I guess that sums up Pat. Weird but brilliant. His melodies are probably the best example. They are so complex, but so easy to listen to. They stay with you right away, you can humm them, but when you try reproducing them precisely you find yourself lost. I firmly believe that this alone puts Pat (and Lyle, as a tandem) up there with the greats, not only of jazz but of all music. And I do mean Bach, Mozart etc.
