@illicit0 no the issue remains. however, i did some calibrating in the service menu that minimized the issue. but it still remains. i dont worry about it too much anymore. its barely noticeable at most times.
Panasonic didn't help out much. Their customer service is terrible.
I have the 54" model of the S1, and I also have banding issues.
I notice it the most when watching movie trailers. Those white letters with the green background. Well, the white letters emit this shadow horizontally which is very annoying.
I saw something similar to this on my TV as well (same model). It was very noticeable when I played COD5, at the weapon selection screen. Would this be a legit defect though? Or is it something that the retailers would just ignore? I bought mind from Futureshop with a huge warranty.
Where was the problem at?

This is a legit defect. Another user on avsforum is having the same exact issue. Panasonic better resolve this asap.
