Brings back memories of April and early May 1977 for me. Incredible that Southern Nights by Glen Campbell,Heard It In A Love Song by Marshall Tucker Band,Margarittaville by Jimmy Buffet,Right Time Of The Night by Jennifer Warnes,Lucille by Kenny Rogers,Dancin Man by Q,and Lido Shuffle by Boz Scaggs I heard on the radio stations also being charted at the same time in the Spring of 1977.
I have a Tom Jones greatest hits CD called The Complete Tom Jones, but that is a very bad title because this song does not appear in it. And I know this was a hit as I remember often hearing it on radio around early 1977.
As a young child my parents loved eating at the fish camp. It was nestled on a hill close to a running river; my older siblings and I often threw rocks into the clear stream until it was time to eat. My mother loved Tom Jones (She saw him in concert once, bought some panties (a smaller size, of course) and threw them to Mr. Jones). At the fish camp, my mother trusted one of us with coins and to press the correct button on the jukebox. Decades later, I can hear the coins slide into the jukebox...
I was 13 then, and my mom and I loved this song. How many of us wished someone would stay after a relationship has fallen apart? This song is so true.
I would hear ths song at least once a night in the middle of the 70's when i was but a teenager on my first job at a grocery store, loved it then and now!!
I was surprised when I heard that Tom Jones had a #1 hit on the country charts. I didn't think he was country, but after hearing this one, I think it makes for a really good country song. I wish I could find it on iTunes!
to 70selvisfan, I do a cover of this song on youtube under 9448 or The Tom Williams Band. This is one of my favorites,I can give you the chords if you like .Thanks,Tom.
Great Slim Whitman song, and this version is fantastic. It's says a lot for Tom Jones that he recognised the quality in this C/W song and did it justice.
"Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow" is a 1976 single by Tom Jones. The song was Jones's first and highest-charting country music hit. Spending ten weeks within the Top 40 of the Billboard Hot Country Singles (now Hot Country Songs) chart, "Say You'll Stay Until Tomorrow" went to number one for one week on February 26, 1977
for some reason this song popped into my head. First heard it when i was a kid in the 70s. Haven't heard it since, till now.

Hit #1 country, #3 AC, #15 pop in Billboard. How'd it do in Wales, Tom's birthplace? God bless!

In late 1976 and early1977, when this song first came out, it got A LOT of airplay on WMC- AM, one of the leading country stations in Memphis.
