I hear these lil buggers squeaking around my house all the time. I think that's a baby. Do you suppose this squeak is to call for mama or ward off predators? It doesn't ward me off. It's so cute sounding I wanna find the squeaker!

Mama's gona do the alarming to attract their attention Run get to as high as you could... Thats the female call. Males tend to bark, as in saying you are in their land/terrority so go away
Oddly enough, you're probably right, broccolitr. She had her paws together on her chest and was showing that she was wanting to play. Repeating the noise that long shows she's really desperate. Poor thing! They love to play.

I have one in my backyard and he chases the big gray squirrels away.He's like a mini bulldog.He is very funny to watch and feed penutbutter.steven
