  • oh yo termis i have been wondernig about this question and since your a very experienced and successful bench presser can i ask u sumthing?? do u squeeze your glutse during the whole bench press movement?? and is it really important to keep a tight back ( squeeze shoulder blades together )?? thx

  • @SmexyPC , yes, keep your back and glutes tight throughout the lift; keeps your body stiff and you don't have to use so much energy on keeping the weight balanced.

    squeezing your blades together keeps your upper body riggid and in a firm "package". Also it enables you to use more the chest muscles rather than shoulders as your arms can move lower and more towards the belly.

    Finally arching the back and keeping blades together will reduce the range of motion and the bar travels less.
