There's is definitely no "I" involved, and "Like you" makes no sense. This is the scrutiny of many listenings over many years.

Also, usually, servants don't say "hehe, I like you" to their superiors.

No, I actually think the reason you can't figure it out is because you've never heard someone talk with the old guy accent the librarian uses. If you become used to it, it's really obvious he's saying "Thank you"
