yourself instead of an already assembled computer sold bundled with software. In the latter case, the commercials make perfect sense save for the false advertising.

  • 30 millions users? slutttttt

  • only 30M?

theres hundreds of M for mac and pc

  • yeah, but 30 M in 7 years, not in 20 o 30 years

and since this video, now we are more than 35 M for sure ;)

  • Ahh. 30m in 7 years. thats about 4,2 m a year. And if that guy was right about 500m microsoft users then in 30 years microsoft has gained more users 16,6m a year. Thats about 4 times more a year :p

  • yes, but Microsoft spent a lot of money to get there. Linux is doing pretty well, when you think of the budget comparison.

  • Does linux support ANAL? :x who0ps.

  • Anyone want to point out the fact that a Linux usually uses a PC and a MAC can run windows now... so saying that Linux and PCs are mutually exclusive is a falsehood, aspecially when you in the same 55 second video says that MACs and PCs are mutually exclusive... the Older guy would have to be Windows, the younger guy MacOS and the chick thats Linux would be some sort of Quad-Sexual... (at least more the bi-sexual as you can get linux on more then 2 types of computers..)

    ...?

  • thirty million, bwa ha ha.

  • This commercial reeks of smug satisfaction even more than the Mac commercials do.

Ugh. This is only going to make people who have never heard of Linux, hate Linux.

  • since you we're a female once, would that make you a male trans-gender.

  • linux looks sexy

  • GO ON SON ;)

  • yeah but only 3% of the microsoft computers takes up the big job like runing servers( database like ebay, facebook, amazon etc). ~Linux is still great since the cost of only one server can buy about 100 or more PCs.

Dell for example will recommend Vista,xp,Winnt but will never recommend Windows servers. the standard of computing in higher learning centres like universities is still linux, and student who own PCs have to download a program that give them a linux interface on there PC.

  • you know Linux actually runs ON pc's, so you are making a contradictory statement.

  • I think, big Corporate are the prime example to let you believe Windows are the best and safest, but you know I think that just bull, cause how many virus and spyware have there been not to mention hackers, but if you see here Mac is a much more safer for avoiding all those threat I've mention, even Linux in other hand are in better position for guarding those, just look at IE08 for e.g it full of bugs

  • lynix is good because its free and its built buy people for people(if you get where im coming from)

but it lacks a lot of features

also im confused, a few people i know put os x on there PC and iv seen it working so im confused why people say u cant

  • 1) learn to spell.

    2) it's possible to format windows to look like os x, and it's possible to install os x IF they have all the right hardware. also, most people that install it on windows computers are chumps and don't research anything, resulting in alot of failing software.

    lynix is spelled linux

its does not mean it is

linux doesn't lack any features, it's open source.

  • You're a pretty rude person.

    1)Get some people skills

    2)Get a life

    3)Get a mac

  • 1)Yeah, I'm working on that

    2)I have one

    3)I have a macbook pro

I just know things. And remember, the internet is serious business. That's why I should be polite on it to people I will never meet.

  • no excuse to be rude....

if your not gonna answer like a human fucking being....

    dont at all

    GIMP!

  • he asked a question if your not gonna answer like a human fucking being GET SCREWED and dont post

  • linux doesn't actually lack any feature. there's a linux alternative to everything you do with a mac or a windows pc.

what happens is that to get those alternatives up and running it takes a bit more time and patience than the "point-and-click" method we're used to with windows and macs. but that's rapidly changing with linux distributions like ubuntu, that are much more user friendly than what we're used to see.

  • also, as kids today are already born in front of a computer, we can expect older people in the near future to be at least a little bit more skilled with computers than today's 30 plus year-olds. so they might be more open to learning linux than they are now.

and schools are teaching kids to use compuers very early, and many choose linux because of the cost, so i'd say linux has a very promising future. it may have a market share bigger than macs one day, and without all the advertising.

  • So you're telling me I can run my electro-magnetic transient software for EHV transmission lines that I use in Grad School in Linux?

  • how am i supposed to know?

  • I am being sarcastic. People always tell me that everything runs on Linux or that there is an alternative to every program for everything you do (this is what you said). When I show them 6 different research programs that I use daily for my research and how no alternative exists they don't really have much to say. Some of them speak about emulation but I really don't see the point in switching to Linux if everything I have to do needs to be emulated in Windows at a slower rate.

  • Yes...

  • with windows you can run alot of games and other apps but you cant realy use mac apps. with mac you can do basicly the same thing exept you can run windows apps with bootcamp.

linux can run windows and mac apps and is way more stable then mac or windows ppl that say linux suck are just mad becuse they dont no how to use linux

  • linux sucks

  • no...no it doesnt

  • yes it does!

  • no it doesnt

  • He's right though, it blows hard.

  • 1 think that ppl dont know..

Linux does operate in alot of things besids PC while MAC does it just in macs ^^

  • ...and there is an estimated 5 000-50 000 new Linux users every day. And about everyone converts from Windows!

  • Well that makes windows users about... 1,401,692,307 (or 2,336,153,846 if you use the lowest number predicted by you previuosly on this page)

SOmething you blissfully leave out is how many people START using windows everyday, lets see how those match up? (I obtained these figures from wikipedia, they show that 91.11% of OS used on desktop are windows and only 1.95% are linux)

  • Linux isnt ready yet...

When its done its gonna be cool!

  • LAWLZ there's an estimated 862,000,000 windows users around the world. (though I will admit that some copies are illegal)

  • play any good games lately?

  • You realize Apple has "copied" GNU/Linux in more ways the contrary, right?

  • wow 30,000,000 linix users out of 6,500,000,000 people in the world!

amazing! thats 0.4percent of the world!

  • NOTE: It is something between

    50 000 000-100 000 000 Linux users today

  • still, that is only 0.7%-1.5% of people in the world

  • yeah and 97% of the internet web servers run linux and freebsd.

  • this vid is just messed up...

    nothing like apple would do

  • I'm sorry, but you're not supposed to steal someone's idea for an ad, especially a company's idea, and use it against them and then go and put it on youtube.

in other words, Mac rocks weather you like it or not.

  • Linux should be some overweight finnish basement dweller.
