glad to hear the roaches were as clean as my apartment was XD I don't mind roaches as long as they are either in a cage or outside, my house not so much, glad to hear they are cleaner then I thought, though I heard they pee to mark paths (please correct me if I am wrong) and I never thought they were the ugliest bugs around, hell the only bug I hate/fear are bees, wasps and other black striped things that sting and even then all I do is freeze up and hope they fly away
Mr. Funnyshoes = adorable? We've got different standards. XD Roaches still skeeve me, even though my rational mind already knows a lot of what you've stated here, but when I find one in my house, I usually just catch it and take it outside. I don't like to kill them.
Perchance, have you ever seen "Twilight of the Cockroaches"? Even if you don't like anime, it's an interesting (and somewhat depressing) look at the subject of human/cockroach interaction, and paints roaches in a sympathetic light.
@16Nire61 I remember Twilight of the Cockroaches being one of three anime films, along with Vampire Hunter D, which Cartoon Network surprisingly played late one night a good ten years before "Adult Swim," and they weren't heavily edited, either!
@16Nire61 yeah, it was promoted for a week and then only happened that one time, never to be mentioned again...I guess they were testing the waters of adult programming and didn't see good ratings (or maybe they got some complaints)
@Scythemantis Twilight of the Cockroaches is a strange choice, if that was the aim. I mean, it's a good movie, but I can easily see it being a little too strange for the mainstream audience to get into. Then again, some of the stuff that ultimately wound up on Adult Swim was pretty odd, too. XD
Legitimately fascinating video. Even I still sometimes get squeamish about bugs, and yet this video somehow made them cute, crawling around in the background. Not entirely sure why. Maybe it's just your affection for them during the video, while seeing them in the background. :3
I think aversion to bugs is fairly natural. Not like a natural instinct, just understandable. They are small, quick, weird creatures. Insects, in general, look strange and occasionally fearsome. They bother people.
i have blaptica dubia, blaberus cranifer and gromphadorrhina portentosa, i used to have archimandrita tesselate but they didnt reproduce and shellfordella tartara but those all died after a mysterious infection.
@7xXColdFireXx12 yeah, some people think fear of insects is innate, but researchers find that it's largely only common in well developed countries...places where we grow up more separate from nature! Arachnophobia is almost unheard of in many cultures, even those who live with the very deadliest spiders!
@Scythemantis I know >_< I wish that I hadn't grow up on that phobia--bugs are amazing and beautiful, but at the same time I'm cursed with that ridiculous fear. Nonetheless, that cockroach at the end does look rather adorable :3
Also, I read your article on Solifugids. If you don't consider their painful bites, they are even more adorable!
@Joosterandom while there are some similarities I think they're considered very different groups. However, termites were once considered a unique group, and in recent years genetic analysis has proven termites to be cockroaches themselves. Not just related, but literally cockroaches! :D
@neoZykl roaches can be found on every continent, but as a matter of fact, the German Cockroach really originates from Africa! The "American" and "Oriental" roaches don't really come from those countries, either...they were just named that way for whatever reason.

Ive always found them to be fascinating. So docile in nature, not sure how people can fear something that cannot sting or bite.

I feel so informed. Aside from the awkward edits and such this was a damn fine video my friend.

Meh, I'm trying to get over that stupid unease of bugs--it's just that if I find them in the house, I unleash my undivided wrath on them :3
Modernization has done so much to weaken us Humans -_-; some of us are so afraid of bugs now....

Strange really, you almost never see cockroaches where I'm from, so I don't hear them badmouthed. Now if they were educated on earwigs..
Tyranitar635 3 months ago
@Tyranitar635 I'm pretty sure earwigs are related to them, actually. They've got very similar features at least.

Great video! Very insightful and informative. I used to be afraid of cockroaches, but they've grown on me over time (not literally).
Any chance of 'reviewing' house centipedes at some point?

@ScutigeraColeoptrata I would if I could find one, but I've only seen a couple in my entire life...the last one was at least five years ago :(
