  • There are only three ways I know of to remove the screws.

Option 1: Cut a straight groove into the screw head and use a flat blade screw driver to remove

Option 2: Super glue a screw to the worn screw (leave it to set for at least 12 hours) and remove that way.

Option 3: Drill the head of the screw off.

Note, I'd personally replace the phillips screws with Torx T6 if you can obtain them

  • I've got 2 N900's (bought one 2nd hand to attempt to install android and never did) was going to swap the displays around as the one I use is damaged, turns out all the screws come out easy apart from the top left on on both phones, one rounded to the point of no return. Also why are N900 screws so hard to obtain.

  • @eggy77 I got myself a good quality ph0 driver this morning, so much better now, got my new LCD screen fitted but my touchscreen doesn't work either. Did have one other issue yesterday, the gap at the bottom of the phone, as it wasn't sat right before I screwed the 2 parts together, I do now have one good phone - and one that needs a new digitilizer.

  • hey man! I got a broken screw. . Do you know how to fix it?

  • @irvy491 I found one website that sells N900 screws, klc(dot)fi , been searching google for ages to find another but no luck, no bought any myself yet but could do with some.

  • @eggy77 thanks for the suggestion.. but my real problem is i cant take it of the broken screws from my phone...

  • @irvy491 I've had to use my dremel to create a "flathead" on a screw that had worn on my phone, it was one on the back of the screen though so it was easy to get to, I have another that has worn though, the one behind the slider - can't see how I can get that out. Sorry I can't help you any further, stupid weak screws.

  • hey man! I got a broken screw. . Do you know how to fix it?

  • Thanks for the guide, install worked great! Beware though, really try to keep dust away from everything when switching out the screens. I caught a few specks in there, cause the inside of my phone was already quite dusty.

  • what size is the fisrt scredriver you used?

  • @eae1793 ph0

  • hi, I have a problem on my n900 touch screen. the picture looks perfect. But, the touch screen doesn't work. Is it a problem with the touch screen? Do I need to purchase LCD screen?

  • @kangabambobby If the picture is ok then the fault is either with the ribbon cable to the digitizer or the digitizer itself.

  • Im interested and I emailed you. Do reply asap. Thanks

  • Still got my N900. Still working perfectly!

  • @theBTman

Unfortunately my n900 died after a couple of months of fixing the screen. I get constant sim card errors so basically no network. Just use it for a media player in my car now as its FM transmitter is still very handy. Cant complain tho as I have now had to upgrade to the marvellous galaxy s2!! :)

  • How do you talk so fast?!

  • @GrumpyGrebo It came out sped up for some reason lol

  • @theBTman You know ironically I commented last Wednesday, Thursday evening I dropped my phone as usual after watching this video and bragging to my mate who has twoa result of a cracked screen... bam. Big diagonal split and a gradual leak! Any tips on where to buy the LCDs? Just the slab, the digitiser is still fine as is the backlight and slider.

  • woah dude how much coffee did you drink??

  • @AppA Actually loads, but the reason for the voice was my video editor sped it up...dunno why!

  • Right, first up I have had nothing out of SIANS at all, so I've ordered a load of LCD's and I'm gonna sell them myself. I will also offer a fitting service. From Beginning of October 2011.

Second, if you are attempting to fit the screen yourself, FFS use the proper screw driver - Its a PH 0 (thats a zero). Dont just get any old shitty pozidrive or phillips or you will round off the head!! FFS!

WERA 006150 is a decent screwdriver. Do not buy a 99p piece of shit off eBay! It will cost you 10x !!

  • Thanks, I used these instructions to change my broken screen. Took about 25-30 mins but once it was all put back together the touch screen wasn't working. So took it all apart and noticed the ribbon cable held in place by that small black lever had come out

All works fine now, 2nd time only took 10 minutes. Easy once you know how

  • @vinsta76 Well done dude...its worth doing and once you have you will know how to fix your device should a button or something else break.

  • Thank you very much, this video made it a breeze to replace the screen on my N900

  • @theBTman hello thank you for this tutorial, i disassembled the device but when i tried to assemble it back again , i cant return the screen with the keyboard in the same place

  • Thank you for a great video, my 900 screen went poof the other day..not sure why...your vid helped me replace it...my slide isnt lining up perfectly now, but she is running again! I probably tweaked something when I attempted to pry the last bit apart without first loosening up the 2 middle screws (under the slider) thank you!!

Those connectors are a bugger eh...had to use "the force" cause you cant see what your doin!.. to get that second one back together..

  • Thanks BTMan! I had to change my LCD screen but like some others here I had a problem getting all the screws out. After much hassle and superglueing, I managed to change my screen through a slot with only 4 of the 6 screws out. Ended up with a new LCD screen in, I've slightly bowed the slidy mechanism but at least its working.

That's how much I love this phone.

  • @theBTman hey man thats not working for me now im stuck with a open n900 with all the acrews out except the top right one in the lcd part help me please

  • i hope this video will help me. next weak i`ll order lcd.

  • I appologize if im mistaken but in your video your only replace the bottom part of the screen, right? Im interested in replacing the front plastic part since it has couple of scratches on it.

Can you help me with that?

    Thanks for the usefull video!

  • Does sians mobile ship to america?

  • yes worldwide

  • So is the replacement screen 100% equal to the original one? In terms of touch responsiveness mostly is what I'm bothered

  • I have exactly the same cracked screen. Thank you so much for this vid!

  • Any chance you'd fix mine for me? I'm hopeless with fixing things!!

  • Good video, useful addition to the service manual. Useful tips: UNLOCK the connector locking mechanism of the NEW LCD before installing. When re-assembling the upper block(LCD Screen) to the main body ensure that the flange on the slide assy is inserted under the QWERTY Keyboard surround, tighten the 4 Phillips size 00 screws.

A Torx T6 is not required as Sians mobiles suggests.

  • I dropped my phone today on concrete floor .. it fell on it's back and not the front where the screen is .. Then the screen stopped working, as in the sensitivity went so if i touched the screen, it didn't work.. The phone still works! But the touching sensitivity is gone.. Shall i replace the screen with a new one, please someone help me?

  • @PSPhelp2008 i think u shoud replace

  • My Nokia N900 screen pushes itself while i press any thing on the screen. its casing/housing is there but the mirror screen pushes, gets inside a little bit. and the slider has been loosen too.

  • I am very sad now, the screws were too tight for my screwdriver. They're now flat and destroyed, will never be able to get that screw out now.

  • hi. i just replaced both my n900 screens as i had cracked them both. thanks for the great info.

however both my screens (bought at sians) have a purpley tinge to them and are far from the crisp screen i was used too. did i do something wrong?

  • Great video man, do sian also do full case replacement, mines been banged around alot so i'd like to restore it somewhat hehe,

    My screens totalled too! :)

    Cheers!

  • You, my friend, are a star! I watched you video before I received my new screen from sians, and I found it amusing to watch your hair pulling frustration with the fiddly bits. Upon trying it myself I completely understood why :) I can truly say without this, I would have ruined my phone. Top video - vids like yours make YouTube worthwhile.

  • @000EGC000 Hi mate, thank you! Doubtful to be honest, but I guess worth taking apart to check. As you can see from the video everything is pretty tight in there, I'd sooner bet on screen shock causing the fail rather than a ribbon popping out, but as I say cant hurt to check.

  • I did the same too, same company. Worked great for me. Thank you for making the video!

  • Thanks for the video! I ordered from Sians as well and just finished the install with the help of your experience.

  • top video, thanks for the upload!!!

  • this would be very helpful to those who have bright spot problems, including me.

    thanks!

  • good hard working genius man well done

  • i want to ask every xpert of you that if we change the display of n900 will it perform same as an orignal one does?i mean have anyone of you found any problem after changing the lcd screen???

  • @nexthacker007 I'm not an expert, but I its very important to me that the device works well, and it does, its perfect :)

  • Dude, tht is pretty cool!! Nicely done. Hows the screen feel like and how responsive is it? Is it just like the original?

  • @lucky88shp Thanks mate. Its perfect and responsive as it was before...plus I'm now using a screen protector so sensitivity is excellent.

  • @iRobb94ii Thats software dude. Did you do a restore from a backup or something? Best best when you send it off is to attach a covering letter to the phone and state that its been off to them twice for repair and twice its come back and within 24 hours reverted back to its faulty state. Ask for a complete replacement of the device, mention trading standards and "not fit for purpose". Gd luck dude, by way if its blacklisted, it will eventually get barred on all networks!

  • My screen is playing up, however the LCD is fine but the touchscreen bit doesn't work properly and i don't have insurance + sending it away for warranty, all they do is flash it which doesn't fix it. Would doing this solve my problem??

  • @iRobb94ii If its still under warranty then they should fix it not just flash it, unless its a software issue caused by something you have installed. Have you sent it off yet? Did it come back working at all?

  • @theBTman Thanks for the quick reply. and i sent it off before when it was blacklisted and there was a gap just above my keyboard that i wanted repaired but all they did was flash it so i'm not sure if they will fix it. Then when they unblacklisted it this started happening. i'll send it off tomorrow and if they don't then i will buy an LCD and let you know if it works or not

  • @iRobb94ii What do you mean Blacklisted? Do you mean locked / unlocked?

  • You make this look possible. Thanks.

  • @tzsm98 It must be if I can do it!
