  • What the hell is the guy doing in the tuba at 1:20?????

  • είναι τόσο άρρωστη αυτή η ταινία..

  • I think the giant woman introduced as the third turn is intended to represent Teresa Mary "Tessie" O'Shea (13 March 1913 – 21 April 1995) who billed herself as "Two Ton Tessie From Tennessee". M. Chomet would certainly have known of her, but probably never saw her perform on stage.

  • keşke biz de böyle yapabilsek

  • Django Reinhardt (1:24) \o/

  • 2:57 (paused) is a good freeze frame picture. lol!!!!

  • @TrillianS8 Don't click it immediately, wait a millisecond. His shoes should have his legs. :)

  • I don't know why, but the animation style in this scene was kind of a culture shock for me... and yet... SO CATCHY.

  • Josephine Baker ♥

  • such an amazing film :')

  • habibdebamogo

  • Forgot to add the Triplets remind me of the Andrews Sisters who were amazing just as these three would have been if they were real

  • I love that the title when they are giving the credits its like those old late 20's early 30's betty boop cartoons and I love the animation in this film, and it's very unpredictable and amazing

  • @MrJoeyWheeler This film is beautiful, poignant, and a glorious example of how art created from a person's hand can have a huge impact. There's little to no dialogue in the entire movie save for the songs. The movie is indeed fantastical and strange but to dismiss it as something to mock only showcases your Cro-Magnon intellect.

  • Anyone else notice that only the conductor (whose name escapes me) and Django have five fingers? (Well technically, he only has 3 on one hand, but you know what I mean. And he only has four toes!)

  • It's amazing to me how many people didn't know who Josephine Baker was ..or get her whole act and how the men did act like wild animals (in this case monkeys) when she would come out

  • somebody thought this was racist or something? Jesus! Get a grip

  • @giles422 Well to be fair, until I learned about Josephine Baker, I really did think it was racism rather than historical accuracy.

  • @Android2137 okay, Android- no sweat. Baker was really something, tho- and the caricature of her in this film was so nice to see- anything but racist.

  • FYI hectorfprez, the bandleader in this cartoon is not Harpo Marx but the french singer, composer, Charles Trenet . And yes... that's Einsteins field equation on the bottom of the pseudo Max Fleischer cartoon introduction!~

  • What was the big baby at the end though?

  • @Soundfrequency Food for your nightmaressss

  • I love how odd the cartoon is :) J'adore Belleville'de bir randevu et Les Triplettes de Belleville :)

  • I love this movie. I thought it was fantastic!

  • In Russia& Ukraine - Love this film so mutch...

  • dont get the naked black chick

  • @ luigi24908800

    its josephine Baker

  • It also had Fred Astaire dancing (with the rebellious shoes) and Django Reinhard playing the guitar.

  • we're watching this film in french....

but whats with the topless woman for cryin out loud?

  • That's Josephine Baker, a dancer who was famous in France.

  • Josephine Baker, an American who settled in France. She was famous for a few things, one of which was her Dance Sauvage, depicted here. She also became famous for her singing and then as a member of the French Resistance. A remarkable woman...

  • aguante jango ! groso xD

  • love this film so much. <3

  • Josephine Baker's part is simply great!!!

    Love this film.

  • this is quite possibly the best part of the movie, it could be just me, i love the old school super steriotypical 20's style of animation

  • i like the one in the middle

  • wtf? the backround voice is Russian:

  • Dass ist so kommisch. Ich habe diese kleine Film nicht verstanden.

  • This was one of the best movies I've ever seen. I loved the fact that almost no voices were used and the characters were so expressive.

  • the song is in french but the dub at the beginning?

  • The dub is Italian from the sound of it.

  • dub is in russian by the way

  • Comment removed

  • this sort of reminds me of flapjack

  • I was thinking the same thing.

  • wat language this is in

  • french

  • does anybody know where i can get the movie-version of the song with those voices? PLEASE

  • I purchased the DVD movie on eBay about 3 years ago. What you see here is what you get on the movie...it is the beginning and the main characters are watching the triplets on their little black and white TV...once the giant fat woman comes onto the stage the movie reverts back to the main characters. BTW, it is a GREAT movie!

  • i watchd it in french an its cool <3

    xox

  • Best movie ever

  • J'adore...Bravo les triplettes hihihihi!

  • There apear Harpo Marx, django Reinhard, J. Baker, Fred Astaire... And the field equation of Einstein !!!!

  • Apparently it's the young Jacques Tati, not Harpo Marx.

  • Of course, my friend, you are wright

  • i love this film !

  • La mejor pelicula del mundo, no tiene desperdicio!!!

  • I saw this in EA.

  • In a french class..., there is like 10 words in all the movie lol, not very great to pratice french lol

  • same

  • whoa.. you guys are getting into a tizzy.. they were giving props to Josephine Baker.. an american black woman who was LOVED in France but hated here in America b/c of her colour... they were showing how all the men went crazy for her.. oh.. and just so you know.. one of her more famous acts featured her dancing in a skirt made out of bananas.. try looking her up... she was awesome..

  • yep true i got educated on her by my grandma

  • @redhotmamacassandra

I actually had no idea of that. I just assumed it was one of those "Play to the audience"-sort of things they did back then (you know, to give the male audience something to look at).

The more you know, I guess ;)

  • @redhotmamacassandra thanks for that cuz i always wondered what the black woman was in there for Loolz, bt now i see, thanks

  • @redhotmamacassandra WELL SAID :D

  • What I do not understand is that if this is supposed be an nice depiction of her... why create the imagery and traits used here? Why does she walk on all fours like an animal (men cheer)? Why is she cross eyed and given an elongated head, with a large buttocks area? They made her into a "primal and wild" woman who turns men into animals and then is stripped of her skirt against her will... Is she was so loved why show future generations THIS depiction of her...

  • Comment removed

  • @kelsterg3 it really IS how she danced, with the crossed eyes and everything. The depiction here is true to how she was characterized in the art of the day in France (where she was a national treasure and decorated war hero). The image is disturbing to us now for many reasons, but let's not blame Sylvain Chomet--he didn't write history. Her image has been a subject of controversy for decades, let's use this as an opportunity to learn something about and from historical conceptions of race.

  • @kelsterg3 because this is a caricature , the movie is not intend to be realistic it's a big caricature , they basically make fun of everything even people they do like . We have that saying in France " qui aime bien chatie bien" i found an english translation , not sure it has the same meaning "spare the rod and spoil the child" .French ppl try a lot to keep the " we can laugh of everything " speech freedom, but i think it's getting hard cause people are just so easily offended nowadays.

  • @Asahiart Tis' true. I'm an American (Mexican-American.) & this movie is one of my favorites. People are just becoming too uptight, especially here in the U.S. Loosen up everyone, learn to laugh at yourself & in turn laugh at everyone else.

  • Comment removed

  • @kelsterg3 no need to get fussy of this. look up josephine baker, first black superstar.

it shows her doing the EXACT same thing

  • J'adore <3 ! Il est trop tripant ce dessin animé , le début j'adore la chanson est pas mal et c'est très bien caricaturé ! :)

  • Ha ha silly fred estere. that will teach him to dance so well. Way-to-go shoes!!

  • It's supposed to be Django Reinhardt at 1 min 25 secs right?

  • Yes, I suppose so

  • seyretmistim ben bu filmi cizimler super

  • ohhmygodd!! we just watched this movie in french class and it was amazing!!

  • The woman with the breasts is supposed to be the beautiful Josephine Baker who was a very well known topless dancer in Paris during the 20s and 30s. She was world renowned for her banana skirt.

  • this isn't a black and white film when it gets going, actually it is just that bit which is supposed to be being watched on a television. So no this wasn't the first black and white cartoon with breasts as it isn't a black and white cartoon!

  • we watched this film in french it is sooooo weird

  • Very odd! And what's up with the tribal woman? That's the first black and white cartoon to show breasts. I thought that part was really wrong. Sorta made me uncomfortable.

  • Thats Josephine Baker dipshit.....

  • calm down guy, not everyone knows who that is. he just asked a question.

  • im a girl.... and im not upset that he didnt know who it was, just that he called her a tribal woman. thats so descriminating and racist.

  • oh my mistake ma'am, well it's not really that racist she looks a little tribal. i mean she has on a skirt made of bannas.

  • What would you say?

  • what do you mean what would I say? you mean what would i call her? Well, I'd say native... as aposed to tribal. Tribal just sounds uncuth and harsh to me. and not only that but why is she considered "Tribal" just because of what she is wearing? Johnny Depp dressed as a pirate for the Pirates of the Carribean movies.. doesnt mean he is a pirate.

  • well, 'tribal' was kind of her act. of course josephine wasn't some 'native', she was a famous performer in france. she wore regular clothes and spoke english and french fluently. he probably called her tribal cause of the monkeys surrounding her soon after her appearance, too. being someone who knows nothing of the character, this first impression would seem tribal. specially with the caricature they drew her in.

  • again.... im a girl not a bro....

  • whatever brosef stalin

  • have you seen the movie ? "Well people", those from the good society, turn into monkeys as soon they see a Girl naked... dou you really think "black people" were allowed to this kind of partys ? LES TRIPLETTES DE BELLEVILLE, MUST BE SEEN !

  • j adore

  • the last part with the giant woman is creepy, what was that? XD

  • Fred Astaire part was extremely weird and almost creepy.

    Love this movie.

  • C'est que ça balance pas mal j'ai les triplettes. Allé les filles, allons, du swing

  • j'adore le film :)

mais c'etait trop de stupide :D

  • Un film trés superbe! J'adore l'intro, la musique et l'animation ^^

  • This is one of the very best opening sequences that I have ever seen.

  • oldum olası bu filme aşığım ckendimde medaş ın bisiklet takımında bisiklet yarışcısıyım
