i have a foundation wall outside the house that's choppy and has a few holes, so i need to resurface and repair the chunks that fell off..
what type of cement mix do i need for this project.. someone advised me for a mix with stones in it..but that didn't do well at all. didn't stick to the wall or anything.
looks good..just like shotcrete ,, im a real stone lover too,,, however manmade thin stone is winning over on selection and use etc etc.. each to their own;!! nice alternative..
i have been doing stone FX for 4 yrs in the UK, The MIX (Mud)... whats in the MIX, this is the essential question??????????? Why not colour the initial mix to get you going?
@teamempowerment Would you be able to use PCL mortar on an interior fireplace for this? Maby go 1/2-3/4 of an inch and then cut in the joints? I'm still trying to figure out how you can get multiple colors from acid staining, although being a bricklayer I don't have much experience with staining concrete. I think it looks incredible!
@pdunnman Ive done hundreds of rock wall in my experience and i love the look. The problem I have is that a lot of customers just couldnt afford the real rock walls and I couldnt seem to charge enough. it took a long time and lot of labor cost to install the rock. if you do it then God bless you. This is a real rock alternative and looks a whole lot better and is stronger than block. 87 percent of all the contractors use block and we all know that block is nothing more than molded concrete.
@Arteolike Sorry it took so long to reply. We use a method called layering using black and white while we layer the colors achiving the granite look. We also use under layer earth tone colors to achieve different colors of granite.
what is the time frame you have to work on the walls while it's still workable? the wall, where you were interviewing you workers, was a small wall and it had to take some time to get it into a wall shape let alone carving the rocks, shaping, coloring, all while workabe... i've been a concrete mixer truck driver for 18yrs and closest i've seen to this is shot-crete been used to make pools and they were on it as soon as it's shot out of the sprayer. excellent work.
Yes we stain it with Acrylic colors. This is less costly than real rock in that it it save time and labor.

how do you stain the "stones" ? with paint or...??
psalm1604 1 week ago
yes It is because of the minimal labor and the time it takes to install..
you buy yourself much more time..

@kkhhoona The reason we dont put integral color is because we get different effects with a polymer laden concrete finish on the rock.
We then get a covalent bond with the emulsifying color agent that we apply which react with striations and great color effects.

Looks too fake for me...if your going through all those steps you mind as well use real stone! I like the outside the box thinking though.

workability of the cement can be extended through the us of
Salts of lignosulfate acids - Salts of hydroxycarboxylic acids - Polysaccharides and their derivatives - Hydroxylated polymers

How do you make the granite look in the rocks? You know the black and white spotted ones.
