  • master bates LOL

  • absolutely wonderful review, I'm subbing. They have used amputees even as recently as "Saving Private Ryan" to show the graphic nature of the battlefield. good or otherwise, it's a cheap solution to a tough FX issue.

  • what a great review of a great film the true massacre was even worse than shown on the film ,im sure they did not use the real names of the people involved

why not history is history ,it is ironic that the person who led the charge had been a church minister in real life still a really great film 10/10

  • Master... bate? Geewiz, am i the only one who sees the coincidence?

Thumbs up if you do too

  • Wow I am so impressed i want to see this film in the worst way.The 70's were a epoch for film.Network, French Connection, Apocalypse now ,Vanishing Poin Johnny Got his gunt. All wonders of that time.edgy and unique visions are often disregareded and snubed by the Hollywood crap factory these days.I belive we in the a quasi 70's with all disenchantment, war, and unrest all these movies are still relavent. We even had a crap version of Nixon.

  • First of all its a brilliant movie. However its not a documentary and its not accurate for the most parts. The Indians had better weapons during this battle. The Indians had repeating rifles whilst the cavalry had single shot carbine's. And the historicity of this movie has been picked apart by archeological evidence. And im not taking sides here im not American. Im just saying when watching a Hollywood movie, be aware, whats a good plot isnt always what is true. Btw the song, solider blue wow.

  • masterbates - you have it totally wrong; dont seek to decieve by misinterpretation!

America has what, 200 years of 'history'. But this is the reality of USA history, when white folk colonised the land we know as USA. Not pleasant, or pretty, and nobody now need feel any guilt. But it is the reality of your history. Live with it, but dont try to hypothesise it out of memory by some poxy relationship with artistic movie making. Wake up and smell the coffee friend. Thanks

  • This is a much maligned movie and somewhat unfairly. It's well made and deals with an aspect of warfare which has been around along as man. Ethnic cleansing. Like Speilberg chose to show the horror of war and temper it with a humanitarian story in Saving Private Ryan so Soldier Blue tempers the horrors of Ethnic Cleansing with the humanity of a simple love story. The end massacre scene is horrific and disturbing while in no way being exhilarating. Not perfect, but a lot better than many say.

  • Oh, shaddup and put the movie on. Typical yank, all mouth.

  • you american fuckers....you were primitive warmongers then, you are now, and you will allways be....for the movie, it's brilliant

  • you fucking Bates...shut up and just watch the movie...you fucking Americans are all about analysing dust, fuckers

  • Mister Bates comment that a lot of people were offended as they saw it as anti american AND anti war. Shouldnt these people have been offended about war> im offended by war, and if that makes me anti war im a happier person because of it

  • Films like this are brilliant, especially so if based on fact - we ought to have a closer look at what people get up to when corrupted by war. some are bad, some arent, but the baduns sure get their jollies in some sick ways due to war. Still goes on today in its various forms and needs to be stopped. We just have the wrong leaders is all.

  • One of the best films with a message !

    Great !

  • they were not union soldiers. they were colorado volunteers(civilains) this movie had some truth but more propaganda for the anti american crowd then and now. both sides were just as cruel to each another.doesnt make it right but it has to be seen in historical context. neither side were boy scounts. Indians were defeated with the help of other indians. who do you think did the scouting for the army. its not just the white man who is to blame.

  • Candice is a really strong character here, as well as very good looking. She brought a lot of humour to the film. It was a great performance from her.

  • I haven't seen "Soldier Blue" so I can't speak for its historical accuracy, but it's a fact that the Sand Creek massacre, barbaric as it was, was not an official act of U.S. policy toward the Indians. It was carried out not by regular Union troops, but by members of the Colorado and New Mexico state militias under the command of the renegade Colonel John M. Chivington.

  • 5:12 -- I assume you mean child amputees, not paraplegics. Paraplegics are people who are paralyzed from the waist down. And using amputees for special effects wasn't unique -- Douglas Trumbull used legless performers inside the drone robots in "Silent Running," made around the same time.

  • It wasn't just a few massacres here and there - it was a prevailent and ongoing thing.

This is another holocaust over a long period of time that the US has to own up to and apologise for, just as Turkey does for its early 20th atrocities.

  • Nobody needs to apologize for things that happened before they were born. The perpetrators are long dead. The victims are long dead. What's the point of ghosts apologizing to ghosts?

  • It's not really about that kind of apology. It's more about not covering up the truth and revealing and talking about the past a lot more. It's just sickening that we only got a few films that showed things from the perspective of the minority group/underdog.

How was American History taught in the past?

There's still not enough films like this even today.

You say it is all in the past now, but that really isn't the case.

We need more of this stuff, but not necessarily as violent.

  • yours is a typical attitude toward atrocities such as this...while those involved are long dead, the repercussion of this are still being felt by those people who have had ancestors involved in this. Note the Holocaust of WWII...shifting blame is easy to do...but to extend an apology is impossible. Better sweep the whole thing under a rug and act like it never happened...all in the name of Manifest Destiny.

  • ". . .the repercussion of this are still being felt by those people who have had ancestors involved in this"? How, exactly?

"Note the Holocaust of WWII." I'm Jewish. I was born eight years after the end of World War II. The present-day government and people of Germany don't owe me squat.

  • @scotpens you're probably Cohen that remarried...and shamed your mother

  • (continued from previous post)

"Better sweep the whole thing under a rug and act like it never happened." Nobody's trying to sweep history under the rug. Since the perpetrators and victims of this and other such massacres are no longer with us, any apology is beyond our reach and a matter to be settled in the hereafter.

Guilt and responsibility begin and end with the individual. They aren't transmitted throught the DNA.

  • Some movie, I saw the TV version and your right the movie is 10x more graphic. Unbelievable how people can do these things , what fear and self loathing must have driven them to this. horrible truly horrible.

  • Good review my friend.

I saw it in all it's original glory and gore in 1970.

The images have not faded over the years.

I had to look away when you showed the clips, and I've seen men die in real life.

It is indeed a powerful film, largely due to the historical accuracy of it.

Man's inhumanity toward man never ceases to maze me.

The tragedy is it still continues today, with Gitmo and all the secret Black Ops missions that are never discussed or admitted.

  • I saw this movie 38 years ago and it made a signifiicant impact on me. I never forget it.

  • Fantastic!! Thank you for uploading this.

I saw this film last night and I was in awe.
