If you are thinking about getting one of these, do your self a favor and rent one for a week. I just got back from Washington where I had one of these for a week. It was a LONG week. The turning radius is HUGE! It steers like a cruise ship in a desert. It had 31K miles on it, it felt like it had 90k. The interior was cheap, the power doors usually worked, the power train was sluggish and jerky and loud. DO NOT BUY THIS VAN. You will regret it within a month.
@M67v Hence why I said rent one for a week. Don't take it for a 15 minute test drive. Use it and drive it like you would your own car. Put it through it's paces, do u turns, parallel park it, accelerate hard, brake hard, accelerate slow and brake gently, load it full of people and go for a two hour drive and find out what the passengers think, these are all things we did with our rental, I would highly recommend everyone to do something similar. You'll be glad you did.
@tldodge1001 I got one but if i were you i would have gone with the dodge caravan the interior feels cheap as American cars and over all it feels if your driving a dodge caravan so i would gone with the dodge.
bullshit. he "knew" that the car sucks before he heard of it. boss threat? VW is quality car and i bet that if design is american, engineering is german. that's what it makes a quality car.
The design and engineering are almost all American, the only thing vw did was put a slightly stiffer (rougher riding) suspension in it. Even the engine and transmission are Chrysler. American engineering FTW!
The backseats totally reminds me of a '99 Renault Scenic. You can remove the seats the same way,(tilting the halfway up) and the car also has the same bins . .
Btw the Routan is not available in Germany. In Germany the car is called "Touran" and a pretty good Van
it is unfortunate to hear our american products as junk considering that we have the best engineers and resources here in the motherland. this is obviously a marketing strategy ployed by both chrysler and vw. unfortunately, some enthusiasts of german engineering got conned if you may call it that way. we need to make HIGH QUALITY cars then buy our very own for the sake of economy.
Basically, pay x000$ more to get a VW sign in front of your minivan instead of a Chrysler sign. Not worth it... Maybe if it was at around the same price... Better suspension? All depends on what your definition of a good suspension is... Some pple don't like stiff german suspension; especially in a minivan where your seating position is different. VW should of made one on they're own.
VW is shit in the states because they're built in the states, and they still hold the premium price of a GERMAN car. VW also doesn't offer half the models they do in Europe (scirocco etc).. We in the USA just get the weak boring models, the only reason they sell is because of the VW badge.
Even worse, they're made in Mexico, cheaper labour, but they still keep the price of a German quality vehicle, not to mention parts are expensive for a shit car.
vw can make minivans, they have it for the european market, its called the sharan, but like usual, america is being cheated of a good van and just gets a rebadged unreliable chrysler.
I think it would've been nice if Volkswagen used their own engines instead of using Chrysler engines. This guy spent most of the review talking about the negatives of the car. He didn't mention fuel economy or what trim levels you can have with it. This was a bias review and I thought their reviews weren't supposed to be bias?
what a stupid review. didn't mention 1 thing about the engine, transmission, fuel economy ect. Don't do reviews and waste my time unless you do them right.
Joe is a funny guy and all but again, you guys forget you are reviewing a car and not a piece of furniture. How come you didn't say anything about how it actually drives? Performance, engine refinement, noise reduction, steering, ease of use in town, fuel mileage etc. I don't get why all of the carscom reviews are like that. Maybe the only things that matter for the American consumer are cup holders and luggage space.
Honda odyssey. Get real people. Why would u waste ur money on junk. Honda forever.

If you're considering a Routan, just get the Chrysler Town and Country.
You get more for your money for less, despite the fact that they are both the same vehicle.
But, if you really want a decent minivan, get a Honda Odyssey.

I whis I could get one here in EU
I like it way more than the chrysler!

i am dissapointed in vw. its not like they cant make minivans. its just a rebadged dodge, which is a good minivan.
197 hp is NOT enough power for 8 passengers and 16 city mpg is not impressive either.
Now if it was a vw diesel i would buy it in a heartbeat.
