It's sad that music like this doesn't really get made anymore... It's gone the way of Vinyl, but you know what? Vinyl is coming back, and I have a feeling good music will too. Everyone is in a radio rock/radio pop phase, listening to music that panders to them as opposed to music that has artistic beauty like this. Perfect example, when I type "Soul" into the search the first suggestion is "Soulja Boy"... Very sad.
"Two Guns-Balls Out" was another talented band in the 70's that was signed to Capricorn Records. Check out their music on youtube it is a sound of its own and considered a southern rock n roll classic!!!
I'm trying to learn this song for an open mic thing, I started playing guitar maybe 4 years ago, and so far I've been afraid to play live. But I know a good few songs and I want my first song I do live to be something special so it's between this and something by Jimi Hendrix. Zep is too obvious, as awesome as they are, but this song I think will be the one. It's not too obvious, it's definitely something special, and it's just plain beautiful.
awesome song this is a gov't mule song and not Allman Brothers Band because Warren Haynes is in the allman brother band its doesn't make it there song thanks anyway
We are one of the few young people who likes this music. We have uploaded a recorded cover of another song by allman brothers on our channel, please go listen to it and don't let music like this die :(.
if some people don't like this, I really can't understand their preconceived notion of just exactly what or why they would even turn on the radio unless they just want to hear the weather forecast. This being stated, ---- they can --- they can --- I guess -- just listen to the weatherman -- or weatherwoman -- [to be politically correct]. If they're lucky maybe their tomorrow will be filled with "SOULSHINE".
Truly...16 people don't know what they are doing by disliking this song. Pure Beauty...my Daddy plays this song every time he plays a gig, and it always brings a collective tear to what ever audience he plays for.
Growing up, my dad would be so down and out, and we knew it.. he'd put this song on, he's still alive, but I feel for you Jenfowler73. I love this song so much.
This song makes me feel so mellow. Like I could sit out by the pool and just chill. It would probably be a good slow dance too...or at least okay. I would dance to it.
@Django5198 there is nothing wrong with people liking soulja boy he makes music too if you dont like someones music then dont bash it man im not a fan of him ether but i dont hate on him
@acdcandnerf You know what man you're absolutely right. I was having a bad day yesterday and I do stupid things like that when I'm having a bad day. I don't hate him I just dislike his music. I was being snobbish. i'm soryy :)
since warren wrote this song, i think maybe he has the right to play it, i agree dickie has great soul, but warren is the hardest working man in the music business, you rock warren, you have soul in your voice, and your guitar playing.
This is a great song. If you like this, check out the Bastard Suns cover of it. As much as I love the Allman Bros., I prefer that version. Either way, it's an amazing song. :)
The most soulful version I've ever heard of this tune was done by the band Root Doctor....imho. ...slower gospel vibe of Root Doctor, the vocals, and the sparse and intense guitar solo make it river deep... anyhow, check it out on itunes... nice reading of a great song for sure...
Saw these dudes at a bar in Nyack NY ~24 yrs ago. They all were drunk & Dickey slurred his guitar like a drunk man talks-didn't know it could be done. Great band but not when stoned out. Would love to have been at Watkins Glen in '73 & seen them w/The Band, The Dead, & 600,000 souls!
In Memory of my nephew, Gregory Allen Baker/aka Jesus Christopher 09/09/71 - 08/28/11...So glad I got to see the Allman Brothers with you and hear this song! Shine on!
@lisao1965 Thank you! We didn't have a cd to play this song at Greg's funeral, but his mother read some of the lyrics...It was one of his favorite songs! He was also buried with his favorite Allman Brother's t-shirt...so worn you could hardly read it he wore it so much!
@th3mw3llboyz Daune died in 71 or 72 (forget which year)...This is Warren Haynes and Dickey Betts...in fact i believe that this was a Gov't Mule song, which Warren wrote...

I didn't know this song til i heard it tonight on tv. I happened upon it just flippin channels on tv - I saw a guy from NH play acoustic and sing it on WSBK's Community Audition show and I thought what a great song lyrically-- and now I heard the original
my dad was a platoon seargent first class E-7 in the Korean war when he was only 20 years old. God rest him, but he brought his sons up right. Glad to be my fathers son.
This song has such an application to everyones life. I am currently about to go college, a time in my life that is filled with doubt and concern, but this song really hits home for me and i can relate 100%
It's still the Allman brothers band clix411. Just because Greggs brother Duane died in 1971 does not mean that he is not there in spirit with the band. Just the way I see it. thanks for posting this great tune.
Isnt this really just Greg Allmans band, not exactly the Allman Bros Band? As harsh as it is his brother was dead, so there isnt a pair anymore ya know which would affect the title with the word Bros, not offending anyone, an old wise fart mentioned that the other day and im a little puzzled, and maybe i misunderstood
@clix411 I grew up in Macon, Georgia, where this band called "home" and recorded many of their songs at Capricorn Studios. These guys were brothers in flesh as well as spirit....when Duane and Barry died, it did not lessen their "brotherly" love for each other. They are, today as well 40 years ago, brothers still. The Allman Brothers Band was the original name of the group....just because Duane died, that was no excuse to change their name.
10 people that have never felt soulshine. they have never felt that hurt. i heard this about a week after my dad past, for the first time, it made me feel somwhat better knowing that im not the only one thats suffering. but at the same time i was sobbing like a baby.
I heard this song on the radio today for the first time, some one was requesting it, I LOVE the allman bros, and this song is beautiful, love the name, Soulshine, most definitely, I am going to send it to my son who just had his heart broke, I keep telling him to keep his head up, but this song says it so much better than I can. A student came in before school today and told me his father had been diagnosed with terminal cancer - less than a year to live. Third hour in study hall, almost no one else in the room, I played this on my computer. We're listening and read your comment. He said : Gosh, my dad was born in 1962. It was a moment. May your father rest in peace.
If there was a better song to bring you back from the deepest darkest places in your mind I dam sure never heard it!!! And for the 8 losers that clicked dislike you had to be Yankee's that don't know anything bout what he's singin!!!
My brother and chose this song and others including Simple Man for our Daddys funeral almost 3 weeks ago! The songs we chose was Daddy all the way! Just like they were written for him! He was only 49, the first man I ever loved and now he's gone, but I'll always be Daddys little girl! 1961-2011
@SRLOVE2003 I'm sure he was a great guy if he liked The Allman Brothers. I was born in 1964 and have always loved them. Sorry to hear about your Daddy. I lost mine too in 1991. He also loved the Allman Brothers.
@cjw10987 never heard of false ages on profiles??? mine says like 55 or somethin idiot she wrote a sentimental ocmment and u had to be a dick about it
@SRLOVE2003 yes you will always be daddys little girl....from one daddys girl to another. i lost mine 3.5 years ago and he is with me every day. and so is yours.
ok seriously this is my favorite song ever!!!!im so glad my friend showed me this band....and first time i heard this song...i cried!!!its so deep and AMWAZING!!!!
im not even going to think of anything creative, because they don't deserve it. 17 PEOPLE ARE MUSICALLY IGNORANT IDIOTS!!!!

My brother and chose this song and others including Simple Man for our Daddys funeral almost 3 weeks ago! The songs we chose was Daddy all the way! Just like they were written for him! He was only 49, the first man I ever loved and now he's gone, but I'll always be Daddys little girl! 1961-2011

@SRLOVE2003 Very touching. He raised good, thoughtful kids! May he rest in peace. God Bless you. Keep your chin up, and the classics turned up :)

@SRLOVE2003 I'm sure he was a great guy if he liked The Allman Brothers. I was born in 1964 and have always loved them. Sorry to hear about your Daddy. I lost mine too in 1991. He also loved the Allman Brothers.
