  • So he's certain that God doesn't exist? That's a pretty high burden of proof to hold..

  • @StygianDysnomia

    a *HUGE*!!!! burdon

  • I like Peter Atkins more after watching this video lol.

  • Ultimately the only scientifically supportable position is agnosticism. However, the odds are close to zero that any human religion is remotely correct that it's not even really worth worrying about. It was probably ultimately driven by the same force that drives science, i.e. to explain the world, but before any scientific method was available. It can have some ethical value of course, but it can also be horribly misused, because it is not fact based.

  • Poor people... It's gonna be interesting when he will meet the One :)

Government is paying him for his position and that why he must be atheist. I feel sorry about this. I thought in Oxford professors are smarter. Of course there are some :)

  • @zzzak123: Faith is a hollow shell. A very narrow minded view of how to arrive at knowledge. The idea that we should believe something in spite of evidence is rather laughable and the Mcdonald's philosophy of theists who try and philosophize without adequate training is almost dizzying in its lack of intellectual rigor. Most people who think they are theists are really just lazy thinkers anyway. "The absence of belief" means that you positively disbelieve.

    There. Fixed that for you.

Most people who think they are atheists are really just agnostics anyway. "The absence of belief" means one suspends judgement not that you positively disbelieve.

  • @Drgamedood All views concerning pathways to knowledge are limited by the subjective nature of the view.

It's all a hollow shell dependent on dogmatic indoctrinated beliefs about meaning. The subjective world you actually exist in my friend. the illusion of meaning.

  • This guy's pretty arrogant and he isn't very good at conveying his points to an audience...the key point to a debate. I am an atheist too lol...

  • Yes; atheists can be moral; and atheists can be awed as well; by the universe.

  • First class scientist. First class thinker.

  • On youtube: Famous atheists last words before dying

  • i have seen that journalist doing other docs before .... he is a prick

  • How can one be so certain that there is no teapot in saturns rings? What about the 20% of scientists that believe in the celestial teapot???

  • "What's wrong with arrogance if you're right?"

    Call the spade a spade!

    Theism is bullsh*t!

  • @cartmanspp2 It would if it had no arguments for God's existance. Sadly for you, atheism is the position wich has NO evidence against the existance of God. FAIL

  • The expression "blind science" is self-contradictory, and debauches the very concept of scientific inquiry. The dismissal of science as just another form of religion is an old and appallingly cheap piece of rhetorical sophistry that is very easy to see through. Education serves both to open and to close the mind, as appropriate. When the relevant observations overwhelmingly support one among several possible explanations, the educated take this seriously and proportion their belief accordingly.

  • i'm mormon and I like this guy.

for his scientific knowledge I mean.

  • Believeing that water molecules could be turned into wine by devine power, dead could be resurrected, blinds could be healed by divine power, snakes can speak, there are winged horses that can take prophets to heaven, earth is flat, etc and anyone who doesnt believe this will have their body applied into extreme heat for infinite time after they are dead. Well do you really want these theory to go hand in hand with the SCIENCE???

  • So you are of the opinion that science tells us that there is no hell for our souls? Can you cite me to a scientific study of that? I would love to see that one get through an institutional review board. Science deals with the natural, not the supernatural. That's why science and religion complement each other so well. There is little conflict.

  • Do you know where the heck the hell is located?? Is is located in the universe or multiverse or cosmos??

  • I don't no where it is located or even locatable. Also, we have no evidence at all for the multiverse. It takes as much faith to believe in a multiverse as it does to believe in God. The way hell is described in the Bible, it doesn't sound much like a physical place, e.g. no atoms, energy, space or distance. But it doesn't really matter, it is a supernatural concept. It may be true or it may not be. But in no way is it in conflict with science, but you seem to think science has studied it.
