Who knows if anyone reads this, but for those who do I don't expect you to care or understand. I'm a 17 year old young man who loves Phil Collins, This song was played at my Dads funeral, he was tragically killed in a traffic collision on his way home from work in summer 2011. After his funeral my mum told me that he always wanted to tell me the lyrics to this song... he never got around to it. Now whenever I hear this song I instantly think of him and his smile. Always brings me to tears :'(.

WTF has happened to the music industry now? Why dont we see Greats like Phil . Sting and Bruce any more? These guys and also others of their generation did so much for Music when they were young , what are todays so called 'STARS' doing?

I used to carry a piece of paper in my wallet when my kids were too young to understand what I wanted to say. It said just to listen to this song. Until you are ready to lay your life down on the line for your children, to bear things that, at least to me, destroy my soul, you can't understand this song. My youngest daughter has at least to become to somewhat appreciate Phil's music and ability. It's strange, but that makes me feel good.
I lost my dad 30 years when I was 24..a day hasnt passed since then that I havent thought about him.....I have a son who right now is going through a tough time in his life,,,I sent him this video and hope it gives him some more strength.....

Came across this only because I'd been listening to the King's Singers' a cappella version. While Phil does sing it with a lot more feeling (there's only so much room you have for that in a 6-part harmony) this original is kinda boring now :(

Therefore, any of us might take the liberty to dedicate this song, based on its lyrics, to any loved person---anyone we truly care for. Nothing or no one will ever fill in that void. This song brings tears to my eyes, even though they are no longer with us, they are not suffering any more and are watching over us every day. One day we will all be reunited with the loved ones we have lost...and what better place to reunite than in heaven.

Wow, what a great video.
I didn't know that there is such a great video existing.
BS is indeed a great album but FTS is one of the top.
The crazy thing is, the "little" songs of the album are for sure better ones.
I still love FTS due to the soft melody, the great lyrics the fantastic video.

his son was being a bit of a ass at the time i mean comeon phil gives him around 100000 quid every year. and his son thought he wasnt being surpportive enough with his career. hence the very personnal song. good song though.

This song is for my son who lives in Norway and I in the states. He moved with his mom when he was 14 and now is 20. Thank you Phil for pulling my heart strings and helping me think about him. This song is in my Ipod and listen always.

being a phil collins fan, but not a die hard, i've always had "...but seriously" in my album collection but just listened to the whole thing cover to cover today. This song appears nearly the end of the album... I've never heard this track before. Its amazing!!

My Beloved Husband considered this song, his legacy to his son. We played it for him, and gave him Phil's loving lyrics. My husband lost his battle with cancer, July,2009, but those sentiments will live forever!! Thanks, Phil

@blondiern56 also at the time i had a daughter when her mother took her from me, i paid her mothers debts off then she said goodbye. i have not seen my daughter or new born son. we all have something dont we. i lost my jobs my business two houses. back at my mams, so i should be lucky to have my mum. keep your chin up, you will get there.

@blondiern56 God bless you and your entire family. My father lost his battle with lung cancer back in Nov of 09 so I know the feeling of having lost some one. Nothing or no one will ever fill in that void. This song brings tears to my eyes, even though they are no longer with us, they are not suffering any more and are watching over us every day. One day we will all be reunited with the loved ones we have lost...and what better place to reunite than in heaven.

great song, one of my alltime songs.
Because my father well, well i dont want to call im father.
He only slept with my father thats all.
He has no love for me, he never gave me love, Money(yes i know, money is not everything) or eg...He wanted my mother, but never a child, because he wanted to be free, going out with friends, drinking beer, he nearly done a suicide.
I hope he will recognize me, but i dont think so since my birthday. Now I am 14 and he still dont know me.
