@bymacorg Yes but with that device you cannot 1) Automatically pan during the time-lapse 2) Program a daily sleep period during which no images are taken 3) Take multiple exposures varying the exposure at each interval ( for HDR) 4) Use the same device to make gigapixel panoramas. These are all things you can do with AutoMate.
@TheGadgetWorks Hi. Its a fixed device. no entended for pan. Automate works only for cameras with connector for a remote. TEMPUS works wireless for all cameras with infrared. TEMPUS ALL works with ALL cameras whatsoever. TEMPUS ALL can take multiple exposures at each interval HDR, yes. you can set your camera for HDR mode, and let TEMPUS ALL press the shutter for you. And then there is price: Tempus is 60 USD. How much is AutoMate?
@bymacorg According to the web site, the price for Tempus is $149, not $60. AutoMate costs $399. But like i said, it can make panning time-lapses, gigapixel panoramas, is programmable in many ways and can control a professional DSLR (all of which have wired remotes). But the Tempus is a great option for the market it addresses. BTW, AutoMate can take up to 11 bracketed shots in HDR mode and almost no camera made today can do more than 3 and few P&S cameras can even do that.
@TheGadgetWorks Hi. TEMPUS infrared is 69USD. check it at tempus.bymac.org .TempusALL Mechanical Time-lapse is 149 USD (tempusALL.bymac.org ). I'm sure that at 399USD your device is aimed at professional well funded people. Tempus is directed to anyone who want to do Time-lpase photography with no complication or wires, and without spending a fortune.
haha cool idea... now for weddings, graduations and other celebration monets you dont have to pay round $150 every time... with this one u pay once and u rock xD
Just received mine, works pretty cool, compact and lightweight at an attractive price compared to others, has a problem with the vertical nodal point, but with long range panos, 1 pixel (or less) of parallax does not really matter, excellent people to do business with, taking into account I'm on the other side of the planet :)
Or who don't have the steadiness of hand and eye, not to mention the patience, required to move the camera through a series of hundreds of sequentially overlapping photographs.
I was wondering if you would be interested in applying this on an underwater photography basis. This would be great if applied to the underworld. There are probably a few underwater camera housing manufacturers that would allow you in on their waterproofing connector technology. Obvisously it would be a programed and forget arraingment since diver down time is limited. Later retrieval would be in order. Marine researchers would love something so relatively cheap, portable and lightweight.
It can pan as slow as you want. You simply program it to move a step then wait as long as you want. At the top end, it pans at about 9 degrees per second. The smallest increment is about 0.2 degrees.
It looks like your using the Bescor MP-101 pan/tilt head. Did you create an interface that replaces the hand controller that you plug into your laptop? I've had issues with my Bescor drifting if you don't have proper balance with your camera mounted.
That is correct. The original wired controller is replaced by a Bluetooth connection to a hand-held controller. The hand-held controller can be a Windows Mobile PDA or cell phone or a laptop running Windows. To understand the full power of the control program, check out the user manual which is available from the web site.
@TheGadgetWorks how do you get rid of drifting problems? The MP-101 tilt motor can be backdriven with sufficient torque (i.e. imbalance in the payload mounting),
The control software now runs on a Windows laptop or desktop as well as any Bluetooth-capable phone or PDA running PocketPC 2003, Windows Mobile 5 or 6. The Mac version should be available soon.
Unfortunately, Apple has not yet exposed the Bluetooth API for the iPhone. Maybe a 3rd party version running on jailbroken phones can be created. If anyone knows how, let me know.
Could you translate that into English? The Google translation is "Genial wind into the microphone", which is sort of poetic but I am not sure if it is a good translation.
The Mac OS X version is in the works, but Apple has not exposed the Bluetooth API in the iPhone SDK. Word I get is that they have no intention of ever releasing it. And without Bluetooth, there is no way to connect to the robot. I am not sure if a third party Jailbreak app could do it or not.
I see its pluged into the camera...does that mean it can regonise the focal length of the lens and acount for it when making the shot? Or do you have to put that in your self?
You have to enter the focal length in the hand-held, where it is used, along with other parameters to compute how far to move for each frame. Once you enter it, you can save that info for later reload. Also, the program remembers the last values you used for everything, so often you don't have to change a thing. Check out the user manual, which you can find on The Gadget Works web site.
Make your add better--show the final panoramic at the end. Yeh, I know it won't have crap for quality, but watching it run I wanted to see the result.

This is great!
I'm going to look at the site details/instructions a bit, then I'm planning on getting on, right away.
Do you by chance have a system to do a vertical lift of the camera as well? Everything I'm finding online to do that is crazy expensive.
thanks for this!
