  • I'm tired of all this talk about him lip syncing. Guys, voices get tired. Your throat gets sore, your head feels like it's on fire because you're not getting enough air for the chords your belting out. I'm sur there were songs before this one. They have forever to record studio songs to get everything right. Do you see the gulps of air he takes before every chorus? That's real. Shinedown's a great band, so let's enjoy it.

  • @ 3:35 volume cuts out = not lip synching the thinkness of the voice can be reverb delay and chorus effect indeed voval backing tracks, could be vocal harmonist etc.

  • Regardless of whether or not he's lip synching or not, it's not impossible to change the effects running on your voice mid song, so that's not a very strong argument. Either way, I think if you're going to record a song, you should make sure you can do it live. It doesn't have to be as perfect, but that's the way it should be.

  • Ive met brent in person...trust me...he can sing higher than friggin gas prices

  • ive seen them several times, and yes right here he might be lip synching for the dvd, however ive also been right up front and he didnt sound perfect like the cd, he sounded fucking awsome because it was live and he was putting forward the live effort and emotion. thats why he rules

  • Go look up "Shinedown I Dare You Acoustic" and watch the video of Brent on the couch singing.

Watch like 0:50 and on of that video. He's singing the chorus HORRIBLY and it's his actual voice.

You're telling me that THAT can recreate Diamond Eyes live exactly like the record? Bullshit.

I love Shinedown and I think Brent can have a great voice, but it goes all over the place. I saw the Carnival of Madness and I honestly thought he was lip syncing... :/

  • Thats right no one better dislike this!!

  • woah. he looks really stocky with his hair up

  • I totally understand why he backtracked some parts, it's pretty much impossible to hit all those notes perfectly arranged in the recorded. But since i think they were recording shows on this tour for a dvd it makes sense, they just wanted a much more solid sounding product. Nothing wrong with that.

  • He obviously lip syncs the chorus. I love SD, I've been a fan for as long as I can remember, but it's almost TOO obvious.

  • All you dumb shits that think hes lip syncs, not the case, during the chours there is a backing track that he sings with, he sings every note, hes not perfect and knowone is.. It sounds great and is meant to be entertaining.. I freakin hate critics!! Fags!!

  • Speechless this leaves me :)

  • @4T5Scott yoda you are not!

  • His voice suddenly gets so much smoother in the chorus. And at 4:54 there is no doubt he is lip syncing. I lost so much respect for him. I'd rather him not be able to hit high notes than lip syncing because it's not honest.

  • i <3 shinedown im aware Brent Lipsyncs the Chorus but he dnt need to pretend hes jack black when he sings it to make it obvious :L

  • There's definitely a click track and some augmented backing vocals in the chorus. But they're all singing, this isn't Milli Vanilli (look it up kids if you don't know them, you'll get a good laugh.. Pop band from the late 80's had a Grammy taken back after it was found they didn't even sing on their album, and live shows were 100% taped.) Shinedown is the real deal and I have no problem with a backing track if used VERY selectively.

  • He's NOT lip-syncing, I've seen them more than once so I know for a fact that he doesn't.

Brent Smith is not that kind of musician.

Yes, there's a background track, but he is singing! The entire song.

  • You guys sure about his sync? I know that youtube fucks up sometimes by uploading a vid. So the sound is not sync with the movie itself. Cant it be just like that?

  • singers work on their vocals like body builders and muscles, they train their vocal cords over long periods of time. ur watching these from damn cell phones for one, and two even at a show its so damn loud u couldnt tell unless u see lip movement when u shouldnt which ive never seen with these guys, i guarantee he's not lip syncing

  • it's actually pretty sad to see... they've sold theirselves out ever since the new album came out, from hearing their songs on top 40 stations to seeing them lipsync at their concerts

  • do you listen to the strain in his voice on the albums during the choruses? no one can honestly hit those vocals everynight for 2 hours a night.. some he can, but honestly his voice is insane to hear live and just because he lip syncs some choruses every now and then doesnt take away from the musicianship in his voice.. a voice isnt like a guitar, it cant sound the same and take the same abuse

  • These guys were awesome in manchester last year

  • I love Shinedown more than any band out there, but I hate to say it....I think he does lipsync selectively. They all have click tracks going in their in-ear monitors so the actually playing can line up seamlessly with the backing tracks. I'm not advocating lipsyncing or auto tune or any of that but I can understand why he does it. Singing like that basically every night since 2003 can really take its toll on vocal ability and consistency is a whole whole other battle.

  • i think you're all retards to be honest, there isnt ANY lip syncing :P

  • @19MetalMan93 if you can't tell that he's lip-syncing you are seriously musically challenged...the tone of his voice and the volume of the mic changes in the chorus

  • @rnrmustang no it dont lol

  • @rnrmustang Lol you don't know how mics and speakers work like that do you..

  • @rnrmustang You honestly need to learn about mics and speakers when used in a concert like that before you say he lip syncs.

  • @rnrmustang He sings the song. Why can't he sing it again and again, he did it once on demo, once on an album, and now all the sudden he cant sing live? There is something called being a professional, professionals can do it over and over. Thats why you need to be GOOD when you become BIG. I don't think this dude lip syncs every concert, he may every once in a while for a breath or two during a few words in a song, but not every chorus.

  • I love this band an no i haven't had the chance to see them yet because i live in australia and i dont go to festivals but seriously if any of you want to discuss whether Brent lip syncs on not you know you can take the matter up with him he is on twitter you know just concerntrate on the positives about the band

  • this is the 2nd video i looked at to confirm the lip syncing... and he is, i mean check out the wobbly elbow (dad playing singstar/kareoke) technique... =/

On another note, really cool song and would be a great act to see live

  • saw shinedown at white river ampetheatre 27th. i swear... i couldve brought anything into that place. no pad downs. they just looked, scanned ticket and let you go. lol

  • @bearhuggify1 do we really need to return to the topic of talent or have you finally learned that brent is just an amazing singer

  • @soxfan15195841 I've seen them live 4 times. I know he's an amazing singer. But he's clearly lip syncing the chorus. I saw the Carnival of Greed myself, front row, and watched him lip sync choruses to half the show.

  • @bearhuggify1 he is such a fake. seen them 3 fukn times and everytime brent had trouble singin his own shit. I'm a singer myself and do his songs better than he does live, and I'm stuck in a cover band. I can hold my own as well as others who can't. Therefore no more live shinedown(Millie Vanilli) shit for me

  • @bearhuggify1 your right, but if you were him could you hit those notes all the time with-out losing your voice? i dont think you could, i agree with morecowbell22 hes right, your also right but hes got a point

  • @bearhuggify1 Brent doesn't FUCKING LIP Sync Okay!!!! So don't bash or put Shinedown down okay

  • @SamuelH17 i hate to burst your bubble , but he is lip singing. i"ve seen Shinedown live twice and i'm very aware of how Bret sings live. he was all over the place the first time i saw them. and the second time ( Carnival Of Madness ) Bret was all over the place on the verses and the bridge parts but on the chorus his voice seemed to be perfect.. that is clear lip syncing right there.. but , i must say , they do put on a show like no other!

  • @soxfan15195841 i agree. @bearhuggify1 has to ruin it for real SD fans.

  • @2111powers I think it's odd that you consider yourself a bigger fan than me just because you don't hold the band to a higher standard. You are only fooling yourself if you think he's naturally singing this chorus perfectly every night. Check I Dare You, Sam, Alice, Heroes.. He lip synced the choruses to all of these on this tour. He's been lip syncing I Dare You for years. Listen to him sing it @ Rock on the Range (truly live) then listen to it at different stops on this tour (lip synced)

  • @KentuckyBoyss

COM tour is 4th time I have seen them live, going all the way back to their 1st tour in 2003. You're right, the songs in the set off of Leave a Whisper were live, vocals and all.

My previous shows were great, I get Brent's voice being beat up, and that really doesn't detract from the show to me. But this tour has damaged my image of them badly. It is just not cool to buy tickets to a band that you consider one of the best and they're not really performing live, even parts.

  • Woulda been nice if you coulda got some shots of the rest of the band... Ya know, like when the guitar solo was being played and you stayed on Brent and the drummer... just sayin

  • Diamond Eyes

    Her Name Is Alice

    Second Chance

    Crow & the Butterfly

    I Dare You

    Heroes

    Son of Sam

    Choruses all lip synced

    .....to name a few..

  • @bearhuggify1 go watch sum justin beiber vids you tool

  • @cubavalo Ha is that the only defense you have?? Brent lip syncs the chorus on this song as well as many others. Justin Bieber lip syncs, too.

  • He's lip syncing about 1/3 of the songs in their set. Just saw them last night. It's just the chorus in each one. Shame they used to be one of the best live bands.

  • @jcpaww Only the new ones he did maybe. the rest you can definately tell he wasnt.

now see them as many times as me and my dad have then you can say whatever.

You are correct, the songs they played off of Leave a Whisper were performed live.

I have seen them 4 times going all the way back to their 1st tour in 2003, and I wish I could still say they ARE one of the best live bands I've seen, but as a fan, my impression of them is irreparably changed after this tour. It sucks to buy tickets to see one of your favorite bands and their front man is not really performing the songs live. Not cool... even if it's just parts.

  • How can you say he is lip syncing in this song?

  • Hooray for lip syncing

  • @bearhuggify1 If he was syncing there wouldnt be parts where hes short on breaths and dropping octaves.

  • @Xfacta12482 Do you know what a chorus is?

  • @Xfacta12482 He lip syncs the CHORUS. You know, the part that sounds exactly like the album version

  • @bearhuggify1

going to jump in this debate. i saw them on their last tour in kennewick, wa. brent is signing the verses, he screws up sometimes. but there is NO way he can go from his normal voice to a perfect voice in the chorus'. its just nickleback all over again....and i payed good $ for that shit

  • @bearhuggify1 So what! You'd need a titanium voice box and balls the size of grapefruits to belt out those notes all the time!

  • great song!

  • rock on!!!
