The voice is OBVIOUSLY NOT Joan Baez. The voice sounds like Fracoise Hardy or Claudine Longet, but, NOT Baez.
Joan did make this song famous on her 1962
lp Joan Baez in Concert, maybe that is where the confusion comes in. The female singer on this clip has a soft, whispery voice with no vibrato, quite unlike Baez's full toned, powerful instrument which has a very distinctive strong vibrato.
Possibly de Andre was crediting Baez for providing the arrangement for "Geordie" on his record and people mistakenly thought Baez was the singer. In 1966 Baez was probably the most successful female singer in the world and a song she introduced to the world audience.
I don't know, because 2 weeks ago I listened an italian song played by her, and when she sing is a perfekt italian, but she doesn't know to converse in italian.

Dubito che Luvi potesse cantare alcunchè nel 1966.

In this play (1966) it's Maureen Rix, his former English teacher. He performed live Geordie with his daughter Luvi in his last tour (1998).
