This was the first music I heard as a kid in the 80s and knew it was Mozart. Want to hear where? On our Apple IIc computer, it was built into a boot disk or something. Kind of funny, I think. I about died of delight when I heard the proper piano sonata years later. Great playing as usual, by Ms. Uchida.
What makes this stunning is that morons like me can appreciate it. I know less than nothing about classical music and I tear up with the haunting beauty of...well, all Mozart's stuff...but dang, this is sublime.
@SstarGirl95 This is the perfect tempo. I used to play it really fast but then I came upon this song. I like this version. Don't worry and practice it like this. :D
Other than Yuja Wang's version, this is another finest version of this sonata. I hate it when people play it faster than this speed like flight of the bumblebee.
@SstarGirl95 It means speed of your pieces doesn't matter. The quality of the pieces is the most important. No point playing it fast if the quality of your playing is bad.
When compared to Christoph Eschenbach's version, Uchida's is much richer...expresses feeling more warmly, Christoph's interpretation more captures the symmetry (the 'math') of this piece. hmm maybe I should be an art critic...
As always with Miss Uchida, a marvelous Mozart performance. One note, however: this sonata is often referred as the Sonata FACILE or Easy Sonata ('facile" being the italian word for simple or easy).
@VespasianMusic It is a deceptive label, as Mozart intended this sonata as a starting point for budding pianists. Check out Mozart's k 333 sonata in Aminor if you aren't well-versed already ;) Uchida does a lovely interpretation as always. It shows the technical development that Mozart is leading the student toward. However, I have played both sonatas for a while now. This particular sonata poses very difficult challenges. It is, however, less physically demanding over the course of the piece.
Dont think the pedal was invented when Mozart wrote it. I think she choses not to use it either, so you are probably right. Her technique is really amazing, and the tempo - not too fast - is also so well chosen.
This is, I believe, the same version I heard in the 80s and never forgot. This piece is easy to play, but hard to play anywhere near this well. Pristine and delicate - by far the best version I've ever heard.
@DBSwofford it's seen as sacrilege by so many people to say anything bad about richter or glen gould but quite frankly Uchida's interpretation of this song is just so much better. it's so pristine and delicate as you say--by far the best i've ever heard too!
i love in this way,be different ;) perfect!!!!!

Really excellent, extremely delicate and expressive. I wonder how Mozart played this on the harpsichord?

This is mesmerizing. This is how it should be played, delicate, and light. Mitsuko makes it into a beautiful story.

Nice!!
She has awsome technique, and now i see why she's considered to be good...
BTW, she doesn't use the pedal or it's just me...?

@WallDamus Actually Mozart knew the right pedal and he appreciated it. Anyway Mitsoko Ushida uses the right pedal, but very carefully.
