  • Love it! Beautifly done, and who doesn't like celtics (Uh, the Scottish love it!)? Learning this song, great example!

  • Dang thing cut me off. As I was saying you sound awesome and I am looking forward to the day when we can jam together again brother. Grace and peace. Pete

  • Hey Wayne! Pete here. Awesome job as usual. Who cares how much bow you use?? The reason you play in the upper third of the bow is because the mechanics of the arm require it when playing fast in a slur two - detach two phrase at speed with string crossings. It is possible to play at tempo in the middle of the bow or to use more bow but you have more, higher, and faster arm and shoulder motion. It takes a lot of conditioning and practice to do that. Plus you will blow up your rotator cuff. Sound

  • brilliant tune, brilliantly played :D

  • Wonderful. Clean. Excellent all round. I use your videos to learn these tunes by ear. Just the right amount of ornamentation.

  • its the underlying tapping of rhythm i can hear consistently that gives this tune life like sort of ooom duh ooom duh ooom duh duh. hard to express in words. being self taught i also have some weird styles but i never let anyone put me down when they say im doing it wrong, i just ask them to play the tune i just played in the exact same phrasing holding everything the way THEY think is right.

i have managed to work on my bow strokes and cut down side travel but anything else is moot for me

  • I just started practicing with a violin of my own and I wanted to learn this song.

Let me tell you sir, bravo. I can barely get the first three notes and you make it look like magic. Im really impressed.

  • very light and quick. Nice playing

  • The timbre of the notes is different depending on where on the bow and where on the string you play. Rather than a preference for one area or another, think of it as a palette of slightly different tones to choose from. Classical guitarists do similar things with the fingers and with the pluck point. Close to the bridge you get more of the high harmonics for a more tinny sound. Close to the center of the string you get less, for a more liquid sound.

  • great rhythm, that's how to play the fiddle

  • buenisimo!!!!me encanto xD!

  • You play great-the way it should be played with rhythm and life- thanks for posting-now I'm going to try and learn it from you by watching the vid !

  • man, yuo are probably one of the best fiddlers on youtube

  • Thank you. A favorite tune of mind.

  • This sounds great. A bit of a lesson for us learning. You seem to play pretty close to the tip of the bow - well into the upper half of the bow - does that help ? What does that do ? It does sound great - very melodic - great string crossings - good rhythm. Thanks for posting !

  • I have no idea about why I only use that little bow. Maybe a hazard of being self taught. I tend to catch a bit of flack for that. Thanks for your post!

  • @flyinfiddler I had my toes tapping, you play very well!

  • Playing closer to the tip makes string crossings a little cleaner since there's less in the way and you can generally play faster. The only downside is that using so little of the bow certainly limits the sound.

This is definitely good playing, though, and a fun listen. It's just a matter of the musician's personal preference. :)

  • Well .. not sure I'm onboard with all of your thinking here. This is certainly an interesting style, and the tunes sound ok, but using the bow this way does limit some of what can be done with bow strokes. His left hand is great and the intonation super. Bowing toward the center of the bow might cut down on overall work - prevent running out of bow - prevent picking up the bow. I tend to play too close to the frog - with running out-of-bow results. Preference ? Maybe habit is a better label.

  • You're certainly right but maybe I didn't say that quite as I meant...By "preference" I didn't necessarily mean what is the best method, but more what the musician is comfortable with. Playing closer to the middle would be better, but it depends on whether or not the musician is willing to deal with the discomfort required to change the habit, hehe.

  • @jkvideo42 keeps the bow from bouncing

  • i played it too

  • Hola amigo!! Lo felicitamos con mi hermano desde Argentina!!

Toca muy fluido, con mucha naturalidad y transmite mucho!! No deje de tocar!
