You are SO right about that! Years ago, we (my family and I) were also "owned" by a Basset named Sam. People assumed he was stupid when he was anything but that. He was just smart enough to do what he wanted to do and WHEN he wanted to do it.
@mhcl879 I agree. My first basset, Bogey, is almost 8 months now and is the funniest dog I've ever been around. At his recent vet visit, we weighed him at an astonishing 52 lbs ALREADY and in great shape. He's built like a hoss but he wouldn't hurt a fly.
