A perfect example of a movie made earlier in his career was "Risky Business" which catapulted him to super-stardom and international fame of epic proportions. It was unquestionably the defining role of his career and movie most people first think of when they hear his name.

The original tangerine dream cut was so much better than the directors cut with a different score. I nearly cried when I saw the directors cut because it totally ruined the movie. But I can always watch tangerine dream :)

I love this movie. I've watched this movie with both music aspirations. Tangerine Dreams version is so much better. I can't believe that that Tom Cruise hates the fact that he was in this film. Although I wish RS would have came through with his original vision but with this score of course. Who knows maybe a remake is in order but to capture the same magic without this score would be a sheer impossibility.

The tangerine dream score really does exceed the score in the version I am assuming you watched. It flows with the theme of the movie and has a far better faerie, fantasy, vibe to it. Tangerine dream did an amazing job. Check it out if you can. Might miss out on the extra footage, but totally worth it.

Actually the tangerine dream version is not really hard to find at all. Just google the collectors edition. I'm sure its on amazon and it has both versions. While I do love the extra footage in the extended version, I do not care for the score. I have and will always associate this movie with Tangerine dreams score. It fits so much better.

I'm glad that Tangerine Dream's soundtrack seemingly was the mainstream version for this film. Solid scores and of course Jon Anderson was a "Legend" in this superb musical masterpiece coupled with the brilliance of Tangerine Dream. Listening to the music in and of itself allows me to see the film imaged in my mind. Just a mind-blowing soundtrack. The Dance and The Unicorn Theme are prestigious and make for mind touching odysseys. The 80's live on!!
