  • love the coin trick, but he twists his hand, then covers the coin and pulls...any pro knows watch him the five seconds after the applause...coin never left his right hand, he puts it back into his pocket...I believe though still ;)

  • Awesome!!

  • there were 3 security guards in the movie and 3 dislikes on this video

  • awesome documentary! cannot recommend it enough!

  • just watched man on wire yesterday and its really amazing and inspiring

  • I wonder if the 'Werner' is Herzog

  • To @Pariah77. I assume that 77 is your IQ or else, little one, when you were born. So tell us all, what astounding thing have YOU done, which so many admire? Actually, it doesn't matter, because your arrogant, juvenile attitude rules you out.

And as for sucking dicks and hugging balls, don't worry, maybe one day someone will find yours for you. Oh yeah, learn French, and watch the film. Until then, we don't care what you think,x

  • Genius

  • Petit is a Hero

  • *does magic trick*

*sticks coin in pocket immediately after trick*

it was in his right hand the whole time. SON OF A BITCH!

  • @jojosanz

How the hell did he maintain his balance with these giant balls ?!

    Just kidding ....

I can't wait to see this film !

  • He so inspiring

  • phillipe petit should be everyones idol

  • That 1 dislike came from the security guard

  • @Pariah77 And me. What's with all the nuthuggers? Can you metaphorically suck his dick any more? I mean I have people I respect, but I don't idolize them. And the funny thing is all these people saying he's so "inspirational" don't do anything. What's he inspired you to do? Use people and fuck them over? Be an attention whore? Le petit man indeed. I honestly can't understand how this movie is in the top 10. It's just a long History channel episode but with more over dramatization. I laughed.

  • @variously2 I've seen it all now. Hating on Man on Wire? What is wrong with you? (that's rhetorical, don't start ranting again)

  • @Pariah77 The other guard has joined him.

  • This man has a heart of gold and nerves of steel.

  • @skateposeur12 Nerves of steel? Yes. Heart of gold? Meh. Don't get me wrong. The movie was awesome and he is inspiring blah blah blah. However, towards the very end, he was seeming to me more and more like an anti-hero. Which made the story that much more interesting.

  • That is the coolest Oscar acceptance speech ever.

  • Yay Philipe! [: He's the coolest.

  • Phillipe Petit is a badass.

  • Now THAT'S a man I would have no trouble losing to...a performer who keeps entertaining even after he's won the award.

  • LOL AT 1:03, PHILIPPE PETIT SHOWS HIS MIDDLE FINGER !!!

ANYWAYS, HE'S A GREAT GUY, VERY ENTERTAINING AND A TRUE ARTIST

  • Ladies and gentlemen - this is how one accepts an Oscar

  • French people are weird.

  • Some men just know what life is all about. Unfortunately, I don't.

  • what a boss

  • i just watched this movie and i am having trouble believing what i just saw. I didnt know it took so much planning and such determination to walk a tight rope. HE made it look so easy. And he was kickass goodlooking when he was young.

  • he is like a real life french gandalf

  • What a great guy!!

  • True Artist in every sense. Artiste Verte.

  • we,we,we got to love that crazy french man

  • what a wonderful guy!

  • What a hero!! My biggest inspiration ever!

  • P.P. Officially one of the coolest men EVER

  • This guy is beyond insanity. Man, he is so cool. I mean who would do that unless the honestly was off their rocker?! How he pretty much told gravity to shove it is beyond me. Wow just wow.

  • You have to have some serious balls to do what he did.........or just be plain out crazy!

  • Hey Bill Maher, that movie KICKED YOUR SORRY ASS MOVIE'S ASS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • world trade centre was an inside Job

george bush is the biggest terrorist alive

  • @zaydzapper How dare you hijack this great man's video with your conspiracy theory bullshit. The movie isn't about the towers; it's about an extraordinary performer who brightened up the world with his display of conquering the impossible. You have no business pushing your pitiful agenda on an unrelated video like this. Unlike you, Phillipe actually did something with his life. Go fuck yourself.

  • @P0mt3 "How dare you hijack this great man's video with your conspiracy theory bullshit."

Funny that, no comments here are read by anybody until AFTER they've watched the film.

Tell me - how come Philippe and his friends were able to get into the tower SCORES of times, with fake ID, get onto the roof, with all that gear, etc. if security was adequate?

No black man could EVER do what Philippe Petit did...

  • Who gives a fuck? This video isn't about 9/11. And no shit the comments are read by people who have watched the film. This video is about the film itself.

The towers were in the process of being built, so the center wasn't fully functional yet. - Less security.

America was a lot less paranoid about terrorism around that time as well. - Less suspicious of I.D.

Black men have always been pre-judged in a negative light. What does that have to do with it?

    Spout your nonsense elsewhere.

  • God forbid, and I mean God forbid, but wouldn't it be ironic if Philpee died one day by slipping on the side walk and cracking his head. Or you found out that he sleeps with the lights on because he's scared of the dark. Something really ironic that's the polar opposite of what he did. Great film. God Bless him.

  • Why am I not surprised that he and Werner Herzog are friends?

  • incredible man .... maybe it's an angel !

  • What a great speech! lol.

  • Brilliant. What an inspiration.

  • ahah this guy is the best

  • for the first time ever, the academy was honored by "awarding" an "actor".

he put his life on the line, not for awards, but because he loved those towers. what a man ! im inspired to live life honestly, with simplicity and determination ! wow !

  • Man on Wire-a truly beautiful documentary. If u get a chance see it.

  • I love you, Philippe ! Bravo !

  • greatest oscar acceptance of all time

  • he is the man

  • A hero of mine too, after watching that film. I was just a little bit too young to appreciate it when he did it. I do remember it, though.

  • The coin trick was brilliant, you don't see that done at the Oscars very often.

  • É um artista!

  • Nice sleight of hand :).

  • It's the very simple trick. The coin remained in the right hand when he "took" it to the left.

  • @Akim1787 thanks for enlightening us

  • Are you seriously?! Of course not, this is the Internet.

  • brilliant & v. funny person

    mercy, philippe!!

  • great human ^_^

  • i dont give a shite where he was born, hes a human being what he did was beyond words

  • I just watched the film twice - back to back ! Astonishing aint the word !

  • what a man

  • I saw the film yestarday, i couldnt belived.

i was born in the 70s and didnt know about this man and his history.

what a great, great, great artist.

    salute from brazil, Petit!

  • likewise same as you 70s and didnt know,

true comradeship and a beautiful film

    bravo phillipe petit

  • Where did you see the film?? I want to see it too, but i cant find it anywhere. Help me!!!

  • buy it

  • Netflix is your friend

  • It's on watch instantly on netflix

  • C'est magnifique!

  • I'm not very patriotic but every time I watch this video I feel stupidly proud to be french ! Thanks Phillipe for having dreams bigger than Life !

  • Comment removed

  • You know what... I think he deserved that Oscar.

  • Refreshingly unpretentious and free, and every bit the master performer now as when he walked the Towers all those years ago.

    Bravo!

  • Yes I have his spirit also, the french savoir vivre, and just being himself.

  • he is the GREATEST SPIRIT

  • Just watched this and I now realize why that personality did what he did when that film won the Oscar. What a beautiful man and beautiful film.

  • @Jess101115 why does everyone love him so much? he was a single minded, selfish, egomaniacal backstabber who lives on through his past accomplishments like an old man reminisces about his high school sports days. no only did this man use his friends to get what he wanted, he also cheated on his loyal girlfriend and discarded his friends like nobodies once he accomplished his "feat". Alain Robert is much more accomplished daredevil. And the movie was boring, could have been told in 30 minutes.

  • @variously2 you only sought out the negative's when you watched this film. it was his dream and THEY CHOSE to go along for the ride.I loved this film. Not just because it was exhilirating, poignant and beautifully done, but also because i was there on august 7th,1974 when he accomplished this spectacular feat. and also, being a native new yorker, brought back a flood of wonderful and heartfelt memories for me.

  • PLUS! ONE LOOK AT HIM shows that he's not 100% French. He was raised in France, but he looks like Prince Harry. He's a ginger! He obviously has Celtic blood, so he's a dream-chasing mutt like the rest of us.

  • i'm sorry but that's the most stupid thing i've ever heard. so being ginger immeadiatley makes u 99% or less french? =/

  • That's not what I said.

  • well it kindof is

it dosn't matter if hes french or not he crossed the twin towers on a wire

  • No, I was responding to people who hated him merely because he is French. It probably showed up on the wrong reply. No matter. I've taken quite a beating about it already.

  • Tadah! Exactly the point. Who cares about nationality, this man is an example of how to celebrate life. He's my hero too.

  • Damn, you are talking out of your ass!

    LOL!

based on what you've said every black person is African, then!? Every asian is Chinese ?!

    shut the fuck up!

  • I was commenting on everyone who was French-bashing. I'm of British descent, by way of Normandy. You yourself can shut the fuck up. I was actually trying to make a mockery of the French bashing argument. It doesn't really MAKE a difference ... we're all the same... but if they MUST make a comparison, he looks very Celtic to me. And I'm also Scots-Irish and Scandivanian and we all fucking mixed together. WHO CARES?

  • Lol...why didn't he join the U.S. Army....lol. Basic knowledge FAIL!!!!!! you idiot

  • Leave it to some idiot to bring up 9-11 which has NOTHING to do with this docudrama Man on Wire. Stop making Americans sound as stupid as everyone thinks we are.

  • Because he was 24 years old in 1974, you douchebag. Jesus Christ, try changing your damned diaper and realize that life existed BEFORE 1988.

  • the really stupid ones are those who go to war thinking they're supporting their country, which is not true, they're supporting the bildenberg group ideas!

    study a little more!

    that's why americans are stupid!

  • My God! You really know how to make yourself look stupid in public! (but hiding behind a computer - it's safer!)

  • Totally AMAZING film!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pure faggotry!

  • You are pure sadness

  • Firmez la bouche, plein du soupe!

  • @Sultan0960 suck a dick.

  • yes!!! amazing film! i am really glad this film won! loved it!!!

  • Man on Wire was amazing. If you haven't seen it, do so.

  • That was nice he gave a nod to Werner Herzog, all gentlemen!

  • "Yes!"

  • Haha that was awesome! The balancing act could have gone terribly wrong though!

  • Awesome indeed! I don't know about the balancing going terribly wrong, considering what he did in the documentary...Cheers

  • Best Oscar win of this year! So glad this film won. He is such an inspiration

  • YES YES YES !!!

  • man he's smooth

  • far and wide the most entertaining moment of the Oscars

  • crazy amazing! creative and energetic and fun and alive. a perma-trip!!

    SOMEONE HELP ME!

  • watch the video again, he puts his right hand in his pocket after the trick but before the statue balancing act...the coin never left his right hand...

  • You're a quick one. You managed to explain the simplest magic trick in the book. I hope you were being sarcastic, or something.

  • there was someone asking "to explain the simplest magic trick in the book"...

  • Comment removed

  • Phillipe Petit is the man.

  • Thank you for posting this!

I actually got to see it on Sunday, but I completely forgot to tape it! So thanks!

What an amazing person Philippe Petit is! I hope more people will watch Man On Wire after seeing him at the Oscars and after seeing that the film won an award. :-)

  • This documentary changed my life; and the use of Erik Satie's music at the climax of the movie was all-absorbing and quite emotional for me. Long live Petit.

  • hello,my friend :] i just watched the movie, and was moved as well. i see u know a little bout the music in it. But i have a question for u. :]

Do u know what is the name of the song that is not in the movie, But on the Official Trailer for "Man On Wire"?? It is the last song on it [about halfway through the trailer]..and its Amazing! PLEASE help me here :] thanx!

  • best reviewed movie on rottentomatoes!

  • So pleased to hear 'Man On Wire' won this award. Far from being a dry documentary, this was totally absorbing, not simply just because of his death-defying acheivements but to hear him and his accomplices in interview discussing the pursuit of his dreams was both inspiring and uplifting.

Thank you for posting the clip!

  • From the moment I heard of this man & the fabulous thing that he did, my heart has ever been full of the joy of it, his faith mself. I admire his brave friends who might have been helping him to suicide that day, but who loved & trusted him so, they let his vision fill their souls. My favorite movie charachter

  • This was my favorite moment. Love him! His achievements are breathtaking...and he's such a showman!

  • BRAVO! BRAVO! BRAVO!

  • Thanks for putting this up, I was looking forward to this for like months. And wow, those guys are all so natural on stage.

  • your welcome, there is another on my petit

    vid on my vlog

  • My favorite speech of the night! That's the kind of people we should have in Hollywood.

  • I'll bet that is the first time an Oscar statuette has been balanced on a chin in public! A juggler, wire walker, magician, unicyclist wins an Academy Award.

  • and you know this guy is deep...

    not materialistic at all

  • I watched Man on Wire on Friday night, great piece of work.

  • Highlight of the night.........thats what we need more of ..........MAGIC
